Fresh, Fast and Flavorful Jimboy’s Tacos

Posted by on Sep 25, 2017 in Dining, Family | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue The minute that Jimboy’s Tacos opened in Aliso Viejo, it was all the buzz around our community. For months, I would drive past the popular taco hotspot, and couldn’t wait until the day that I would find myself sinking my taste buds into one of their famous tacos. Being the busy mom that I am, it took me longer than it should of for me to finally come into Jimboy’s Tacos for lunch. My kids had the day off school, and we were all craving tacos, so we jumped into the car and drove over to our local Jimboy’s Tacos. When we arrived, there was a line that went out the door – everyone in Aliso Viejo had the same cravings as us on that day. When I got to the...

Miguel’s Jr Comes to Huntington Beach

Posted by on Sep 21, 2017 in Dining | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue I love tacos, and I am always looking for a new place to get delicious tacos. I had heard a lot of buzz about Miguel’s Jr, but there was never a location close to my house until now. The popular family-owned restaurant chain recently opened a new location right in the heart of Huntington Beach in the Newland Center at the corner of Beach and Adams. With it being right down the street from my in-laws, we stopped in for dinner one-night last week. When we walked into the restaurant, it was packed. The restaurant was filled with families spending quality time together while enjoying tasty Mexican food. I liked that the menu wasn’t too big, and it made it easy to order something delicious for dinner. We went up to...

The Habit Burger Hatch Chile Menu Items

We dined as a guest of the venue I love spicy food, and when I learned that The Habit Burger was introduced a limited-time menu featuring hatch chiles, I couldn’t wait to come into the restaurant for a taste. The Habit Burger is a popular dining spot for locals in our area, and there is always a line that goes out the door (because it is that good). Yesterday, I went early to avoid the lunch crowd and had a hard time deciding which menu item I was going to try. The menu features a Grilled Hatch and Pepper Jack Charburger, a Grilled Hatch and Golden Chicken Salad, and a Grilled Hatch and Pepper Jack Chicken Sandwich. The employee at the counter helped me to make my decision and order the grilled hatch and golden chicken salad. I took...

Family Fun at Farmer Boys

Posted by on Sep 18, 2017 in Dining | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue My daughters and I dined at Farmer Boys newest location in Laguna Hills this evening. We weren’t familiar with the restaurant chain, and I learned that they began 35 years ago and now have 90 locations. Their philosophy is “farm fresh food” that is made to order, using as much locally sourced produce and ingredients as possible. My girls were happy to hear that they served breakfast all day and choose to order breakfast for dinner. My kids are practically pancake connoisseurs and said that they were quite fluffy and delicious. They concluded their meal with thick creamy milkshakes and were VERY pleased! During dinner, I enjoyed a BLTA, it was delicious bread, and the produce was just as fresh and flavorful as they claim. The restaurant has an extensive menu...

Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano

We dined as a guest of the venue Everyone loves good barbecue, but it can be hard to find around Orange County. I had heard a lot of buzz about Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano, so I decided to bring the family to give it a try over the weekend. The restaurant is hidden from the main road and is tucked in the corner of a small strip mall, but don’t let that fool you. We parked our car in front of the restaurant and got ready to embark on a delicious dinner at Bad to the Bone BBQ. There is a small patio in the front (with plenty of shade), a large indoor bar and family dining room. Guests can place their order at the front desk, take a number, and then the server...

Sample provided One of my favorite yearly traditions with my closest friends to celebrate the kids going back to school with a fun mom’s night out. While some years we have our yearly night away from the husband & kiddos at a local restaurant, the past couple of years, we have spent having a get together at one of my friends home. We will share our favorite summer memories together while sipping on wine and eating scrumptious appetizers. This year, I surprised my friends by bringing something different than our favorite Chardonnay to our get together and brought Two Chicks Cocktails. The minute that I walked in the door, my friends started asking me questions about the cocktails. They were all surprised to learn that Two Chicks Cocktails are all natural, gluten free and sweetened with stevia so we...

The Impossible Burger at Umami Burger

Posted by on Aug 29, 2017 in Dining | 0 comments

The world’s population is about 7.5 billion.  It has nearly doubled in 20 years and will continue to do so.  With growth comes the struggle to feed those mouths which to this point has caused a negative shift in the ecosystem.  In the US alone beef consumption, last year was 24.1 billion pounds; it is safe to say, American people love, their meat and I’m one of them.  Living in California, I am very conscious about my carbon foot print.  I recycle, use water conservatively, and drive a gas efficient car, so when I was invited to try Umami’s Impossible Burger, I said yes! I wasn’t really sure what the Impossible Burger was.  Before I ate it, I thought it would be a standard veggie patty, but I was very wrong.  After speaking to a representative from Impossible, I learned...

