Posted by on Sep 26, 2017 in Disney, Recipes, Theme Parks | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of Disney There are many delicious treats available to enjoy at the Disneyland Resort during Halloween and Día de los Muertos. Along with delicious Día de los Muertos foods, families can capture a photo with the sugar skull car in front of Ramone’s Auto Body Shop in Disney California Adventure and see an ofrenda honoring Ramone’s late friend Doc Hudson. One of our favorite Día de los Muertos treats available at the Disneyland Resort this year is the Mickey Día de los Muertos Rice Krispy treat. While at Disneyland this year, we had the honor of getting a DIY tutorial on how to make a Mickey Día de los Muertos from one of the “sweetest” candy makers at Disneyland, Rob. In the video, Rob shows families how simple it is to make this delicious...

We attended as a guest of the venue Sail Ho!….there is a ship yonder, a SHIP, I tell you…shiver me timbers….it looks to be…..what…it CAN’T be….the Black Pearl?! “This is either madness or brilliance, and it’s remarkable how often these two traits coincide,” craftily said by Jack Sparrow. YES, it is the one and only Black Pearl! To our amazement, Disney has done it again. They’ve managed to bring the unthinkable to our entertainment fingertips. Announcing the exciting release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales on DVD and Blu-ray on October 3rd. Disney sprinkled this release with magic by bringing the Black Pearl to Santa Monica Beach last week. Much to our astonishment, the creators of Disney had secretly overnighted, this massive cargo load of a ship to this beach destination and dropped it off...

We attended a press preview as a guest of Disney Disney-Pixar’s COCO is a beautiful film that will immerse families in the Mexican culture as it tells the story behind the meaning of Día de los Muertos. The story is about a boy who is stuck between two worlds and is also a story about what it means to be a family. Before starting to work on the film, the filmmakers started with research. They made many trips to Mexico during Día de los Muertos to learn how the different regions embrace the cultural event. During Día de los Muertos, the souls of the dead are invited back to the land of the living. It is a grand family reunion where families are joyful, and get out into the streets, a beautiful tradition. The filmmakers used the traditions to...

Special Message to my kids from Ernie Sabella aka Pumbaa

Posted by on Sep 6, 2017 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

I visited as a guest of Disney I have had the honor of meeting many Disney legends over the years, but I had the most magical experience when meeting Ernie Sabella last month at Walt Disney World. Who is Ernie Sabella? He is not only one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, but also the voice of the beloved Pumbaa in the movie The Lion King. Normally, when I meet a celebrity at a media event, I usually get a photo opportunity and time to ask them some questions about the film they are currently promoting. It was very different when I first met Ernie Sabella. It was the first night that I had arrived at Walt Disney World, and I went to a special Lion King themed dinner that Sabella was attending. When I approached Ernie Sabella...

What Happened to the Baby Snow Leopards in Born in China

Posted by on Sep 4, 2017 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

I attended the interview as a guest of Disney The beautiful Disneynature film Born in China has been released recently on Blu-ray and digital download. While I was at Disney World last month, I had the extreme honor of talking with the creative genius behind the film Born in China, Roy Conli. Conli is well-known for his work on Big Hero 6, Tangled, and Born in China was his first time working on a Disneynature film. Everyone who sees the film is captivated by the story of the snow leopards. The beautiful animals live in a place where many humans could never survive, and the story that we followed in the movie exposed my children to how the snow leopards survive in their harsh climate. Since the movie has already been released in theaters and Blu-ray, many already know...

Three Reasons Teens Should Watch The Lion King

Now that I am a teenager, all of my friends want to watch the latest movie release, but I feel that we should also relive our love for childhood classics like the Lion King. Recently, I saw the Lion King for the first time as a teenager with my friends during a backyard movie night, and it was like seeing it for the first time. These are my three reasons why teenagers should watch the Lion King. The music. Almost every teenager loves music, and the Lion King has the best music ever. If you are like me and value music most when it comes to movies, then this...

