Mom’s Day Out at Glen Ivy Hot Springs

Posted by on Sep 12, 2018 in Beauty, Events, Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue Now that the kids are back in school, it is the perfect time to get your girlfriends together for a day of pampering and relaxation at Glen Ivy Hot Springs. This year, I celebrate the back-to-school season by spending a relaxing day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs with one of my dear friends. We dropped the kids off at school and took the short drive over to Glen Ivy Hot Springs where we would embark on an unforgettable day of healing. When we arrived at Glen Ivy Hot Springs, we put our things into a locker, put on our plush spa robes, and then found two lounge chairs by one of their many pools to spend the day. Throughout the day, we took our time exploring all of the 19 pools....

We left our obligations, errands and life expectations at the door, to share with about 75 other women our spirits, kind hearts, and thirst for knowledge on how we can take better care of ourselves and each other.  I visited as a guest of BodyArmor The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), in partnership with NBA LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and LA Galaxy legend Cobi Jones, recently announced the newest Gold Cup partner: BodyArmor. The event began at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with Kobe and Cobi holding a joint press conference announcing BodyArmor, which is dedicated to providing athletes only the best in nutrition and hydration. Introducing BodyArmor to the media pool, Cobi Jones expressed, “I’m excited to see this partnership grow and I’m excited...

What Parents Need to Know about Eating Disorders and Children

Posted by on Jun 12, 2017 in Family, Fitness, Health, Hot Topics, Parenting | 0 comments

Sponsored As a mother of a teenaged daughter, I feel it is important to be aware of any possible signs of an eating disorder. We live in a time where young girls feel an extreme amount of pressure to look a certain way, and can easily develop body image issues which can lead to eating disorders. Over the past year, I have been aggressively working on weight loss and changing my eating habits to be healthier. I have started to get concerned that maybe I have been spending too much time talking about my weight loss journey around my daughter, and wanted to ensure that my actions do not impact her and cause body image issues. Last week, I talked with Dr. Mery Taylor at CHOC Children’s Hospital about what is an eating disorder, signs that parents like myself...

Exploring Irvine with Pedego Electric Bikes

Posted by on May 18, 2017 in Biking Trails, Cool Places, Family, Featured, Fitness, Parks | 0 comments

We went on a tour as a guest of the venue Growing up in Newport Beach, bike riding was one of my favorite things to do on the weekends. Then I grew up, got married, and moved to South Orange County where biking riding is nearly impossible with a massive hill around every corner. I often miss the days of riding my bike to a restaurant for lunch or to the store to pick-up a couple of groceries. A couple of my friends had been posting pictures of their families going on bike rides every weekend around Orange County, and when I asked one of my friends how she stays in such great shape to tackle riding a bike up and down the South OC hills, she told me that they have been riding Pedego electric bikes. I was...

My Cinch Sack Burns Calories, Does Yours?

Posted by on Mar 20, 2017 in Family, Fitness | 0 comments

Sample received I have no shame in admitting this, but sometimes I feel like I have a career to support my obsession with traveling! Sure I travel for work to exciting places such as Wisconsin during the winter (ugh!) or to Palm Springs for a quick escape, but more frequently I travel around the world looking to take in new cultures, have adventures, and more importantly create memories with the people I love most. But I’ll admit that 99% of the time, hitting the Residence Inn dungeon of a hotel gym is not at the top of my list! I’ve always struggled with a way to stay motivated to work out while on vacation and even when I try to wake up an hour before everyone else, tip-toeing around the room in the dark trying to find my running...

A New Twist on Your Cardio Workout

Posted by on Jan 9, 2017 in Fitness, Health | 0 comments

Sample Received After not being able to exercise for a couple of weeks after having surgery, I was having trouble getting motivated to start working out again. Every time I walked past my elliptical, I just couldn’t bring myself to get back on it, but I knew that I needed to start working out again, so I began looking into a fun way to mix-up my traditional ‘boring’ workout routine. When I started researching workout routines, I was overwhelmed with all the different options that are available. There was one workout that stood out to me and looked like a fun way to spice up my workout – The Cardio Dance Hoop. Once my Cardio Dance Hoop arrived, I couldn’t wait to try it. I was able to assemble it within just a few minutes, got my workout clothes...

