Lighthouse Park in Newport Beach

Posted by on Jan 27, 2016 in Featured, Newport Beach, Parks | 1 comment

One of the coolest new parks in Orange County also has one of the most epic ocean views right in the heart of the Peninsula in Newport Beach. Lighthouse Park (aka Marina Park) has one epic slide, sits right on the seaside and offers climbing galore. The minute that my kids spotted the park from the street, they were in awe. They could barely contain the excitement while found a parking spot. Parking for this park will be a challenge on the weekends (especially in the summer). There is a small parking lot, plenty of street parking, and a strip of parking spots along the water. I recommend bringing your bikes, finding parking further down the peninsula, and riding your bikes to the park on a busy summer afternoon. The park is unforgettable! There is a giant lighthouse that...

Newport Dunes Beach Playground

Posted by on Jul 27, 2014 in Beaches, Newport Beach, Newport Beach, Parks | 1 comment

When thinking about visiting Newport Dunes, many of us always automatically think about camping and swimming. Newport Dunes is so much more than just a camping destination including their incredible beach playground. The park is located just steps away from the parking lot, and is open all-year long..not just the summer! There are two-play structures, multiple small play equipment, swings and picnic tables. Did I mention there is also a giant whale sculpture for climbing? Oh yeah…there is! Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the multiple tables shaded by large trees. There is also a snack bar where kids can cool down with a yummy ice cream cone or enjoy a delicious sweet treat. Did I mention bathrooms? There are nice “clean” bathrooms located just steps away from the park. After your...

Las Arenas Park in Newport Beach

Posted by on Jan 22, 2014 in Newport Beach, Parks | 0 comments

I have many fond memories of playing at Las Arenas Park after leaving school from Newport Elementary on the Peninsula in Newport Beach. Although the park has become quite run down, it is still a favorite park for many locals on the Peninsula. What makes this park special is that it is just steps away from the beach. We will often bring our kids to play at this park after getting a dessert from the local Sambazon Cafe or make a stop when biking riding around the Peninsula. The park has a huge sand area (once a volleyball court), neighboring tennis courts, two play structures and swings. There is also a perfectly shaded bench for parents to enjoy watching their children play. I have to be honest that it is sad to see a lot of graffiti on the...

Guide to Visiting Newport Elementary Beach Playground

Posted by on Sep 21, 2013 in Beaches, Featured, Newport Beach, Newport Beach, Parks | 0 comments

There is nothing better than to load up the back of the car with the family bikes and head to the Balboa Peninsula to bike ride along the boardwalk. There are so many delicious beachside restaurants, parks to enjoy and of course – the ever famous fun zone. Every time that my family goes down to the Balboa Peninsula for a family bike ride, the kids always love making a stop at the Newport Elementary Beach Playground for some fun after an ice cream cone at the Stuft Surfer Cafe. During the weekdays this playground is used for the kids who attend Newport Elementary School, but during the weekends, families are encouraged to enjoy the premiere playground equipment right on the beach. There are two large playground structures, swings, basketball courts, and lots of small climbers. My kids love...

Guide to Peninsula Park Balboa in Newport Beach at The Pier

Posted by on Aug 18, 2013 in Featured, Newport Beach, Parks | 0 comments

After spending the day bike riding along the Balboa boardwalk, the kids took a break at the Peninsula Park located at the base of the pier at Balboa in Newport Beach. This intimate beach park offers fun for kids of all ages. The highlight of Peninsula Park is the giant “Spiderman” climbing structure that is similar to the one at Springdale Park in Aliso Viejo. This park is located right on the sand backing up to a large grass area that is perfect for weekend barbecues or picnics. There is plenty of parking in the public parking lot on the opposite side of the pier opening, and nice large bathrooms right next to the park. Where is it located? The park is located right at the base of the Balboa Pier at 100 Main Street in Newport Beach. The park...

Guide to Spyglass Hill Park in Newport Beach

Posted by on Aug 14, 2013 in Featured, Newport Beach, Parks | 3 comments

I lived just a couple of blocks from this part throughout my High School years, and it is *never* used. If you are looking for your own private park for a play date or birthday party – then this is your park. Spyglass Hill Park in Newport Beach has a small intimate playground with a huge grass area (mostly gated for safety). There are lots of benches and places to reflect on your day while the children enjoy playing on the playground equipment. Parking is never a problem at this park. There is plenty of parking along the streets. This park is at the top of a very steep hill, but if you are able to brave the challenge – there are multiple bike racks. The park is on the corner of a busy intersection, and most of it...

Guide to San Miguel Park in Newport Beach

Posted by on Aug 13, 2013 in Newport Beach, Parks | 0 comments

San Miguel Park in Newport Beach can be a little deceiving. From the street is looks like just a small tot lot, but once stepping foot on the park, families learn that it is one of the largest parks for families in Newport Beach. The park has something for everyone, and offers families an intimate park birthday party experience. The park has a huge basketball court for families to play a game. If you come early in the morning, there are usually “dad’s” playing on the courts, but come the afternoon they are pretty much vacant all day. Bring a racquetball, tennis ball or dodge ball for the dodgeball courts. This is one of my kids favorite features in this park. Be prepared for your kids to get nice and tired. There is a large grassy area located between...

Do you have a family who loves sports? Then you are going to love spending the day at the Bonita Canyon Sports Park in Newport Beach. Not only does this park have some of the most beautiful sports fields, but also has a lovely park for children to play. This park has become one of our favorite’s to visit in Newport Beach. The park has a larger playground, and this adorable interactive smaller tot lot. Kids can play, explore and learn on this tot lot. Then there are my kids favorites..the swings! The park has the swings located in-between the two playgrounds. The park has really nice upgraded water fountains. Forgot water? Not a problem! Oh..did I mention they have *nice* bathrooms too? Another plus!! One of the features that caught my attention were the interactive games modeled in...

Guide to The Fashion Island Koi Ponds in Newport Beach

Posted by on Aug 3, 2013 in Featured, Newport Beach, Parks, Shopping | 0 comments

I remember running around the Fashion Island Koi Ponds in Newport Beach as a young girl, and now I get to see myself through the eyes of my children running around the same pond. Growing up, our home was just a few blocks from Fashion Island, and my parents would sit and enjoy time with their friends while I watched the beautiful fish swim by. Koi is such a beautiful fish that can be so relaxing to sit and watch. My children could spend hours watching the Koi swim around the lily pads that float on the water in the majestic pond. The Koi pond is located right outside of Atrium Court in the center of Fashion Island. There are plenty of benches, tables and chairs for parents to relax and reflect while their children frolic and play. When...

Guide to Arroyo Park in Newport Beach

Posted by on Jul 23, 2013 in Featured, Newport Beach, Parks | 0 comments

We have driven past Arroyo Park in Newport Beach hundreds of times, but never taken the time to check it out – and boy were we missing a killer park. Located right off the 73 toll road is one of the coolest hidden parks in Newport Beach! Arroyo Park has a fun playground, a plethora of picnic tables, barbecues, and a large baseball field. Even a Highway Patrol Officer was caught enjoying his lunch at the park when we visited. So where is this killer park you ask? Right off the 73 freeway and Bison. The address on Google Maps is 1411 Bayswater, Newport Beach. (Right across from the Islands Restaurant) What is so cool about this park? There is plenty of parking – perfect for birthday parties! There is a nice playground, awesome bathrooms (I promise), and a...
