Diana Kennedy: Nothing Fancy

Disney Pixar’s Onward: A Brotherly Bond

We attended as a guest of Disney I think I’m a pretty good mother, I must say. But taking my teen daughters to the press event for Disney Pixar’s Onward certainly ensured my place in the Mom Hall of Fame. Yes, my 19-year-old has a poster of Tom Holland on her dorm room wall at college while my 17-year-old loves Guardians of the Galaxy, so taking them to hear Onward voice stars Chris Pratt and Tom Holland (both of Avengers fame) was a complete dream come true. What I didn’t expect was how much this animated film would resonate with all three of us, and especially my daughters, as close sisters. Onward is entertaining to be sure. It’s a great story about two brothers off on a journey to spend a day with their dad, who passed away when...

No Spoilers! Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Cast Talks Community and Closure

Posted by on Dec 19, 2019 in Disney, Entertainment, Featured, Film | 0 comments

I attended the press junket for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker two weeks ago. It was an incredible hour of Q & A with the producer, writer, writer/director, and entire cast. No advance movie screening was held, as is usually the norm for the press in advance of a movie opening. Why? Because this is not any ordinary movie. Star Wars is a community of fans from all ages and walks of life that treasure and protect the cannon of the Star Wars universe as a sacred religion. I am among them. The event was so monumental that it had taken me this long to fully process and try to put into words what I gleaned from the experience as I prepare to see this film. Given that the plot details are under wraps, it allowed producer and...

We attended a screening as a guest of Disney It’s so rare to find a movie not only appropriate for all ages but genuinely entertaining for everyone. It’s also rare that a sequel lives up to the entertainment satisfaction of the original. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil succeeds on both counts. The always intriguing Angelina Jolie returns as Maleficent, who at the end of the original found redemption and love with her new “daughter” Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning, back as well). But all is not harmonious five years later as the fairy folk of the Moors, and the humans exist in a tenuous state fueled by rumor and speculation. Is Maleficent simply misunderstood, or is she truly evil? That question is put to the test when Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson) proposes to Princess Aurora, and a “meet the parents” dinner...

Talking with the Cast of Downton Abbey

Posted by on Sep 30, 2019 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

We attended the interview as a guest of the studio Have you ever had a reoccurring dream about meeting someone you admire, such as an author, actor or politician? I often do, and generally, in my dream, I always ask questions that I have been dying to know forever. Like why did the band really break up John? Or is it true that you are not really a redhead Lucy? Then whenever I wake up, I feel satisfied with the answer and that yearning is gone. The other day when I was sitting 5 feet away from 3 actors from my favorite miniseries of all time, Downton Abbey! I was allowed to ask them questions that have been swirling around in my mind for almost a decade. Guess what? I blanked. My question would have been how in the...

We attended a screening of Downton Abbey as a guest Nestled comfortably in my seat, waiting patiently for a film about a community that I have grown to love, I wondered what Julian Fellowes had in store for the audience. Who knew that in 2011 (it came out in the UK in 2010 but stateside did not get to watch it until 2011) when I watched my first episode on Masterpiece Theater, that many years later my beloved series would be on the big screen. Set between 1912-1927 in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey. (I learned this the hard way and went to visit Downton this past summer only to find that Highclere Castle was closed to the public and that the quaint town surrounding the castle were not close by but in Oxfordshire Cotswolds). The movie is mesmerizing with all of the music and characters, and you do not want ever to take your eyes off the screen. I enjoyed watching the film and singing along to my favorite songs and laughing at all the jokes Pumbaa and Timon made. I used to watch this film with my children when they were younger all the time, so sharing it with them when they are teenagers is a real treat for me as a mother. After walking the red carpet at the world premiere of Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and seeing the film, I was in love. The movie is based on the book, not the ballet, and is a film that families can enjoy watching together for years to come. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms One I saw the film, I couldn’t wait to share it with my children. Before opening night, I read them the books, took them to see Misty Copeland perform at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and even did a fun little craft with them. Then, when they saw the movie, they loved it just as much as I did. Now, the film is available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray for families to add to their home movie collections. I immediately added the...

We attended The Nutcracker and the Four Realms event as a guest of Disney One of the best things about Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is the music. While in Los Angeles a couple of months ago, I went to Pro Dance LA. At Pro Dance LA I got to experience a Nutcracker and the Four Realms Dance Class. The best part, is that it was taught by some of the cast from Dancing with the Stars/Dancing with the Stars Junior. Who you might ask? The amazing, and talented Brandon Armstrong, Alan Bersten & Gleb Savchenko. Not only are they talented, but so fun to dance with. Dancing at Pro Dance LA The studio is one of the most plush dance studios in Los Angeles. It features beautiful wood floors and head to toe windows. Plus, it...

Second Act: Interview with Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini

Thanks to STXfilms for the invitation Jennifer Lopez delivers an epic performance in the upcoming film “Second Act.” I loved every minute of the film, and I couldn’t wait to sit down with Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini to discuss their roles in the movie. One of my favorite things about this movie is that it is a story about a woman over the age of 40 reinventing herself. The message of the film will empower women over the age of 40. It will show women that you can be whatever you want. That it’s not over, it is just the beginning! It was one of the main reasons that Lopez wanted to make the film. “With Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas as my producing partner came up with the spark of an idea, like kind of a Working Girl, It’s a...

Lucky for me my mom and I watched a movie where the snow was plentiful, and the story was priceless. Holly Star is the ultimate Christmas movie that has everything you would want. The friendly drama, the falling in love, the mystery, and my favorite…THE SNOW!!! The movie is about a young puppeteer who loses her job and goes up to live with her parents for the holidays. There she slips on snow and has visions of Santa Claus burying a bag, and she is determined to find this bag. Along the way she reconnects with the boy she knew and strengths her friendships with the people around her. If...

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Review

Posted by on Dec 5, 2018 in Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

We attended an event as a guest of Sony “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility”. You don’t need to be a Spidey fanatic to know those timeless words. Ever since early days of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, those very first adventures with Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy, something stuck with us and never failed to impress or inspire. Spider-Man speaks to us all, and through the countless adventures in comic books, video games, and film series, we are still barely discovering the true power and significance of what Lee and Ditko started all those years ago. It’s more than a superhero story, and something that the new film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse takes to heart in ways you can’t possibly imagine. The film is the “ultimate” game changer, breaking the mold in every category in “amazing” and “spectacular” ways....

Beyond Spider-Man, the Power of Family and Inclusion in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse

The new film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t that story though, moving away from the classic hero tale we all know. Instead, it opens the door to a more dynamic and diverse universe that dares to take on the mainstream conventions of a superhero film. The cast and crew of the movie, just coming off completion of the final film edits less than two weeks ago, couldn’t wait to share their thoughts on the new picture. It all started with...
