Bull Rider Rodeo
What? Did you say that the Professional Bull Rider Rodeo was held on the beach a couple of weeks ago? You heard that right! Huntington Beach hosted their first rodeo on the sand, transforming an adjacent parking lot into a dirt arena, putting in spectator seating and bringing in the bulls and their riders to compete. Kids in their flip flops and cowboy hats peeked through the arena; on one side you could the crashing waves while on the other you have the sights and sounds of a bull riding ring. A first for the local area and tons of fun!
Family’s came out to witness the professional bull riders trying hard to hang on for 8 seconds each round, doesn’t sound too long but you try hanging on to the back of a bucking bull that long. It takes tremendous skill, determination and strength. An interesting tidbit is that a majority of the riders come from a long lineage of riders within their family.
It was the last event before the finals the following weekend in Las Vegas. Bushwacker, a famous bucking bull was brought out to the arena amongst the cheering crowd; the next weekend he was set to retire.
We’ll all have to wait until the next round of Professional Bull Riders starts up again but keep your eye out for it next year when it starts back up again in March 2015. I hope they bring it back to the sand because being outside watching this event made it even better!
