Help the Homeless Children in Orange County

Posted by on Jul 8, 2014 in Events, Family, Featured, Giving Back | 1 comment

It’s Your Opportunity to Get Involved: Help At-Risk Youth in Orange County to Break the Cycle of Homelessness, Once and for All. When the Illumination Foundation was founded in late 2007, our vision to break the cycle of homelessness in Orange County was born. We are dedicated to leveraging innovative, integrated care and unique partnerships to provide local homeless families with health and housing stability. We’ve helped hundreds of Orange County families to get off the streets and in to stable jobs and homes, and for that, we are eternally grateful to the community for its support of our mission. We are especially focused on giving youth the tools they need to change their lives and accomplish their dreams. Known as the “neighborhood gem,” our Children’s Resource Center is located in the Tina Pacific area of Stanton, Calif., where...

Help Save the Summer Program for Homeless Children in Orange County

Posted by on Jun 3, 2014 in Family, Giving Back | 1 comment

The Orange County Rescue Mission is calling on the local community to provide donations in order to make its annual “Summer to Remember” program a reality for 30 homeless children this year. According to Jim Palmer, President of the Orange County Rescue Mission, no donations have been made to provide the $25,000 needed to run the 2014 program, which provides homeless children with opportunities to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally with hands-on learning throughout summer break. “Homeless children are twice as likely to have a learning disability, repeat a grade, or to be suspended from school,” explained Palmer. “Many of the children who are now residents at the Village of Hope were recently living on the streets with their families. As a result, most of them have fallen behind both intellectually and socially, and are in deep need of...

Posted by on Apr 29, 2014 in Earth Day, Family, Fashion, Giving Back | 0 comments

Have you visited your local Goodwill lately? I recently attended an event at the Lake Forest Goodwill during Earth Day, and was very pleasantly surprised by their transformations! Did you know they actually have 2 stores at the location (23740 El Toro Road)? On the left-hand side is the “main” Goodwill store, filled with racks of gently used clothing and shoes for men, women, and children, tons of glassware and knick-knacks, some furniture, and other home items. On the right-hand side is the “Keepers”, which has been recently redone as the 2nd “OC Goodwill Boutique”. This side is filled with brand name and designer items, mostly clothing for women, some shoes and bags, and men’s items as well. I also learned a lot of interesting facts about Goodwill that are worth sharing with you all! Did you know that...

Help Teen Girls Get Their ‘Sparkle On’ for Prom

Posted by on Apr 17, 2014 in Events, Family, Fashion, Giving Back, Uncategorized | 1 comment

Teenage girls anticipate this one special event all year long. No, it’s not a spring break trip. Not a summer excursion. Think sparkling dresses, slow dances and punch. You guessed it…prom. Like me, you’re a “tad bit” past the age of corsages, over-the-top hair dos and heels that cause your feet to ache for days. Also like me, you probably have a few gently used formal dresses just collecting dust in your closet. If so, you can help teen girls from Olive Crest attend the prom in style by participating in the Second Annual Sparkle & Share in-store dress drive. Bring your gently worn bridesmaid, cocktail and evening gowns to Robbins Brothers now through Sunday, April 27. Robbins Brothers in Glendale and Fullerton will host special parties in celebration of Sparkle & Share on Saturday, April 19, 11:00 a.m....

Some of the previous recipients have been Working Wardrobes, U.S. Veterans Offices, Women’s Shelter in Huntington Beach and more. Since The Orange County Ronald McDonald House is my favorite local charity, I am going to nominate them for the Minor Miracles program. The organization has significantly impacted my family when my son was born premature and ill. Since there are often children living in the home that are undergoing severe medical procedures, having carpets...

How to Help the Victims of the Boston Marathon

Posted by on Apr 28, 2013 in Giving Back, Uncategorized | 0 comments

I was in Boston at the time of the bombings. The bombings directly affected me, my family, my friends and my community. The bombings affects all of us in Boston and across the Country. As my phone continues to ring from friends living in different parts of the Country, the same question is asked of me, “How can we help the victims of the Boston Marathon?” The streets of Boston have always been alive with the spirit of history, commerce, family and community. If we the people are the lifeblood of America, these streets are the arteries that sustain and carry us. As I looked upon the blood-soaked streets of Boston this past April 15th, I am reminded of the horrors of a battlefield. My generation has never experienced war within our borders. I fear that has changed. What...

How OC Moms Can Help with The Tragedy in Boston

Posted by on Apr 16, 2013 in Events, Featured, Giving Back | 0 comments

The first thing that came to mind when hearing about the tragedy in Boston, was if my sister was safe. Since she lives and works in the city, I felt my heart stop when I got a text message from a friend telling me about the event. I was so grateful that she was safe, but heartbroken that so many we hurt, injured and had lost their lives. Immediately I wanted to find a way that I could help. Being that we live so far away, and there is not a lot that many of us can do to help – there is one way that we can all help. We can all take the time to give blood to the American Red Cross. Having a large amount of blood on hand is important, not just for this tragedy,...

Every six months we go to the dentist, and every time my youngest son Tyler has a cavity.
