Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano

We dined as a guest of the venue

Everyone loves good barbecue, but it can be hard to find around Orange County. I had heard a lot of buzz about Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano, so I decided to bring the family to give it a try over the weekend.

The restaurant is hidden from the main road and is tucked in the corner of a small strip mall, but don’t let that fool you. We parked our car in front of the restaurant and got ready to embark on a delicious dinner at Bad to the Bone BBQ.

There is a small patio in the front (with plenty of shade), a large indoor bar and family dining room. Guests can place their order at the front desk, take a number, and then the server will bring the food to the table when it is ready.

We got some drinks and then found a seat to look over the menu. There are so many delicious choices on the menu, and the server recommended that we start with the potato skins and crispy onions. The potato skins were delicious and came topped with butter, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and brisket. The kids loved the fried onions and paired them with barbecue ranch dressing.

While we were waiting for our main course, our family enjoyed some freshly baked corn bread and butter. Freshly baked corn bread with barbecue is the best!

For the main course, my husband ordered the smoked prime rib that is only available on the weekends (and until they sell out). This dish was the best prime rib that I have ever tasted, and I highly recommend coming on the weekends to give it a try. The one pound prime rib is aged for 28 days, heavily marbled, hickory roasted, and finished on their mesquite grill. The dish is large enough for two people to share, so we brought the leftovers home, and it was just as good reheated the next day.

While I was jealous at first of my husband’s dinner, mine didn’t disappoint. I ordered a little more simple the evening we dined and tried their chicken and ribs. Both were tender, juicy, and some of the best barbecue I’ve enjoyed.

Finally, my daughter fell in love with sliced brisket meal. Her dish featured 1/2 pound of sliced USDA prime brisket that is hickory smoked for 14-16 hours. The meat is topped with their sweet barbecue sauce and is paired perfectly with a side of mashed potatoes.

Our family fell in love with the food and the service at Bad to the Bone BBQ. The portions are large, and the prices are affordable for families. When looking for a new place to have a delicious barbecue dinner in Orange County, bring the family to Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano.
