Activities to do in Lake Tahoe

It’s super important for families to plan ahead of the holiday with their plans, activities and more, especially if you’re taking the kids away for a break from school. Lake Tahoe is the perfect location to spend your summer vacation, and there are so many activities to enjoy as a family, with a loved one or even on your own.

If it’s your first summer vacationing at Lake Tahoe or you visit your Lake Tahoe home regularly, boating on the crystal clear lake is an absolute dream. The mornings are calm and warm across the lake for an amazing introduction to your day, and the afternoons across the West Shore are undoubtedly one of the best experiences for any outdoor enthusiast, with the ability to take in the scenes of the natural beauty of Sugar Pine State Park.

Be cautious of boating laws and rules when on the lake, especially when operating a motorboat, and check ahead of your visit to see if any rules have changed.

General water activities such as water skiing and wakeboarding are also an excellent choice to enjoy the beautiful lake.

Bike Trails

Going out for a family bike ride is a great bonding experience, and Lake Tahoe boasts some of the most amazing bike paths and trails which can cater for both families with kids, and adult couples.

South Lake Tahoe hosts the Forest Bicycle Trail, which is 10 miles of paved pathing aligned next to the southern shore of Lake Tahoe. This is perfect for a family as there are so many opportunities to take advantage of the view whilst having a picnic, you could take a dip into the lake or grab an ice cream cone. Incline Village has a 2.5-mile paved bicycle path along the East Shore.

You may not necessarily be a summer person and may look forward to your winter breaks. Ski resorts do not come short in Lake Tahoe, and resorts with great scenery such as Palisades Tahoe (formerly known as Squaw Valley) are the perfect treat for yourself or your loved ones to go and take in the view whilst ripping down the silky snowy mountains. In total, across North Lake Tahoe, there are 16 ski resorts and 3 in South Lake Tahoe, all with their own characteristics to make them impeccable locations to ski.

The hiking opportunities in and around Lake Tahoe are amazing. Depending on where you’re staying, or where your home is, you could head to North Lake Tahoe and try out the Tahoe Rim Trail, or if you’re closer to the south, then the Mount Tallac trail doesn’t disappoint.

Whilst you’re enjoying your summer getaway or taking the family away for a winter vacation, it’s always useful to know that the opportunities to enjoy something in Lake Tahoe are endless.
