Aaron Axelrod’s Dark Matter LA Debut

Aaron Axelrod painting

We had the pleasure this past weekend of being a guest at the Barnsdall’s “Breaking Convention” Summer Soiree, an interactive evening of art, food & fundraising to kick off Aaron Axelrod’s multi-media exhibition, Dark Matter, it was on view at Barnsdall Park thru July 17th.

We have an extreme passion for the arts so being able to view this installation really was a treat and sang to our souls. Interactive art brings together a variety of mediums; art, music and this weekend even utilizing a historic landmark.

With generous support by Swarovski, Baxter and Bombet Hospitality Group, the progressive fundraiser – which turned the gala concept on its head – took place throughout the Park from Hollyhock’s West Lawn to Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) on July 15th. As part of the evening, guests enjoyed an exclusive preview of Axelrod’s one-of-a-kind presentation and multi-media exhibition, Dark Matter, before it opened to the public on Saturday, July 16th. Creating a provocative visual experience, Axelrod projection mapped the iconic Hollyhock House; marking the first time this historic landmark has been a part of a public art installation. Guests also previewed a spectacular Axelrod and Swarovski collaboration art piece housed at LAMAG, featuring almost 700,000 multi-color crystals.

As lovers of art we discovered a beautiful, mind blowing experience that tapped into several of our senses. The evening gave us a creative curiosity that made us think beyond the night.

The evening’s cuisine was curated by Terrine, Faith & Flower, Hanjip, and Viviane with executive chefs onsite including Kris Morningstar and Michael Hung. To complement, there was a curated cocktail menu by Cazadores and Bombay Sapphire under Bombet Hospitality Group. Entertainment highlights included DJ Clove and live musical performances by Treehouse, award-winning violinist James Thompson and world-renowned pianist Wayne Bethanis.

Keep your eye out, you may find us out at Barnsdall Park to experience another event or take in the beauty of the park and see the Hollyhock House from a different perspective. Culture is all around us, you just have to step outside and explore.