How to Have and Epic Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Movie Night

Sponsored The time has finally come for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to be released on blu-ray and digital download with Disney Movies Anywhere. The movie is one of my kids all time favorites, and when it was released on blu-ray, I immediately got a copy of the film to add to our home movie collection. In celebration of the film release, I invited some of my kid’s friends over to our home for an epic Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 backyard movie night. I wanted the food to be themed after the film, but I didn’t have a lot of time to make themed dishes for the evening. Instead of making foods, I found food in our grocery store that was “space themed.” I got Sun Chips, Starburst, Milky Way, Eclipse gum, and Sunkist soda. When...

I was very busy leading up to the trip, and while I had a chance to read her extensive bio, I didn’t have an opportunity to look up her photo online. While I was enjoying breakfast with the group I was traveling with, the sweetest woman came over to the table and started to talk to us about Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and that was when it hit me – she was Anne Savage! I quickly learned that he is one of the most highly acclaimed animators of all-time and is known for his work on bringing Scar in The Lion King to life. While I was looking around the exhibit and admiring his work, there were drawings of lions that didn’t look familiar...

It felt like we were being told the story for the first time, the music was captivating, the imagery was breathtaking, and the story was magical. We recommend children and adults of all ages go to see Beauty and the Beast. It is in theaters starting today. This is our family review of the film Beauty and the Beast. Mom I didn’t think that Beauty and the Beast could have possibly gotten any better than the original, but I was wrong. Recipe courtesy of Disney Where’s the beef? It is at Disney California Adventure at the Food & Wine Festival. While eating my way through the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, I enjoyed many delicious bites. One of the highlights of the festival was the Beef Tenderloin Sliders at the Garlic Kissed kiosk. The slider packed a large amount of meat that was juicy, flavorful, and every carnivore’s dream come true. Sliders are one of my go-to recipes to make on a busy night after the kids have had after school activities, and I need to make dinner in a dash. I was thrilled to find out that Disney was willing to share their secret recipe to this family-friendly “perfect” weeknight meal with us. Let’s get cooking, and make these tasty sliders for our families tonight. Make plans...

We attended as a guest of Disney I’ll never forget the time that I saw Beauty and the Beast for the first time in theaters. It was in the winter of 1991, I was fifteen years old, and it was the first time that my parents let me go to a theater alone with my girlfriends. All I remember was being captivated by the music, falling in love with the characters, and realizing that true love really does exist. Flash forward over 25 years, and I find myself falling in love with the story all over again when watching the live action version in a Los Angeles theater. Only this time, I wasn’t the teenager, my two children sitting next to me were. I got to watch my fifteen-year-old son fall in love with the story just as much...

Guide to Have the Perfect Moana Movie Night

Posted by on Mar 6, 2017 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored Disney’s Moana is now available on digital download with Disney Movies Anywhere and will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD in stores starting tomorrow. One of our favorite family traditions is to have a movie night with friends when a new Disney movie is released to digital download or DVD/Blu-ray. During the summer, we have had many outdoor movie nights, and while we would have loved to have a Moana movie night as a “dive-in” movie at my in-laws pool, the rainy weather kept us indoors to celebrate the release of this magical Disney film. Although we couldn’t have the movie outdoors as we had wanted, we didn’t let that stop us from having an epic and unforgettable movie night with our friends and family. Once all the children were ready to watch the movie, we dimmed the...

Disney’s Moana Pua Cookies

Sponsored Disney’s Moana is one of my favorite animation movies of last year. I loved the story, the music, and the message behind the film. It wasn’t just me that loved the film, but also my children. When I found out that we could watch the film before it was released on DVD with Disney Movies Anywhere, I couldn’t wait to download it and start watching it with my children. Ever since downloading it, we have watched it over and over again. We decided to invite some friends over for a fun Moana movie night, and since Pua is my younger son’s favorite character, I made adorable “Pua Cookies.” The cookies were a hit with the children attending our party, and the kids devoured every last crumb of the cookies. I brought them out to the children during one...

