A Wrinkle in Time will Inspire and Empower Girls

We attended a screening/interview as a guest of Disney

I am an Iranian-American. I was born in Iran and immigrated to America right around the Iran hostage crisis.  It was hard having a name like mine, look the way I did, feeling the way I did.  I was different and different was bad.

With few friends, I turned to books and movies to past the time.  From that my love of fantasy rose as did my hope that one day if I ever had children they would not go through what I did, that somehow a person who is different is as accepted as one who is considered the norm.

As an Iranian-American woman, I have sat back quietly watching as history-making events have unfolded before me.  From the Woman’s March to the Me Too movement, history is being made right now!  What does any of what I have written have to do with A Wrinkle in Time?  It has everything to do with it.

I mean talk about timing.  This film is exactly what the world needs right now.  It took 56 years to make this movie happen, and it is coming out at the most perfect time.  It’s as if the universe allowed time to bend and have this movie come out at the most impactful time, a time that will empower its viewers, its readers, its fans and pass on the word that you don’t have to be perfect, you aren’t alone, let your light shine.

Let your light shine was the ongoing sentiment that was being declared by the cast, director, and screenwriter.  What is light?  Light is the good within us that overtakes the darkness, the IT.

Darkness is seeping itself into the world causing chaos as flows from one entity to the next.  What we don’t realize about darkness is that there is light in darkness and that light can clear out darkness.

We have the strength to bring light into the world and Wrinkle in Time is the perfect vessel to remind us of that.  Director Ava DuVernay took the vision of author Madeleine L’Engle and created a world that you can only dream about.

Finding the perfect location was a bit of a challenge, but sure enough, she did, in New Zealand; soon after the universe made sure that everything fell into place.

The film’s cast is one that is not only star-studded but also deeply impactful.  From Ava to Oprah to Mindy to Reese, you have strong, vocal women who are here taking us all down a path of empowerment.

Women who have for decades risen up for causes to help women have a voice, a vision, power, options, dreams. The goal of this movie was to inspire us all to be who we truly are, to be proud of our uniqueness, our flaws, our light which it did.  Walking out of the film I could help to wonder what will happen next?  Will this movie impact the next generation as it did me?  Will this film have an impact on history and how we see ourselves?  Only time can tell, or maybe the universe will give us a hint.

A Wrinkle in Time opens in theaters March 9th.
