Captain Marvel: A Movie About Friendship

I attended an interview with the cast of Captain Marvel as a guest of Disney

I had no idea what to expect when going to see Captain Marvel for the first time. The minute that the movie started, I was immersed in the film. I knew that I was going to love seeing a movie that has a woman as the lead role, but what ended up being my favorite thing about the movie is the messaging.

Captain Marvel Belt

The most important message that I took away from the film was the importance of friendship. I put on my favorite Buckle Down Captain Marvel belt, and went to Los Angeles to meet with the cast, and to hear their thoughts on making the film.

Brie Larson in Captain Marvel

Brie Larson who plays the role of Captain Marvel talked a lot about the bond that her character had with her friend in the film. She said, “I think what they’ve gone through together, going through military training together, and being the only women. They used each other to lean, and it is really special. They’re family.”

The friendship in Captain Marvel

She continued to say that their friendship in the film is the love of the movie. “This is the great love. This is the love lost. This is the love found again. This is the reason to continue fighting and to go to the ends of the earth for the person, the one that you love,” said Larson.

Interviewing the cast of Captain Marvel

Along with friendship, another beautiful part of the film is how they show appreciation for single mothers. Lashana Lynch who plays the role of Maria Rambeau, who is the best friend of Captain Marvel is a single mother in the film. When talking with her about it, she shared with us that how much credit they gave to single mothers in the film was her favorite takeaway.

“Mine was my forever appreciate for single mothers, who don’t get enough light shine on them. To be able to have that opportunity to represent them, and say that universal ‘thank you’ for your work, was really special. I went to my mum and other mums I know afterward, just to say thanks for everything that you’ve done. It really goes a long way to say thank you daily. Because then they’re able to feedback to other mothers and say that we’re actually doing an all right job. We’re actually enough,” Lashana Lynch.

Lynch continued to say, “I feel like I’m not only representing women, I’m representing black women. I’m representing single mothers and representing all women in the, in the military, and that’s pretty damn special.”

Celebrating friendship Captain Marvel

After talking with the cast, I celebrated some of my favorite friendships by having lunch together. It was a beautiful day in Los Angeles that I’ll never forget.

Captain Marvel is my favorite Marvel movie of all-time, and I know that your family is going to fall in love with the film too. Don’t miss seeing it in theaters this Friday! Learn more about Captain Marvel online, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
