Live Painting, at Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival Delivers!

Posted by on Nov 13, 2022 in Nashville, Travel | 0 comments

Roy Laws is a conduit of creative energy, which is evident from the first brush stroke placed on the canvas. I’ve been fortunate to witness him paint live to various music genres, and the experience is remarkable! I recently caught up with Roy at this year’s Pilgrimage Music Festival in Franklin, Tennessee. I found him painting these two stunning works of art, a portrait of Chris Stapleton, who closed out this year’s weekend festival, and another of the timeless and unforgettable Johnny Cash. His artwork is bold, detailed, and vibrant. I urge you to take a closer look at Roy’s growing collection; you may find a new painting of an iconic musician or actor, a vintage guitar, or perhaps commission him to create a unique piece to add to your home or business. Better yet, have him come out...

This year I thought I’d share this swanky little appetizer with all of you. It only requires a few ingredients; it’s simple, looks great and it will make you very happy. You may want to get extra ingredients since you’ll likely need to make this dish again. Warmed Brie with Strawberries, Candied Pecans + Honey 8 oz wheel of Brie 1/2 lb of sliced Strawberries Balsamic Vinegar Candied Pecans Honey Trader Joes Fig + Rosemary Crisps Parchment Paper Preheat oven to 350, place rack in the center. Savory Plates of Goodness at Ironwood Cellar

Posted by on Oct 20, 2020 in Dining, Family | 0 comments

Dining Partner I never hesitate when I’m asked what my favorite dish is at Ironwood Cellar, Pillows of Heaven! It’s much easier to find it on the menu as Sweet Corn + Roasted Garlic Agnolotti but after the burst of flavor-filled bite, I’m certain you will feel the same. Pillows of Heaven for the win! The warm Agnolotti pasta is drizzled with the most delicious mixture of Preserved Lemon, Sonoma Goat Cheese, Basil, and Pistachio Brown Butter. As I write this I’m thinking of my next visit. Ironwood Cellar is known for a delightful menu created by Chef Robert Barth; his dishes are often fueled by what is available from local purveyors. I love when a restaurant creates dishes based on those ingredients and then allows the creative energy to flow; at Ironwood Cellars it shows! Thirsty? Ask for...

Tastes of Summer at Casa Barilla

We dined as a guest of the venue Summertime is here, and it’s the time of year to live a little more carefree, being out and about in the sunshine and letting someone else do the cooking as you gather around the table. Casa Barilla at South Coast Plaza delighted us with a recent visit to enjoy “A Taste of Summer.” It is happening right now through July 8th with two flavorful dishes, an Insalata Bietole and a Spaghetti Dell’Orto. Both pairs perfectly together and lean on the lighter side with an emphasis on summer vegetables. Since we are big fans of all things from the garden, we enjoyed the flavor and the vibrant colors that scream beautiful and healthy. The Insalata Bietole is a refreshing, sweet, savory salad of Mixed Greens, Arugula, Green Apples, Roasted Beets, Candied Walnuts...

We dined as a guest of the venue Every so often, my heart skips a beat for a delicious, savory Italian meal. I’d been recently dreaming about a great pasta dish accompanied by a glass of vino. Imagine my delight when I was invited to dine as a guest of Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana. A chance to discover their new Spring Menu with a unique and fresh take on some familiar but also new, creative dishes. I began with the dish Burrata di Primavera; a lovely marriage of Burrata, English Peas, Fava Beans, Mint + Lemon. It’s one of my favorites now with a burst of flavor and reminds you of Spring. The idea of Burrata with anything makes me happy. This next dish, an Antipasto of Charred Octopus, Braised Chickpeas, Tomatoes, and Marjoram is imaginative, smokey and delicious. Chef...

We visited as a guest of the venue A little rain didn’t stop this writer from attending the OC Wine Fest at “A Stones Throw” in San Juan Capistrano. In fact, we seemed to be in great company with fellow wine enthusiasts! Wineries from as far north as Napa and south to Escondido gathered to share their bottled treasures. Enticing us with beautiful notes of fruit; from the crispness of a Sauvignon Blanc to a full body flavor of a Cabernet Sauvignon. We enjoyed learning in depth about the winemakers and their individual stories. We found it often begins with a passion for creating a wine for themselves and soon discover they have a delicious wine to share with others; and so a winery is born. We love when that happens and by the winemakers enthusiasm, they do too....

We tried out the bar since we wanted the chance to interact with Andy the bartender. The bartender can often be key to a great place; Andy is friendly, cheerful and somehow knew the perfect drink for each of us. The Red Room, which opened last weekend and has a specialty menu featuring four new cocktails. We were given...

We visited as a guest of the venue Who likes going to the spa? We do! Last week we had the luxury of celebrating with Pacific Waters Spa at the Hyatt in Huntington Beach, CA It’s a lovely annual treat that Pacific Waters Spa hosts as a thank you to their loyal patrons. It’s a festive, social evening throughout the spa; allowing you time to meander through a variety of spaces while discovering pampering opportunities. Women casually sipping wine, laughing and talking while learning about featured facial products and fun takeaway items to sample at home. My favorite was the spa’s mini samplings of their daily services; giving us the opportunity to try a mini massage and/or facial. We signed up for the mini HydraFacial; a non-invasive resurfacing of the skin with no downtime. It’s true! No downtime; no...
