Entertainment Bringing Families Together

Posted by on Oct 15, 2018 in Entertainment | 0 comments

Sponsored We all live such busy lives, and as my kids have grown into teenagers, it has been harder than ever to find times that we can all come together as a family. There is one thing that my family all has in common, and that is a love for entertainment. Unfortunately, the cost of cable television is something that is beyond the financial reach of many families, not allowing them to enjoy great entertainment together as a family. Since I travel a lot, and we are rarely home, I recently disconnected our home cable service. I have been researching different options to be still able to provide entertainment in our household and recently discovered at Best Buy the Google Chromecast Streaming Media Player. With the new device, our family can watch movies, shows, live TV, YouTube (my kids...

Why Parents Need to Take Their Teens to See Beautiful: The Carole King Musical

Posted by on Oct 11, 2018 in Entertainment, Theatre | 0 comments

We attended the event as a guest of the venue Before going to see the musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. There were two things on my mind. #1 Who the heck is Carole King and #2 Why have I never heard of her before? I didn’t really want to research because I wanted to have that element of surprise added to the show. Let me tell you…The element of surprise did not disappoint. When the curtain opened, I could almost immediately tell that the show was based in the 1940’s – 60’s because of the outfits that were shown in the first few acts. Another thing I noticed was that I was the one of the only people under the age of 65 in the audience. I thought to myself, “this can’t be right, it’s the Segerstrom!” As...

Eighth Grade Teen Movie Night

Posted by on Oct 11, 2018 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored Eighth grade, I’m not going to lie, was a pretty stressful year. Thinking about high school and trying to get good grades and go through your last year of middle school. Now that I am in ninth grade I am looking back and telling myself I stressed myself out way too much. With the new film, Eighth Grade, I find myself looking back and realizing that I can relate to so many of the feelings that were shown in the film. When I watched the movie, the first thing I thought was, ” Oh my Gosh, this is so relatable.” Everything from the trends to the clothing worn was everything that was happening in real life at the time. Some of the trends are even still happening to this day. Even my brothers who are in 11th and...

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation Movie Night

Sponsored Halloween is right around the corner and what better way to start it off than with a Hotel Transylvania movie night! I have watched all the movies for Hotel Transylvania plus the episodes in the series, so I couldn’t wait to watch this film with my family. Before watching it though we had to create the mood by having a spooky movie night. My brothers and I started it off by putting on some Hotel Transylvania costumes and popped some popcorn. We had so much fun as we were eating popcorn and sharing our favorite characters in the movies. We went over a little recap of the first two films, so we had a small brain refresher. We also watched the trailer for the Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. After we watched the trailer we had so much...

Big Adventures! The Series Film. My younger brother has been watching Thomas the Tank Engine ever since he was a little boy about six years old, so I decided to surprise him with a special movie night for the DVD release of this new Thomas the Tank Engine Film. I set up the movie night and popped some popcorn as we played with our favorite Thomas the Tank Engine merchandise. We were having so much fun laughing and sharing our favorite Thomas the Tank Engine clips from previous shows and episodes. We finally powered on the movie,...

I attended the interview as a guest of Disney The one thing that I loved about the upcoming film ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ is that the story takes off right where we left off in ‘Wreck-it-Ralph.’ Last month, I went to the Walt Disney Animation Studios to learn all about the making of the film ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet,’ and one thing I was fascinated with was everything that went into creating this animation masterpiece. While talking with the creators of the film, they shared these amazing numbers with us… When it came to writing the story for ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ I these are the numbers that went into bringing it to life: 15 story artists 10 screenings of the film 45 total sequences in the film 153 total sequences boarded 7883 total sequence versions 283,839 total storyboards...