Ready to sweat? Here’s your FREE opportunity to!

Posted by on Dec 30, 2016 in Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue They had me at free cycle shoes. Never have I ever heard of a cycle studio offering complimentary cycle shoes (clean too!) along with stylish water bottles at every class. This is a true luxury, especially at no additional charge! CycleBar is modern, organized and well thought out. The atmosphere is bright and energizing with bold pops of red in design features. They offer one large cycle room with stadium seating and club-like lighting. Every cyclist knows the importance of good lighting because it not only compliments our physique in the mirror (makes us look a bit hotter while we sweat our buns off). It also keeps us motivated when a drill gets more intense, and that little voice inside of us is telling us to quit, something about those high-intensity...

Choosing a Cleanse that’s Right for You

Posted by on Nov 12, 2016 in Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

There are so many moms who struggle with weight loss. It has been one of my biggest personal challenges over the past couple of years, and I have found myself trying many diet programs and cleanses. I have done extreme dieting, and many cleanses over the years, and have found nothing that I could not withstand long term until recently starting the Newport Beach Cleanse. When looking for a diet plan or cleanse, it is important to find a program that is a lifestyle change, and not a dramatic plan with lots of lofty promises. While doing cleanses in the past, I have always felt deprived, hungry, and just plain miserable. Once the program is over, I always go back to jumping on the carb and sugar drain where I gain the weight back, plus a few new...

Yoga Doesn’t Take Time, It Gives Time

Posted by on Sep 9, 2016 in Family, Fitness | 0 comments

I love coffee. I love yoga. I have a full time career. Now guess which one of those is the hardest to fit into my schedule? You guessed it, YOGA! But when I met Caffe Yoga’s founder and skilled yogi, Kimberly Tollman, she reminded me that yoga doesn’t take time, it gives time. As a woman in today’s high paced society, it’s hard to always remember that, but at the end of the day, we must. Walking into their charming studio, I was impressed with their large one room space, but not overwhelmed with the typical excessive yogapant shop-in-shop or over eccentric receptionist. Their studio is warm, inviting and adorned with incredible custom art pieces from local artists. The main wall is backlit with a large colorful mandala overlay, which provided a peaceful background to my vinyasa flow....

We attended a preview event as a guest of the venue Big news for us, fitness-minded people, looking for cute, and comfortable workout apparel in Orange County. We have a new Fabletics retail location which recently opened in The Shops at Mission Viejo. It was so exciting for me because I enjoy working out and I really like the Fabletics line. On a recent evening, I popped in to take a peek at the store up close. While familiar with Fabletics; having used their monthly active wear service delivered to my home, I really love the idea that I can now try things on first. Like most, my body type is a little hard to fit, since I’m only 5’1 and basically have no waist. I’ve had great results during my membership, but occasionally I need to return an...

Don’t Miss the Rams Training Camp at UCI

Posted by on Aug 16, 2016 in Events, Featured, Fitness | 2 comments

I grew-up in a house full of girls, and I don’t have a memory of watching a single football game as a child. It wasn’t until meeting my husband that I was introduced to the sport, and with his family being huge Rams fans (even though they left for Saint Louis) I began sitting through many nights watch football on television. Now that I have children, and two boys, a love for football was passed down to my boys from their father and grandfather. Who is their favorite team? The Rams. The first gift that my kids were given from the grandfather was a St. Louis Rams baby onesie. Over time, my boys have collected everything Rams from ponchos to t-shirts, and they have a massive collection of Rams memorabilia. When the news broke that the Rams were...

Each class combines hand weights to build strength in arms, back and shoulders. Plus working your core with dips, push-ups and side bends while cycling simultaneously. Yes…I said push-ups while you’re cycling! Intense! I walked into a Costa Mesa office building, to a smaller than usual studio front and quickly realized this cycle studio was a place to work out! It wasn’t the traditional bright, trendy hang out or scene that I was used to with catching up with friends, but rather a race...