5 Disneyland Hacks for Families with Young Kids

We attend as guests of the venue. There are very few places on earth that can compete with the Magic of Disneyland in the eyes of your little ones. The amazing rides, fun-filled experiences, and something new and exciting to see at every turn. But let’s face it, as a parent it can be overwhelming to navigate if you’re a Disneyland rookie going for the first time in awhile, or if you’re a well-traveled guest but going solo with a few kids in tow. I’ve done Disneyland alone with three young kids more times than I can count, and while it hasn’t always been all sunshine and smiling Mickey faces (what is with three small kids and their respective tantrum possibility?!), we’ve made memories that I hope they will recall well into their adult years.  I know I look back so fondly...

A nondescript building in Glendale, California houses an amazing collection of Disney animation art dating back to the 1920’s where the storyboard sketches and animation cells are painstakingly preserved in a protected environment. The actual name of this magical place is the Walt Disney Animation Research Library (the ARL). The occasion for this visit was the release of the Walt Disney animation classic, Pinocchio on Blu-ray (available in stores now). Posted by on Sep 26, 2016 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

We attended the screening as a guest of Disney There are few movies made that are powerful enough to change the way that one looks at life. When I first saw the Queen of Katwe at an early screening a couple of months ago, it impacted me in a way that I never thought was possible. Ever since seeing the movie, I couldn’t wait to bring my teenage daughter to see it, and I was beyond thrilled to share the story with her at the world premiere in Hollywood last week. Queen of Katwe is based on the real-life story of a young girl, Phiona Mutesi, living in poverty in Uganda. Along with her brother, she would go to the market to sell maize to earn money to help feed her family. One day, she stumbled upon a building...

It was just another day until I heard an email notification, and opened an email from Disney inviting a guest and me to attend the world premiere of the upcoming movie “The Queen of Katwe.” I was overwhelmed with excitement and spent the rest of my day watching the clock, awaiting the time my daughter was going to come home from school so that I could surprise her with the big news of being my guest to the premiere. When my daughter arrived home from school, and I told her the news, she squealed with delight. The first thing that she said to me was, “Wait – what are...

We attended the interview as a guest of Disney Moana is a 16-year-old girl who is passionate, outgoing, and adventurous. She is a Disney princess that girls around the world will admire and look up to after seeing the film. A lot of people came together to bring the character Moana to life, and we were given the incredible opportunity to meet with some of the people who played a role in creating Moana. Bill Schwab (Art Director, Characters) came on the film 3 1/2 years ago, and there was already design work done on the character. The staff at Disney does a lot of exploration when developing their main characters. “We are always exploring and trying to make our films feel unique. We went from cartoon to realistic. The Jungle Book Outdoor Summer Movie Night

Posted by on Sep 1, 2016 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

Sponsored One of our favorite things to do during the summer is to have an outdoor movie night, and with The Jungle Book coming out on Blu-ray and DVD just in time for the end of summer, that is exactly how we spent our last night of summer vacation. I used the digital download included with the movie and added the code to the Disney Movies Anywhere app on my cell phone. Then it was time for the fun to begin. I called all my kids closest friends and invited them over for our “wild” movie night. As the sun began to set, all of their friends started to arrive with their blankets and pillows. As soon as it got dark, our backyard grass was covered with blankets and children giggling with laughter. We had teddy graham and bananas...

Posted by on Aug 12, 2016 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

We attended the screening as a guest of Disney Pete’s Dragon tells a story of a local wood carver, (brilliantly played by Robert Redford), who has long been telling stories of a dragon who lives deep in the woods. His daughter, (Bryce Dallas Howard), is a forest ranger who stumbles across a young orphaned boy, Pete (Oakes Fegley) who has been living in the forest for the past six years and claims to live in the woods with a giant dragon. Here is my daughters’s and my reaction to the film. Mom Opinion As a parent you want to expose your children to movies that have life lessons they can take with them. Pete’s Dragon is a beautiful story of the bond between a young child and his dragon and the magic that is found in friendship and family....

We attended as a guest of Disney The minute that I received the invitation from Disney to walk the “green carpet” at the World Premiere of Pete’s Dragon, I squealed with delight. Pete’s Dragon is one of the first books that I read to my children, and I couldn’t wait to see how Disney would bring the story to life. Then there was the second most exciting part of getting the invitation, letting my daughter know that she was also invited to attend with me. I left little notes in her room that morning with hints of what the news was that I was going to surprise her. It didn’t take long for her to guess, and the first thing she said was, “What are we going to do with our hair?” I hugged her with all my might,...