Mary Lynn Rajskub on Balancing Motherhood and Work

Sponsored Mary Lynn Rajskub plays the role of Theresa who is a mom who decided to go to night school to get her GED. She is a mom who got married young, didn’t finish school, and wants to go back-to-school to finish what she didn’t finish. Her life kinda stinks, and after complaining about her life, she tries to cheer herself up by reminding herself that “she is blessed.” After seeing the film (which is hilarious), I had the honor of talking with Mary Lynn Rajskub about the making of the film, motherhood and second chances. She started by sharing with me how she has a “double life.” She goes out at night to do standup comedy, which can get a little raunchy, and then she gets up in the morning to take her son to school.  We attended a preview as a guest of the studio Comedies are my favorite types of movies mainly because I am laughing throughout the film. Watching Night School with Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. There was not one moment in that theater where I wasn’t laughing at hilarious jokes. Especially with Kevin Hart being the one saying them. From the crazy jokes that only some people would understand to the funny scenes where something incredibly unexpecting happens. It is finally fall and sweater weather and who doesn’t love going to the theater in sweaters and jeans. From the minute I sat down with my drink and popcorn in the Irvine Spectrum Theater I knew I was going to love the movie. Within the first couple of lines, I could not stop laughing at all of the practical school jokes....

I attended the interview as a guest of Disney One of my favorite things about Ralph Breaks the Internet are the way the people look in the film. Last month, I had the honor of talking with the character building team Cory Loftis (production designer), Dave Komorowski (head of characters and technical animation), Renato dos Anjos (head of animation) and Moe El-Ali (crowds supervisor) about the process of creating the inhabitants of the internet: “Netizens” and “Net Users. They knew early on from looking at the artwork the team was working on which showed the way the environment would look – that they were looking at a 3-dimensional space which posed a few challenges for the team. Not only do they have to populate one street but also the other streets that you can see either up above or...

When we were done with playing the game, we would go inside and watch the movie. We first started setting up by taking the Han Solo Monopoly game board and set it up outside on a blanket. We then threw some comfy Chewbacca blankets and pillows to make the space even more comfortable. We then waited for the sun to set and began our family game night. My little brother...

We attended the interview as a guest of Disney The upcoming film, Ralph Breaks the Internet, starts just where the story left off in Wreck it Ralph. The big difference between this film vs. the first is that most of the film takes place “in” the internet. Now, the internet is not an actual “place” that the creators of the film could visit to recreate for the film, and they had to use their imagination to create the magical world of the internet in Ralph Breaks the Internet. Earlier this month, I had the honor of talking with Matthias Lechner (art director, environments), Larry Wu(head of environments) and Ernie Petti (technical supervisor) about how they created the complex metropolis – the internet. Ukulele is one of the most fun instruments to play in my opinion and what better time to learn then the beginning of a new school year. But you can’t buy just any ukulele. Many of the online companies that you purchase instruments from make it really hard to know what actually holding and playing the instrument is like. Fender ukuleles make it extremely easy to pick your favorite ukulele and even watch a demo video with the ukulele on their website. And you don’t have to stop at ukulele’s; Fender also sells acoustic guitars,...

All the way through the movie I couldn’t stop watching as it switched back and forth between scenes that took place before they set sail and afterward. The film showed how they fell in love and how they got unlucky. Tami Oldham is played by one of my favorite actresses, Shailene Woodley, and Richard Sharp is played by the very talented Sam Clafin. Both of these actors played the parts they were given spot on. Especially with the scenes during the actual hurricane. I watched as they tumbled about the ship and got spit out the other end of the hurricane....

It has been nine years since I last visited my family in London.  We are a close-knit bunch and spend every day together.  The last time we were there my children were 1 and 4 which meant that every day was spent in a park.   My aunt Barbara told us about this enchanting park that she felt the children would love so we headed out to Aldenham Country Park in Hertfordshire to visit the 100 Aker Wood.  Now if that sounds a bit familiar it may be due to a little song that starts off like this: Deep in the hundred acre wood Where Christopher Robin plays, you will find the enchanted neighborhood of Christopher’s childhood days A donkey named Eeyore is his friend. And Kanga and little Roo. There’s Rabbit. and Piglet And there’s Owl But most...

‘Teen Titans Go! To The Movies’ Teen Review

Posted by on Jul 25, 2018 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored Ever since the first episode of Teen Titans Go was aired back in 2013, I have been hooked with my brothers. Every morning when we wake up a little bit early for school, my brother will turn the show on, and we will sit and watch it. I guess you could say that I am a Teen Titans Go fan. My brothers and I first heard of the movie when a trailer was played on Cartoon Network. We immediately knew that we wanted to see it. My mom told all of us that we got an early screening and we were all super excited. Not only did we get to see the new film at the Warner Brothers Studios, but we also got to attend a party afterward and take pictures with some of the voice actors. I...