Young athletes can be pushed to their limits in competitive sports, and sadly some end up giving up on their dreams. My son, Tyler had always dreamed of playing football, and while we were waiting for him to bulk up so he could give the game a try, it never happened. But, we didn’t let him give up on his dream of playing football, and helped to support him on his journey and fueled his love for the game. Once he started playing football, he was the smallest one on the team, and had to give 110% to keep up with the other athletes, but that didn’t stop him. He persevered, worked hard, and ended up being the strongest player on the...

These are five simple tips for getting healthier and #StartSmart2016 in the New Year. Stay Active Staying active is key to maintaining a healthy body. Instead of driving your kids to the park, try walking. One of my favorite ways to ensure that my entire family stays active is by going for a nightly walk together after dinner. I’ve hiked in them, traveled with them and spent most of my adult like wearing them. When I was invited on a trip of a lifetime to hike in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, I knew that I had to bring a good pair of tennis shoes for hiking – but realized I didn’t know where to start when looking for a good pair of tennis shoes to bring with me on my trip. I went into the store with my younger son and was immediately greeted by the nicest staff members. They...

Marathon Bucket List: The 40th Marine Corps Marathon

Posted by on Nov 3, 2015 in Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

I had the great privilege to run the 40th annual Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, October 25, 2015. This marathon is a “bucket list” race for many runners – it’s The People’s Marathon, a race unlike any other. Prior to this weekend I was amazed how many fellow runners had encouraged me to add this race to my list – by and far it was the race most often mentioned as a “must run”. It’s not a particularly fast course – in fact the last .2 miles is all uphill, which is really kind of crummy from a running perspective. It’s also held in October – which means the bulk of your training, including your longest training runs, are done during the hotest months of the year. So I wondered, what makes this race so special? Yes, it’s in DC and...

I had longed to pick up a sport of some kind. Then one day during a high school P.E. class, I realized there was a sport I really enjoyed, and I was kind of good at: tennis. My relationship with the racquet and the little yellow ball continued to grow throughout my teen and adult life. Even my football-sized husband, and I started playing tennis together. And then something happened…kids. There are six delicious flavors to choose from: Fruit Punch, Orange Mango, Strawberry Banana, Tropical Punch, Mixed Berry, and Grape. I tried all six flavors and I can’t really decide my favorite – they’re all really good. It’s almost more of a fresh juice flavor – without the texture of juice. I’m not usually a fan of grape-flavored drinks and yet I did like this one – it’s not my favorite, but I did like it. I wanted to use these drinks as hydration products during a race to see how they affected...

Instead of that tight waist, there’s now an extra layer of fat that reminds you of a small baby whale. Your thighs also seem to have expanded much like that of the Pillsbury Doughboy. Let’s not forget about the shoe size. The previous, normal shoe size has now reached an epic size known only to Amazon women. Just like your little purses have been replaced by larger tote-styled bags, those cute little dresses have also been traded in for stretchy yoga pants and other “active wear.” And this, my dear mom friends is the best you can hope for, besides, maybe getting a solid four hours of sleep. But perhaps there’s an inkling of hope for those...

We have spent countless hours searching stores in the local malls trying to find yoga clothes for tweens, and all we can ever find are clothes for adults – until now. We recently stumbled across an activewear line called Limeapple at our local Costco (the last place we would have never expected to find tween activewear). The high-quality performance wear outfits come with both a top and capri leggings with cute fabric that every little girl will love. The best part – they are priced at just $18.99! If you purchase the...

Mother Daughter Training at MEEDO Taekwondo

Posted by on Feb 26, 2015 in Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

We attended as a guest of the venue My daughter and I provided with a complimentary month membership at MEEDO Taekwondo. When I told my 6-year-old daughter that she was very excited and I was more than a little apprehensive.  Being a mom in my 40’s, the old saying of “teaching an old dog, new tricks” kept bouncing in my head!  Needless to say, now having been through it, I am very excited and thrilled with the outcome. I attended the Taebo classes during the day and found that this is a full body workout.  “Tae” means leg and it relates to kicks and your lower body  and “bo” refers to  boxing so think punches and lots of upper body movements.  Taebo will tone your arms, back, shoulders and legs but also your core.  If you are like this mom, who hates...