We dined as a guest of the venue When planning a family getaway to Pasadena, there are so many choices when it came to deciding where to go for dinner. I had heard a lot about Cafe Santorini, so I made reservations to have dinner on their rooftop patio on our first night in Pasadena. The restaurant was a short walk from The Courtyard by Marriott where we were staying for the weekend. We entered the restaurant through a small door on the side of the building and walked up the long and narrow staircase to check in with the hostess. My favorite feature of the restaurant is the outdoor dining ambiance. There are a couple of inside tables, but everyone who dines at Cafe Santorini wants to eat outside where there is a beautiful view of old town...

The restaurant is located in the 1934 luggage room of the Del Mar Train Station and is a great place for families to enjoy a delicious meal together. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by the nicest staff who helped show us to a table for the evening. The restaurant is intimate, has a large bar in the center, and an open-air kitchen where guests can see pizzas being made in the wood-burning oven. This year, my husband gave me the gift of taking me out for a romantic Hornblower dinner cruise in Newport Harbor, and it was one of the best Mother’s Day gifts I have ever received. We had recently gone on a Hornblower brunch cruise, and my husband knew how much I enjoyed that afternoon. Last weekend, he told me to get dressed up, and we were going out somewhere special to celebrate Mother’s Day. The minute that we arrived at the Hornblower dock in Newport Beach, I was overwhelmed with delight. I couldn’t wait to experience Hornblower at night. We walked up to the boat where the staff took a commemorative photo, and the captain welcomed...

Authentic Mexican Cuisine at Olamendi’s Dana Point

Posted by on May 3, 2017 in Dining, Staycation, Travel | 0 comments

We stayed as a guest of the resort mentioned One of our favorite places to get quick and delicious Mexican food in Orange County is at Olamendi’s. Olamendi’s is located in Dana Point right across from the beach, and was once a favorite dining spot of Richard Nixon. While on a recent staycation at the DoubleTree Suites in Doheny Beach, our family went sailing in Dana Point Harbor and then walked from our resort to Olamendi’s for lunch. The kids love the festive vibe of Olamendi’s Dana Point and always play a game of ISpy while we are dining in the restaurant. There is so much for the kids to see in the restaurant that it keeps them entertained so my husband and I can enjoy some quality time talking without being interrupted by the kiddos. After a long...

We stayed as a guest of the venue While staying at the DoubleTree Doheny Beach, my husband and I enjoyed some romantic time before taking the kids to dinner, watching the sunset at MoQUILA Agave Lounge. The lounge is one of the best-kept secrets in Orange County because it is not super busy on a Friday or Saturday night and offers couples beautiful views of the sunset over the crystalline waters of Doheny Beach. Both nights that we stayed at the DoubleTree Doheny Beach, my husband and I had cocktails at MoQUILA Agave Lounge during the sunset before taking the kids to dinner. The lounge features bar seating right along the edge of the roof, high top tables, couches and a large fire pit in the center. There was plenty of seating for couples, and it never felt crowded...

We dined as a guest All of my friends have been raving about Coastal Kitchen in Dana Point, so when I was making plans for our family seaside staycation at the DoubleTree Suites Doheny Beach, I also made reservations for us to have dinner at Coastal Kitchen. After a long day of endless fun in the sun, our children had worked up a big appetite. We got into the car and made the short drive from our hotel to the restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant, I was in awe of how beautiful it looked. There is a large outdoor patio and a fire pit with androck chairs by the front door – the only thing missing was some marshmallows to roast. The inside of the restaurant is even more beautiful than the outside. The entire interior has...

That is a lot of pineapples, and something worth celebrating! In celebration of pineapple season, Island’s has launched a tasty pineapple pairing menu that matches their pineapple menu items with the perfect tropical drink. When I told them that Corner Bakery Cafe recently introduced a choose any two menu offering, they were thrilled to know that they can still share a dish, and each gets what they want. The best part is that the meals are priced under $9!! When we went to Corner Bakery Cafe last week, we tried their choose any two menu offerings and got a Chicken pomodori half panini and caesar salad. The chicken pomodori sandwich...

We dined as a guest of the venue For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of having the opportunity to dine at the Majestic Yosemite Hotel (previously Ahwahnee) and during my recent trip to Yosemite, my dream came true. When making reservations for our tour of Yosemite National Park with Discover Yosemite, we were able to include lunch at the Majestic. When we arrived at the Majestic Yosemite Hotel for lunch, there was a red carpet waiting for us. We walked the red carpet and into the dining room. The dining room was truly “majestic, ” and it felt like we were dining in a castle. We had pre-ordered our lunch when booking our tour, so everything was taken care of when we arrived. My daughter and I sipped on an ice tea and talked about...