We visited as a guest of the venue There is something that Orange County has been missing for many years, and that is a nice and clean piano bar. Couples love to go out to watch live music, and we were thrilled to learn that a new piano bar recently opened at The Triangle in Costa Mesa. Once learning about the new piano bar opening, we planned a night out to check out the new date night hot spot. The piano bar is located right on the corner of Th Triangle in Costa Mesa. They checked our ID at the door, and we entered the snazzy location. There is the main bar along one wall, multiple tables in the center of the piano bar and reserved group seating along the other wall. Since we were visiting with other couples,...

Mickey Mouse’s new birthday portrait was revealed recently at San Diego Comic-Con. Titled “Spreading Happiness Around the World,” the painting by legendary Walt Disney Animation Studios animator Mark Henn honors Mickey’s 90th anniversary. The unveiling of the new work—the latest in a longstanding series of Mickey birthday portraits—took place during the panel “Celebrating 90 Years of Mickey Mouse with D23: The Official Disney Fan Club.” Since his big-screen debut in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928, Mickey has been the global ambassador for The Walt Disney Company. From the beloved Mickey Mouse Club to today’s Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, Mickey’s optimistic outlook and endearing personality continue to delight fans around the world every day. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies Voice Recording

Posted by on Jul 23, 2018 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored Teen Titans Go is one of my teenager’s favorite television shows. When he found out that they were making a feature film, he couldn’t wait to see it. You can imagine his surprise when he found out that he would be attending an advance screening of the film, and got the unique opportunity to voice over for one of his favorite characters, Beast Boy. We arrived at the Warner Brothers Studio lot, and there was a red carpet that led into the theater. Press lined the carpet taking pictures of all the guests arriving at the premiere. My kids were overwhelmed with excitement as we entered the theater where we would take our seats to be one of the first to see the feature film, “Teen Titans Go! To The Movies.” The movie was hilarious, and my children...

Ant-Man and The Wasp Teen Review

I attended a screening as a guest of Disney When the first Ant-Man movie came out, my brothers and I were so excited for a new Marvel character that we already knew we were going to love it. I watched it for the first time and immediately fell in love with the ant-sized superhero. When I started seeing the previews for Ant-Man and The Wasp I was so excited to see where the old movie left off. There are three reasons why I enjoyed this sequel so much. Number 1: The movie is so close to reality that it was so easy to understand and fun to watch. Most other superhero movies take place in a completely different setting than the modern world, so it’s effortless to connect with the things that are happening in the film. A majority...

Talking with the Cast of Ant-Man and The Wasp

We attended the event as a guest of Disney Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fantastic sequel to the first Ant-Man movie and a must-see for all parents and children. I recently had the privilege of going to Pasadena and speaking with the cast of the new film, and I can assure you they had a lot of fun things to say. One of my favorite features of the movie was all the comedy and how much I laughed during the film. Even during the serious parts someone almost always said something to lighten the mood. The cast made me laugh once more when Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp) said about Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) who helped write the script, “His best lines in the movie are not on the script.” Knowing that not all of the comedic lines weren’t scripted...

I attended the interview as a guest of Disney The Incredibles is one of my kids all-time favorite animated feature films. When my teenagers (who were toddlers when the original film was released) found out that they were making The Incredibles 2, they couldn’t wait until the day it would be released into theaters. I had the honor of taking them to an early screening of the film, and they loved it even more than the first film. The next day, I got to sit down with the cast and talk about the making of the film. All of the characters in The Incredibles 2 have such distinguished voices. Hearing the voices of my favorite characters come out of someone other than “The Incredibles” threw me off a bit. I have interviewed celebrities who have done voice over work...

We attended the interview as a guest of Disney One of my favorite movies of the year has been “A Wrinkle in Time.” I loved the lighting, the acting, and the message behind the story. While in Los Angeles last month, I had an opportunity to sit down and talk with one of the stars of the film, Deric McCabe. If you aren’t familiar with McCabe, he is a hilarious young boy who plays the role of Charles Wallace Murry in the movie. The minute that I entered the room, McCabe offered to show us some of his talents and did a couple of cartwheels around the room. The young actor is vivacious, full of energy, and he made every minute of the interview so much fun. Once he took his seat and we got started talking about the...