The Force Was with Many for the Star Wars Run Disney Half Marathon Weekend

Posted by on Feb 24, 2015 in Disney, Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

What a spectacular event put on by Run Disney! They out did themselves with the Star Wars Run Disney half marathon weekend. I did not run the half marathon this year, I did run the 10K, and I have to say it was by far my favorite 10K course that I’ve ever run. Because 4.5 of the 6.2 miles went through the parks, which is AWESOME! The Star Wars Characters were abundant everywhere, and the costumes that everyone was wearing were amazing, just jaw-dropping creativity. The excitement of the other runners is palpable. The Star Wars theme brought out people this year that are not normally runners, but it turned them into runners. So in addition to putting together a fabulous race, it brought families together, and they ran races together when it had previously just been one...

This is the big week! The official weekend of the Inaugural Star Wars Run Disney Race at the Disneyland Resort on January 15th through the 18th. Run Disney hosts a series of races every year at The Disneyland Resort, and this weekend is the first ever Star Wars themed series. I’ve run three Disneyland Half Marathons in the past, and they are by far the most fun, best organized and awesome. The race trail goes throughout the Disneyland Resort, and the majority of the course is flat. If you’re new to running then you probably, can appreciate a nice flat course. This race announcement started early last spring and sold out on the first day! The buzz and talk amongst the social media crowd have me so excited to run this race that I even put together a...

What it’s Like to Start a Bootcamp

Posted by on Jan 13, 2015 in Family, Fitness | 0 comments

It all started one day when I was browsing in a Halloween store, that a neighbor asked if I wanted to check out a bootcamp. I kept asking my husband over and over that night..”Could I really do that? I mean do you think I could do that…is that nuts?” I wondered if I could get up at 5 a.m. in the dark and get myself together and drive to the other side of town. I remember that first couple of days…seeking out my personal space and copying what all the other ladies did. Weights there like so, mat laid out to face the instructor, etc. I followed their routine… the warm up, the weight exercises and then the run. It felt exhilarating and strange to see houses with the occupants not yet awake. I commiserated about my...

CoachUp: The Difference in the Details

When you’re coaching your child’s soccer team, it’s almost second-nature to recall each game in fine detail. But when the details don’t reflect your team’s potential, it’s time to take action. Antonio Oropeza of Lomita, California heads his son Antonio Jr.’s under-14 boys soccer team, Melbourne City FC. He clearly remembers the game before his son received one-on-one coaching through CoachUp. “We had taken 3 total shots on goal,” says Oropeza of that match. The team was averaging 5 to 7 shots on goal per game throughout the season and had yet to win a game. “All of a sudden, we were attacking the goalie.” The Melbourne City FC took 18 shots on goal that day, winning their first game of the season, 2–0. “My son took 5 shots,” Oropeza recalls like it was yesterday. “The other boys’...

Fall sports are in full swing, but do you know what to feed your young athlete before, during and after games? Americans spend billions of dollars on specialized coaching and personal trainers (guilty!), so shouldn’t we pay attention to what these kids eat? After all, food is fuel, the fuel that sustains them during long and arduous practices, games and tournaments. But did you know young athletes are NOT like regular kids? Here are a few reasons why and strategies to keep them well fueled: Young Athletes are NOT like regular kids Young athletes are like expensive racecars; they need high quality fuel, and a lot of it! These kids/teens are not only spending lots of calories in order to grow, they have significant additional demands to keep up with their sports. Young athletes need to eat a...

I have been provided a complimentary membership, but everything in this story is honest & true. Left Coast Crossfit has changed my life! I have been a member of our local gym with many fancy machines and workout classes since 2009. In all those years, I can count on one hand how many times I went to that gym to work out. What I found being a member of a traditional gym was that I had no motivation and seemed lost with how to work out correctly, and how to use the weights safely and effectively. I had no sense of community, and the team element needed when training towards a strong goal. After I became a member of Left Coast Crossfit in Laguna Hills two months ago, I choose to leave our local gym. I have found a...