We dined as a guest of the venue There was one thing that kept me coming back to Leatherby’s month after month, and that was because of the delicious cuisine that Award-winning Chef Ross Pangilinan was creating in their kitchen. When news broke that Chef Ross was leaving Leatherby’s to open his own restaurant, I began counting down the days until I could enjoy his delicious dishes once again. Chef Ross is an OC Dad and one of the biggest culinary geniuses in Orange County. He pushes culinary boundaries with his Filipino-inspired cuisine, and guests are guaranteed to have an unforgettable dining experience at his new restaurant in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana, Mix Mix Kitchen Bar. We dined as a guest of the venue The Lime Truck was one of my favorite food trucks that cruised around Orange County and now that they have a store location just a short drive away from my house, I can’t help but enjoy dining at TLT Food on a regular basis. TLT Food is growing with the newest addition being their Little Limer’s kids menu featuring a wide variety of tasty dishes for kids to enjoy. During the holiday break, I surprised my kids with lunch at TLT Food to try their new Little Limer’s kids menu items. Our children had the choice of ordering a Classic Cheese Quesadilla, PB&J Sliders or Shorty Sliders with Braised Beef Short Rib and Cheese. They couldn’t decide, so we ended up ordering one of each. The shorty sliders with braised beef...

We dined as a guest of the venue There are so many dining options when staying at Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite, and one of my favorite places to have lunch when staying at the resort is at Jackalope’s Bar & Grill. The restaurant has a wide variety of dining options and has a family-friendly ambiance. On one of the days when I was staying at Tenaya Lodge, my daughter and I went on an adventurous snowshoe hike. We got to look at trees and make snow angels while embracing the beauty that surrounds Yosemite National Park. After our hike, we had worked up quite a big appetite, so we went for an early lunch at Jackalope’s Bar & Grill. They had a lot of healthy dining suggestions on their menu, and our server recommended that I try the taco...

We dined as a guest of the venue After a busy day on the road, we popped into the Lighthouse Cafe in Newport Beach to help in celebrating the restaurant’s one year anniversary. You’ll enjoy the architecture of the Lighthouse Cafe with large windows overlooking the harbor, a modern rotating chandelier overhead and seating around the perimeter; offering a great view from each table. Seriously, there isn’t a bad view in the house. We enjoyed some delicious menu items prepared on this evening, by Chef Ryan Sumner. A few favorites he shared with us were a mouth watering Short Rib that will melt in your mouth accompanied by a Grilled Mushroom; you’ll find this dish to be comforting and full of...

The restaurant felt so inviting, but because of the taps of rain coming...

So we popped over to Brew Ho Ho, Holiday Ale Festival on December 10th at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim. After all, we know our local area creates some amazing brews! We saw the list of breweries participating and although we had only visited a handful; this was a great way to learn about more of them. Each brewery gave a couple of choices; usually, a sampling of their most liked beer and a clever, holiday blend available seasonally. This event was the perfect way to explore with over 80 breweries participating; some familiar but several we didn’t even know about yet. Choices. So many choices. Which tent should...

Southgate Brewing Company is located near Yosemite in Oakhurst and is a favorite dining spot for locals and visitors of the area. I am not a big beer drinker, but I fell in love with all the beers I tasted during the tasting with the Tenaya Red IPA being my all-time favorite. The tasting dinner began with coconut shrimp with a cucumber cilantro sauce paired with the Gold Diggin Blonde beer. The shrimp had the perfect amount of crisp and the beer brought out the flavors of the...

Sponsored We were recently invited to be a guest at The Harvest Restaurant in Laguna Beach. This gorgeous new gem has emerged in what we previously knew as Ben Brown’s at the Aliso Creek Inn and Golf Course. If you’re like us, you have very fond memories of visiting for dinner to celebrate special occasions with family throughout the years. The Harvest Restaurant’s new design is progressive and open with inviting views of the golf course and canyon; while still preserving the nostalgia of the property. We found ourselves exploring the various spaces; both inside and outside on the deck, slowly relaxing and breathing in the scenery. Our favorite surprise of the evening was Chef Charles Imbelli, who was recognized by Zagat as “30 under 30”. He invites you to embark on an adventure to experience his specially chosen...

They specialize in high end comfort food with a “farm to table” feel and hand crafted cocktails, mixology at its finest. Among Friends Allergy-friendly Baking Mixes

When having a child with food allergies, finding baking mixes that turn out just like non-allergy baking mixes is a challenge. There have been so many times that I have purchased a gluten-free brownie mix, and the brownies turn out thin and tasteless – until being introduced to Among Friends Baking Mixes. I have been testing out their baking mixes for the past couple of weeks, and wish that I had heard about them sooner. Their pancake mix is my son’s favorite. It is hand-crafted using whole grain, gluten-free, no gums, no GMO’s, and no fillers. Only the ingredients that you would want in a pancake being served to your precious children. It’s not just pancake/waffle mixes that Among Friends makes but also a wide variety of cookies and cake mixes. They have something for everyone to enjoy. Guess...

They didn’t want to stop watching them making ice cream until I pointed out the tasty candy bar. We then went over to select our toppings from the vast selection of candies and our ice cream flavor.
