OC Wine Fest – A Day of Wine + Friends

Posted by on Mar 29, 2018 in Events | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue A little rain didn’t stop this writer from attending the OC Wine Fest at “A Stones Throw” in San Juan Capistrano. In fact, we seemed to be in great company with fellow wine enthusiasts! Wineries from as far north as Napa and south to Escondido gathered to share their bottled treasures. Enticing us with beautiful notes of fruit; from the crispness of a Sauvignon Blanc to a full body flavor of a Cabernet Sauvignon. We enjoyed learning in depth about the winemakers and their individual stories. We found it often begins with a passion for creating a wine for themselves and soon discover they have a delicious wine to share with others; and so a winery is born. We love when that happens and by the winemakers enthusiasm, they do too....

BubbleFest is Back and Better than Ever

We visited as a guest of the venue One of our favorite family Spring Break traditions is to experience BubbleFest at Discovery Cube OC. As my children have been getting older, I have become a little worried that they will outgrow all the science fun at Discovery Cube OC, and I was thrilled to see that they still love visiting the popular educational destination. My kids are now 16, 14 and 11, and I had a hard time getting them to leave BubbleFest – they were enjoying it that much. This year, BubbleFest is located inside of Discovery Cube OC, so you don’t have to worry about the weather when planning a visit. The highlight of BubbleFest is The Mega Bubblefest Laser Show. This year was our favorite year seeing the show inside of the plush indoor theatre. During...

We visited as a guest of the venue Spring has sprung, and Easter bunnies all around are out and about visiting and taking photos with kids of all ages. Some bunnies can be a mix of cute and creepy, but the bunny at the South Coast Plaza is anything but that. This Bunny is amazing! My kids were in love with this bunny. When we got to the mall, we were invited to visit the Kids Atelier Store directly across from the carousel for a private event. They had some tasty treats, a balloon twister and a basket full of goodies for all the kiddos. My son loved the frog piggy bank that he received in his basket. There is a Springtime crafts cart that sells them and some other wooden things for kiddos to decorate for a fee...

We had the pleasure of attending Los Angeles’ inaugural Extreme Beer Festival at the California Market Center on Saturday, December 9. Between the afternoon and evening sessions, attendees collectively tasted more than 200 beers from over 60 breweries. Arriving to the festival’s location was fairly easy – thanks to the train and a prominent ridesharing app. After we shared an elevator ride with attendees to the 13th floor, we were surprised to see a fairly large yet intimate...

Winter Wonderfest: A Perfect Way to Keep Cool This Hot Holiday Season

Posted by on Dec 19, 2017 in Christmas, Events, Holiday, Museums | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue Oh, the weather outside is frightfully hot with the record-breaking heat this holiday season which means my plans for snow play up in the mountains during the holidays has been postponed.  Thank goodness for the Discovery Cube OC’s Winter Wonderfest!  You read it right…snow is coming to Orange County.  Year after year the Discovery Cube OC brings joy, snow, and fun to children and adults. To experience tubing down a huge 75-foot ramp, sledding, and playing in real snow you need three important things.  1. Warmish jacket. It may be in the high 70’s but baby it gets cold outside next to the ice.  2. Gloves!!! Any kind of gloves would do, but I highly recommend waterproof ones so that your fingers don’t freeze from making snowmen and throwing snowballs. 3....

Track the Paw Prints to Free Educational Classes at New Library

Posted by on Dec 11, 2017 in Crafts, Education, Events | 0 comments

Follow the painted bobcat and mountain lion paw prints prancing on the sidewalk to the new Library of the Canyons. Inside, watch out for the skunk, coyote and raccoon paw prints crawling up the walls to cave style paintings by local artist, Robert Myers. Throughout the children’s section, kids discover interactive displays, puzzles, puppet theatre and crafts. My son and his friends especially enjoy the library’s educational programs. The only place my son wants to be on Monday’s at 4 p.m. is at the library’s Crazy Eight’s math class. His favorite lesson dealt with sound waves. He made a pan flute from straws and noticed the changes in pitch from the different lengths of straw. Then he and his classmates headed outside to test the decibels of the flutes with an app on the children’s librarian, Shanon Delaney’s...