While in Los Angeles earlier this month, I had the honor of meeting Harrelson and getting to talk about what it was like working on the film, and how he lives a healthy lifestyle. Harrelson got involved in the film by being in London while shooting a movie that he wrote and directed, “Lost in London.” He was going to head home, but Phil and Chris wanted to meet with him, so he made arrangements to talk. He was worried that his family would be tired of saying that he was ‘done’ after his last film, but he met with them anyway, and like with Hunger Games, he declined initially – but as we all...

But, there is a human behind all that fur and kindness, and in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it is Joonas Suotamo. Every little boy dreams of being Chewbacca, my boys especially, so when I told them I was going to meet the man, the myth, the legend, behind Chewbacca in Solo: A Star Wars Story….they almost fainted. The one thing that stood out to me about Joonas Suotamo is that he is not your traditional actor. I had the honor of getting to spend some time with Ron Howard talking about the making of the film while in Los Angeles last week. For being such a talented director, the one thing that makes Ron Howard so unique is how down to earth and relatable he is. Like with any Star Wars film, there was a lot of responsibility on everyone who worked on the film, especially Ron Howard. Girls Night In with Forever My Girl

Posted by on Apr 16, 2018 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored The one film genre that I can’t seem to get enough of is romance films. My favorite thing to do on a quiet evening is to relax in our living room with my daughter watching a movie. This past weekend, we got some of our favorite foods and sat down together to watch Forever My Girl. The movie is based on the first book of the New York Times and USA Today best-selling series ‘The Beaumont,’ by Heidi McLaughlin. The story is about a country music superstar (Liam) who leaves his bride at the altar, choosing fame and fortune instead of her. The only problem is that Liam never quite got over his first love, and when he unexpectedly returns to his hometown, he finds himself torn between his two worlds. The heartfelt movie is one that you’ll...

Cinderella Ballet at the Irvine Barclay Theatre

Posted by on Apr 11, 2018 in Ballet, Entertainment | 0 comments

We attended as a guest of the venue Cinderella is a classic fairy tale, and it also happens to be one of my favorite fairy tales ever. I have seen Cinderella in many different forms of production including musical theater, ballet, hip-hop, movies, etc. But, I think ballet is one of my favorite forms to watch this story told is through ballet. I have seen many ballets of Cinderella before, and they were all amazing, but seeing it performed by the Maple Conservatory of Dance at the Irvine Barclay Theatre & Cheng Hall has one has to be one of my favorites. I already knew I was going to like it when I started reading the program and saw a few familiar names. As soon as the first act started, I was immersed in an entirely different version of...

It has become a tradition for my mom and me to pick out dresses together and spend the day getting dressed up, so when my mom told me that we were invited to the Pandas IMAX movie premiere, I was so excited. When she advised me that this premiere was for a new movie all about the lives of pandas in the wild, I was over the moon with excitement. I’m not sure if anyone knows this about me, but cute, cuddly pandas are one of my favorite animals. So when I found that we were going to the premiere of a Pandas IMAX movie I was beyond happy.  We visited as a guest of the venue One of my favorite things to do in Orange County is to see a show at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The Segerstrom Center for the Arts has made musicals one of my new favorite obsessions. When I started out the season this year with Something Rotten, I didn’t think any show could beat that. Well, I was very wrong. The Book of Mormon was one of the funniest theatre productions I have ever seen in my entire life. Not only was I laughing the entire time, but I also found myself getting emotional during the sad parts. There was a perfect balance of emotion, and I think I laughed more than one hundred times during the performance. The characters made everything come together so perfectly and this for sure...

We attended a screening/interview as a guest of Disney I am an Iranian-American. I was born in Iran and immigrated to America right around the Iran hostage crisis.  It was hard having a name like mine, look the way I did, feeling the way I did.  I was different and different was bad.  With few friends, I turned to books and movies to past the time.  From that my love of fantasy rose as did my hope that one day if I ever had children they would not go through what I did, that somehow a person who is different is as accepted as one who is considered the norm.  As an Iranian-American woman, I have sat back quietly watching as history-making events have unfolded before me.  From the Woman’s March to the Me Too movement, history is being made...
