We attended the event as a guest of Lionsgate

In anticipation of the upcoming movie “The Wild Life,” our family boarded a train towards San Diego for an unforgettable night camping at the San Diego Zoo.

My kids love animals, and they have been anxiously waiting for The Wild Life to come in theaters. I didn’t tell them about the event and surprised them the morning of the event by having their sleeping bags and suitcases waiting for them by the front door. Our kids had just had their first train ride experience a couple of weeks ago, and when they found out that we were going on a train again, they were thrilled.

When we arrived in San Diego, there was a shuttle bus waiting to bring us to a theater to see The Wild Life. The kids were giggling on the bus with all their favorite blogger buddies while eating tasty sandwiches. It was just a few minutes before we were at the theater, and the kids had popcorn and sodas in the their hands while waiting for the movie to start. As the lights in the theater dimmed, all the kids cheered with delight that they were about to see the movie. The film immersed our family into a story that took us on an adventure in a jungle with some of our kid’s favorite animals and we were introduced to new adorable animals.

Then came time for our children to learn more about the animals in the film by camping overnight at the San Diego Zoo. Upon arriving at the Zoo, we checked in our bags and then went into a theater where some of the stars from the film made an unforgettable appearance. The kids got to see a real pangolin, parrot, turtle, and owl. In-between animal appearances, some of the kids were invited on the stage to participate in the educational aspects of the stage show.

Once the last animal made its appearance, the fun continued with an interactive bus tour around the Zoo. The kids got to see so many animals walking around their enclosures as we drove around the perimeter of the zoo. The bus stopped and let us out right in front of the zoo campsite where we would unpack our stuff and settle in before dinner. The kids were running around the campsite squealing with delight and anticipation of the added fun to come.

The zoo provided a beautiful buffet dinner complete with “The Wild Life” themed cupcakes and decorations themed after the movie. While we were enjoying our dinner, a singing bird joined in on the excitement by making a guest appearance.

The best was yet to come. Following dinner, everyone in the group split into smaller groups for interactive experiences. Our kids got to have a scavenger hunt in the dark around the zoo (so cool), eat bugs while making smores, participate in crafts, and then have a guided flashlight night hike to see many animals sleeping (and some awake).

Our kids drifted off to sleep in our tent with their hearts full of memories and an added love for animals. As the sun began to rise in the morning, our children packed up their bags and walked to have breakfast. During breakfast, there were more animal appearances, and we ended our morning with an interactive animal show.

It was a wild experience that our family will never forget. If your children love animals, then they are going to love seeing “The Wild Life” in theaters starting tomorrow. Learn more about The Wild Life online, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  1. We would like to camp at the overnight program at the S.D. Zoo. Is there any space for 2 people. One adutl and one child?