Lately, I had noticed my neck tightening and I had been having pain in my left hip for months. So much so, that I couldn’t sit comfortably in any position. I just had to try this, so I made an appointment with state licensed massage therapist and AAAI training instructor Ely Leon. The experience was so much more than what I was expecting. Ely has created a unique system that combines Thai influenced assisted yoga stretch, clinical acupressure, and deep tissue massage. Wow. When my son was just a toddler he got spooked when a squid came up to his mask while snorkeling with us in Hawaii. Ever since that day, we had no luck in getting him past “where he could touch” in the ocean. Now that he is in Junior High, a lot of his friends are surfing. He keeps telling us...

Falling in Love with The Renaissance Club Sport Aliso Viejo

Posted by on Apr 13, 2014 in Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

The OC Mom Blog supports the RCSAV If you have to workout, which “yes” we all have to do then the Renaissance Club Sport in Aliso Viejo is the perfect place to go. Working out is necessary for our health both mental and physical. Being a cancer survivor and mom of two boys with autism, working out is my therapy, it keeps me healthy and is a great way to alleviate my stress. I was lucky enough to join a group of women who are part of the Lindora New Lean for Life weight loss program, and I have had success with the program over the last 5 weeks. I’m down 12.5 lbs, and I am feeling really great. We are helping support each other on the food program as well as in the gym. Gyms, as many of...

San Diego Hot Chocolate 15K/5K

Posted by on Apr 12, 2014 in Events, Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

I love to run – I have undoubtably become a bit addicted to running. But, I’ll admit I love chocolate too. Yes, it may not be the best food for maintaining my girlish figure, but as most moms will agree that life is better with chocolate. So, how excited do you think I was when I found out about the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K? Chocolate in San Diego? Really! I knew right away that I would be registering for this race. I was fortunate to have a friend, Karen, and her husband who signed up to run this race also – it’s always more fun to run with friends (and it’s more fun to enjoy chocolate with friends too!) There were about 13,000 runners who participated in the two Hot Chocolate races. The majority of the runners participated in the...

How to Reduce Stress and be a Healthy Happy Mom

Posted by on Apr 9, 2014 in Family, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

The OC Mom Blog Supports RCAV I am so excited to be back at the Aliso Viejo Renaissance Club Sport. It has been a long time and starting back couldn’t have come at a better time. I am at full “stress” capacity with parenting my 3 children, trying to be a good wife (although I would give myself a D grade in that arena right now), working part time and finishing my Ph.D. dissertation. Normally, when I have been at this point I would stop working out because I felt guilty. I would think about all the things I should have been doing instead, such as; folding laundry, reading more articles for my dissertation, doing a craft with the kids, following up on e-mails, etc., etc. I would always seem to find an excuse as to why working out...

OC Dad Dedicated to Getting Fit at Renaissance Club Sport Aliso Viejo

The OC Mom Blog supports the RCSAV The hardest part of reaching a goal is to understand the end. When I started my MBA program, on our first day of orientation our Dean of school wrote down a date. It was three years into the future, and he explained that it was our graduation date. It would make it easier when things get a little tough. With that mindset I started my new road to losing 20 pounds. I have been working out on and off for the past two years with little success. First six months I did manage to lose about 5 pounds but I hit a plateau and didn’t know how to get out of it. Eventually it was a losing battle. Not this around – that is my new motto. I started my new journey...

Run Disney Glass Slipper Challenge

Posted by on Mar 7, 2014 in Disney, Featured, Fitness, Health, Theme Parks | 0 comments

Last year I set a crazy goal for myself. I had never run a race before – not even a 5K fun run, but I had heard about the Run Disney races and they sounded like so much fun that I registered for the Disneyland 10K last year. I shared my experience on the blog as I had some ups and downs training for that race. Then, Run Disney announced that in 2014 they would have a special edition Coast-to-Coast medal for runners who participated in the Tinkerbell Half Marathon and the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Crazy me, who still hadn’t even run that first 10K yet when registration opened for these races, decided to do this. I wanted that pink Coast-to-Coast medal. I didn’t know how, but I was going to run 2 half marathons a month apart. Not...

