Bringing the Genie in Aladdin to life with Eric Goldberg

We attended a media event as a guest of Disney

It wasn’t just the talents of Robin Williams that brought the Genie in “Aladdin” to life, but also the creative mind behind the Walt Disney Animator, Eric Goldberg. Goldberg is well-known for the creation of many of our children’s beloved animated Disney characters including the Genie. While spending a couple of days in Los Angeles learning about the making of the film “Aladdin,” we were given the once-in-a-lifetime experience of having a drawing lesson with Eric Goldberg.

Our time with Goldberg started with him sharing some special memories of his time working with Robin Williams on the film. Grab a tissue, and enjoy watching this video on Eric Goldberg talking about working with Robin Williams.

Once everyone in the audience finished wiping our tears away, it was time to bring the Genie back to life during a special drawing demonstration. For the first time, Goldberg shared with everyone in our group step-by-step instructions on how to drawn the Genie in Aladdin. While drawing the Genie, he talked about his inspiration from Al Hirschfeld and took his time to go slow so that everyone attending the drawing workshop could successfully create their own version of the Genie.

Goldberg worked on the bonus feature in the blu-ray of Aladdin where they listened to audio recordings of Robin Williams and created an animated short “Genie’s Outtakes.” Don’t miss adding “Aladdin” to your home movie collection starting on October 13th.