I attended the interview as a guest of Disney Earlier this month, I was given the amazing opportunity to participate in discussions with the stars in the film “Pete’s Dragon,” Bryce Dallas Howard (Grace), Oakes Fegley, (Pete), and Oona Laurence, (Natalie). The relationship between Pete and Natalie plays a big part in the film. Fegley said that he felt that when Pete sees another little person, someone like himself, he is very curious about her and needs to explore this relationship.  Fegley continued to say, “In Pete’s mind, he is still five years old.”  For both Fegley and Laurence having to act opposite of something that wasn’t there was challenging at times but very interesting. Laurence said that they had seen a drawing of Elliott, but they were basically looking at a tennis ball on a stick most of the time. When...

Robert Redford on Developing His Character in Pete’s Dragon

Posted by on Aug 10, 2016 in Disney, Entertainment, Film | 0 comments

I attended the interview as a guest of Disney In the upcoming Disney film, Pete’s Dragon, Robert Redford is a wood carver named Meachum who is the only one in the town who claims to have once seen a magical dragon in the woods. Earlier this month, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to talk with Redford about his role in the upcoming movie. When it came to the part of Meachum, David Lowery (Director) was working on a project with Redford, and he decided to put the script in front of him.  Initially, Redford liked the story; however, he did not relate to the Meachum character. Meachum was written as this crazy old guy, and that is not how Redford saw him, so Lowery let Redford develop the character further. Lowery said that because the kids...

When I first saw the film earlier this year, I fell in love with it and have had the honor of seeing it multiple times along with interviewing the director, Steven Spielberg, and many of the actors including Mark Rylance and Penelope Wilton. I guarantee that this movie will touch you in the way that E.T. did and will be a classic that will be cherished forever. Here are our family reactions to the film: Mom Opinion I loved the movie. We attended the interview as a guest of Disney It’s been a long time dream of mine to meet the Queen of England, and earlier this month that dream became a reality when I sat down with the Queen of England in the upcoming movie “The BFG.” Along with spending time with Penelope Wilton “The Queen,” I also had the honor of meeting Rebecca Hall, who portrays Mary in the film. Wilton gave an Oscar worthy performance as The Queen in The BFG. If I had not already seen Wilton in previous films, I would have thought that she was the “real” Queen when first watching the movie. Spielberg had Wilton in mind when casting the part, and when they called her to see if she would be in the film, she immediately agreed. “If Steven Spielberg wants you...

We attended the interview as a guest of Disney Moments after interviewing Steven Spielberg and Ruby Barnhill, the talented Mark Rylance (The BFG) and Jemaine Clement (Fleshlumpeater) entered the room. Rylance walked into the room with the same crooked walk that The BFG had in the film, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with him the moment that I met him just like I did when I first saw The BFG. Not only did Rylance have the same walk as The BFG, but he looked so much like the character in real life. When getting ready for filming, he said, “Every morning it took about an hour and a half of them sticking glow in the dark marbles on us and battery packs. Then about 45 minutes of having dots painted on your face which looked like...

It was a surreal experience as I slowly walked down the carpet with camera lights flashing, and journalist calling out the names of the actors they were seeking to interview. Along with my friend Yolanda, I took my time to take pictures in front of the giant “The BFG” signs to capture every magical memory. Once the last photo had been taken, we walked into The Hard Rock Cafe where a festive party...

I was so excited while on my way to the event at the El Capitan. The story Pete’s Dragon had always been one of my favorites as a child, and I was looking forward to hearing David’s take on this beloved classic from my childhood. The 1977 version of Pete’s Dragon centers on the adventure of an orphaned boy and his magical dragon. This reimagined version of Pete’s Dragon still centers on the friendship and adventures of an orphaned boy and his friend, Elliott, who is also a 20-foot dragon. David Lowery showed us five scenes...