Orange County Spin Classes at GRIT Cycle in Costa Mesa

Posted by on Mar 6, 2014 in Featured, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

The little house where GRIT Cycle is located in Costa Mesa does not look like a workout facility. It is very inviting and clean with a great little porch.  Parking is very limited in the parking lot but there’s plenty of parking on the street next to it. I had no problem finding a place on the street to park. The cycle room has stadium setting with over 40 bikes, all facing a mirror that created the illusion of over 100 bikes. Each bike has a number and when you reserve a class online (which is really easy to do) you can pick exactly the bike you want according to a seating chart. I think this feature is awesome! Being a busy mom, I can’t always get to a class 30 min in advance to get my “favorite...

We Deserve Good Health

Three years ago, when I was 1 year cancer free, I didn’t give something up, but I decided to DO something for the 40 days of Lent, and it stuck (sort of). I was determined to get healthy after kicking cancer to the curb, and I vowed to do something healthy every day during lent, and that meant SWEAT, for at least 20 minutes a day. It started me on a journey of fitness that I love, and I became a runner, a slow runner, but anyways a runner. I trained, and one year later, I ran my first half marathon. I have run 4 more half marathons since then. My children have autism, and since it is clear that I have to be healthy, strong and fast to care for them as long as possible, my health...

Welcome to Disney’s Wide World of Sports! From February 20-22, this is the home of the Fit for a Princess Expo held in connection with Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend. Every great race has a great expo and in my opinion Disney expos are among the best. That may very well be because I’m a big Disney fan. Along with all the amazing vendors that cater to the running world, we also get vendors who produce special merchandise for the Run Disney races and of course, the official Run Disney merchandise store. The expo can be a little overwhelming though – there are a lot of vendors and the aisles are not overly spacious. You will find everything your running princess’ heart desires at the Fit for a Princess Expo. They had limited edition Dooney & Burke items,...

Have a Moms Day Out at the Renaissance Club Sport

Kids crying? Juice spilling on the kitchen table? Kids won’t take a nap? Sound Familiar? While motherhood is a beautiful thing, it is also exhausting. The best way to stay refreshed, happy and relaxed throughout motherhood is by taking care of yourself. After my girlfriend had finished running her first 1/2 marathon, I treated her to spa day at my favorite place in Orange County to relax and recharge – The Renaissance Club Sport in Aliso Viejo. I have been coming to the club for years, and although I should be coming more to work-out, I have found it my favorite place to have “mom time.” With my membership, I get three hours of professional childcare every day so that I can have a break anytime I need it while knowing that my children are being cared for by the...

Today is the big day that our talented writer, and supermom to six young children, leaves for Florida to run in the Disney World Princess Half Marathon. Julie has been training for months for this big weekend in Florida and successfully completed the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland Resort earlier this year. We are thrilled to share her journey as she inspires all of us, on the OC Mom Blog Instagram and Facebook page this weekend. She will complete her first Coast-to-Coast Challenge by running the “Glass Slipper Challenge” this weekend which includes the Enchanted 10K on Feb 22nd, and the Princess Half Marathon on the February 23rd at Walt Disney World. This mom is a true inspiration to all of us that even after six kids, we can all take care of our bodies by keeping fit and...

Evening with BASI Pilates in Costa Mesa

Posted by on Feb 19, 2014 in Featured, Fitness, Health | 0 comments

On Thursday, February 13, 2014, BASI Pilates Studio partnered with SELF Magazine and the American Heart Association for a “Change of Heart” event. The studio held Pilates mat classes throughout the day and we were fortunate to attend the evening class with BASI founder, Rael Isacowitz. We are both new to Pilates so this was a wonderful opportunity to not only try a new fitness program, but to support research and education for heart disease in women. Pilates, in conjunction with an aerobic program, is a great avenue for primary and secondary prevention of heart disease and is particularly beneficial for promoting long-term heart health through stress reduction. Julie’s thoughts: Since this class was made up of both beginners (such as ourselves) and people who have been doing Pilates for decades, our instructor, Rael, adjusted the routine so...

