Posted by on Nov 29, 2017 in Dining, Holiday, Thanksgiving | 0 comments

Sponsored Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year because it is the one holiday where I host all of our family and friends. This year was a little bit different for me because I had planned a major surgery to be the day before the holiday so that I would have my family home to help me with the recovery. Everyone in my family insisted that I cancel Thanksgiving, but after almost twenty years of hosting the holiday I looked for other options to make hosting easier, and that was when I learned about the Back Bay Bistro Thanksgiving to-go option. With Back Bay Bistro being the premier place for families to dine out on Thanksgiving, I knew that the to-go meal would not disappoint and that my family would be able to enjoy a delicious meal while...

37th Annual Dana Point Turkey Trot

Posted by on Dec 4, 2014 in Events, Fitness, Holiday, Thanksgiving | 0 comments

We ran as a guest of the Dana Point Turkey Trot I had the wonderful opportunity of running in the Dana Point Turkey Trot with two of my children on Thanksgiving morning this year. This was my first experience with this race and I was very pleased.   We arrived bright and early at 6:00am since I ran in the 10K that began at 7:00. Packet pick up was well-organized and we were able to get our shirts and race bibs without any trouble. The option for pick up the day before was there, but we weren’t able to make it then. Race morning pick up is a really nice option – especially for out-of-town racers. Since The Dana Point Turkey Trot is the #3 Thanksgiving Day destination according to Fodor’s Travel I’m sure they have plenty of racers coming...

Pomegranate Turkey Recipe

Why make a traditional turkey when you can surprise your guests with a unique turkey on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I love doing a unique twist on traditional holiday dishes, and this pomegranate turkey recipe was the hit of the holiday in our family last year. It is easy to make, and gives the turkey a sweet flavor that tastes just like eating candy. If you find yourself staring at the giant bird defrosted in your refrigerator wondering what to do with it…try making this fun new recipe. Ingredients: 1 turkey 1 cup of softened butter 1/4 cup of chopped rosemary 2 cups of pomegranate juice 4 large pomegranates 2 garlic cloves 3/4 cup of brown sugar 2 Tbl. honey 1/2 cup of orange juice 4 Tbl. olive oil Dash of salt and pepper Directions: In a food processor,...

Smart Parenting Strategies: How to Teach Children Gratitude

Posted by on Nov 23, 2014 in Family, Hot Topics, Parenting, Thanksgiving | 0 comments

The “G” word is heard over and over again each year during the holidays. And as adults, we understand the meaning of gratitude. But how do we teach children gratitude without the eye rolling or tuning out? Gratitude is defined by the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. According to Dr. Courtney Ball Harkins, Psy.D., marriage and family therapist and OC Mom Blog contributor, “Teaching your child gratitude is one of the best gifts you can give them. It is an essential task of raising a well adjusted, happy and healthy child. Grateful children are happier, and have a more positive view of themselves and others. These traits help fight against envy, jealousy, anger, depression and anxiety.” Here are a few practical strategies for teaching children gratitude: Active Parent Role Modeling This...

Posted by on Nov 20, 2014 in Crafts, Family, Giving Back, Holiday, Thanksgiving | 0 comments

Looking for an easy, fun fall craft to do with your kids that helps reinforce the message of gratitude this season? Each year, our family creates a “thankful tree.” My daughters look forward to writing their own messages of gratitude each day through Thanksgiving Day. Here’s what you’ll need to build the thankful tree: -Brown butcher or wrapping paper (long enough to make the trunk and branches) -Green butcher or construction paper (crown of the tree) -Foam turkey or pumpkin-shape cutouts (already pre-cut for easy application). Usually available at your local craft store, or you can pick up extra orange/brown construction paper and cut your own. -Tape or removable glue dots -Sharpie or washable marker -Scissors What to do: -Measure/estimate the area where you’ll place your tree (keep the tree in a central location, such as a kitchen or...

There are crafts, a hay maze, games, corn box, turkeys, and more! We brought our kids earlier this month to check out the festivities, and have the ultimate day of play with some of Orange County’s most beloved animals. We started the day by feeding the animals in the petting zoo area. The kids spent hours cuddling and feeding the guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens..that’s right..chickens! After the last carrot was fed it was time to run through the corn maze, dig in the corn box and play on the all-new playground. The new playground offers more room for kids to run, slide and play with their friends. Then it was time for our favorite...
