Orange County schools are good, but why aren’t they great?

Posted by on May 19, 2014 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Parents need to know they have education options beyond their neighborhood school. With choices in education there is much more potential for a child to have his needs met. Choices in education provide competition for local school districts to improve their schools. As consumers we have choices in everything, from where we buy groceries to where we dry clean our clothes. Why is education the last standing monopoly? It doesn’t have to be this way. As parents it is our responsibility to inform ourselves of choices in education: public, private, charters, magnet and homeschool. We parents must ensure these choices are available for our children. Come find out why Orange County has the fewest education options offered to parents compared to any of the surrounding counties. Meet the candidates running for office who make the final decisions that directly...

Vergara vs. California: How This Case Will Affect Education

Posted by on Mar 24, 2014 in Education, Family, Parenting | 0 comments

Currently, the State of California is faced with a lawsuit brought on by nine very brave students throughout California who feel their education has been negatively impacted by long-standing education policies that force school districts to lay off teachers based on tenure (how long a teacher has been teaching) instead of the quality of the teacher. With the help of an organization called Students Matter the plaintiffs/students are challenging the current tenure law known as Last In; First Out (LIFO), permanent employment statute (tenure after only 18 months), and dismissal statues that require many years of documentation. These students believe having a great teacher, regardless of how long a teacher has been teaching, should be the most important factor in retaining an educator. Everyone is watching this case closely as it will set a new teacher employment precedent in...

2014 National School Choice Week

Posted by on Jan 27, 2014 in Education, Family, Featured | 4 comments

This week is National School Choice Week. It is a time to celebrate all the different choices parents in America can make for their child’s education. There are so many options to educate students such as traditional school, homeschool, magnet school, charter, language immersion, virtual school, and private school. The best thing about National School Choice Week (NSCW) is that every choice is recognized and celebrated. This week-long event also raises awareness of the crisis in education in America where students in every zip code are failing. Options in education are clearly needed when American high school students are compared globally in the Program for International Student Assessment world-wide test scores of 15 year olds and America remained stagnant once again with the following scores: 17th in Reading; 26th in Math; and 21st in Science. Awareness is being raised...

Coffee Comfort with Krups

Posted by on Dec 19, 2013 in Family, Tech | 1 comment

Nothing says “comfort and joy” during the holiday season better than a warm cup of coffee. I had the chance to practice my latte skills with the Krups Pump Espresso XP5600 machine. It has been a while since I made my own latte. In fact, it has been since my college days working as a Barista. I was not sure what to expect with a home machine, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is actually very user friendly. The directions are very clear with pictures and instructions, so you don’t have to be a Barista to use it. One of the best features to this machine is the Krups Tamping System. Using the provided premeasured coffee spoon you add your coffee choice, and gently moving the handle to the right automatically tamps the coffee grounds. So simple! The Krups...

It’s officially the holiday season! There is no better way to celebrate the start of the holiday season than the 13th Annual Sand Sculpture Dedication and Tree Lighting Ceremony at the St. Regis Monarch Beach. This event has become an amazing family tradition each year in Orange County. It is open to the public and over 2,000 guests are greeted to complimentary valet parking, the most decadent hot chocolate, fabulous holiday entertainment, and incredible holiday cookies that made Santa proud. Of course such an event would not be complete without the opportunity for families to take a picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The holiday entertainment included roving Christmas carolers and the always-talented Dana Hills High School Band. The evening was a family holiday tradition mixed with an elegant and awe-inspiring setting that spread holiday cheer as you made...

Delivery Man Delivers Positive Message About The Importance of Fathers

Posted by on Nov 22, 2013 in Disney, Featured, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored I heart Vince Vaughn, so I could not wait for the chance to screen his new film, “Delivery Man.” Mr. Vaughn is known for his comedic way of seeming like a regular guy with all the seamless and hilarious comebacks. I was expecting more of the same perfect comedy I always enjoy with his movies. I experienced that and much more. “Delivery Man” is a movie that also delivered an often overlooked and important message of how important a father is. Vince’s character started out as what appeared to be a misguided, single guy, and ended as a person who wholeheartedly accepted his new role as an accidental father to 533 children. He secretly got to know some of his children and not only tried to help them lead a better life, but accepted each one for who...