Fabletics Activewear Review

Sponsored As many of you know, I’ve been working this past year on getting fit and my exercise of choice is running. Since I have six kids and have to stay on a budget, I am always on the lookout for a great deal on good quality activewear. Fabletics is a new online retailer that was co-founded by Kate Hudson, I was excited to place my first order. When the clothes arrived, right away I was impressed with the quality of the product. All the seams are flat locked for strength and durability. The fabrics are soft and made with high quality fabrics. The first outfit I ordered was “Support”. It includes reversible running sleeves, the “Wahoo” top, and “Suva” run short. The running sleeves are wonderful! They come in a “one size” and I was a bit worried...

Products, plans, and people. It was full of a lot of bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts, and my favorite event was watching the CrossFit competitions, what amazing athletes these regular people have turned into. I’m dying to get into CrossFit but it’s a little pricey, but I will find a way I am really looking forward to some of the food products that are coming out soon from Food for Life. We are now a gluten free family, and they have a gluten free...

Everything is more fun with a friend. The events of the weekend actually started on Thursday with the opening of the Expo held in the convention center at the Disneyland Hotel (Thursday – Saturday). Creating Family Memories Running 5K Races

Posted by on Jan 13, 2014 in Family, Featured, Fitness | 0 comments

So, I’ve been working hard this past year to get in shape & my workout of choice is running 5K races. This year my kids’ charter school implemented a new requirement for PE – in order for students to earn an A they need to participate in an “above and beyond” option. There’s several things for the kids to choose from – they can do a PE log, participate in a team sport, do mileage club during recess, etc. Since I caught the running bug and I’m always looking for fun things to do as a family I decided we’d run a 5K to fulfill the requirement. When you have 6 kids it can be expensive to have the whole family participate in a race. Many races cost $40-60 per person. That’s a nice chunk of change when you...

How to Stay Healthy and Get Fit in the New Year

Posted by on Dec 19, 2013 in Featured, Fitness, Holiday, New Year's Eve | 0 comments

Is getting fit in 2014 one of your New Year’s Resolutions? Wondering how to stay healthy in 2014? We sat down with fitness expert Erin Woodbury to discuss ways that you can get fit and stay healthy in the New Year! What is the best tip for getting fit? My best tip is to not get caught up in resolutions. Fitness and health need to be priorities daily, not one big push once or twice per year. A resolution is usually stated once, and often, the statement is too vague. Committing to “get healthier,” or “go to the gym more often,” doesn’t claim a specific goal. Fitness needs to be a daily discussion people have internally, and out loud with others. The internal voice must be louder than the one that says, “I’m too tired to go to the...

Ragnar Trail Relay at Vail Lake

A few months ago my friend Cheryl asked me if I wanted to join her team for the Ragnar Trail Relay at Vail Lake. I had never participated in a Ragnar before, but it has been one of my “bucket list” items since I first learned about the overnight relay races through my cousins. Since I have been training for a half-marathon in January anyhow I thought it was a great time to add in an event. I’ve never really done much trail running, but it couldn’t be that bad, could it? Well, there was this… And there was this… But the view from the top was amazing if you happened to get to run it in daylight instead of the middle of the night, in the rain! For those of you who aren’t familiar with Ragnar Trail Relays,...

Being the mom of 6 kids it can be hard to find “me time” but as all moms know – it’s important to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your family. So, I decided the best way to guarantee success was to set a goal. Since I’m a big Disney fan (like many OC moms) I decided to sign up for a Run Disney Race. I chose the new 2013 Disneyland 10K that took place this morning as part of the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend. My journey to finish the Disneyland 10K was not without it’s ups and downs. Since I love Sambazon, and go to the cafe in Newport on a regular basis, I decided to try their cleanse for three days. What I liked about the Sambazon Cleanse vs. others I have done in the past is that I was still able to eat regular food. The three juice package, that can be found at Costco, came with a recipe book filled with delicious recipes that I enjoyed eating while doing the cleanse. What I was surprised to learn,...
