Big Bear Alpine Zoo Flashlight Safari

Posted by on Oct 9, 2017 in Big Bear, Events, Travel | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue During the month of October, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo is welcoming families to bring their flashlights for an unforgettable flashlight safari. The special event is happening on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the month of October, and it is a great reason to plan a weekend getaway up to the mountains. Since my children love animals and learning about animals, I planned a weekend getaway to Big Bear this past weekend to experience the flashlight safari. We went to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo around 5:30 pm in our beautiful Kia K900. We were dressed in warm clothes, and there was a ton of families eagerly waiting to get into the zoo for the flashlight safari. The zoo divided families into small groups and welcomed everyone into the zoo one...

Big Bear Horseback Riding

Posted by on Jan 7, 2017 in Big Bear, Travel | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue Did you know that you can go horseback riding in Big Bear? Yes! This mom of adventure had no idea. I’m here to tell you; it is such an amazing way to take in the mountains! Recently, I was with a group of friends visiting Big Bear, and while a few of us had been on a horse in the past year, some of us hadn’t in about ten years. So we were happy to discover that we could have a guide join us who knew the trail and the behaviors of each horse. Collectively, we were ready to do this and trust our horses to lead the way. Baldwin Lake Stables in Big Bear pairs each rider with the perfect horse; based on an individual’s body type and experience. I...

Trick-or-Treat Extravaganza at Big Bear Lake

Posted by on Oct 8, 2015 in Big Bear, Halloween, Holiday, Travel | 0 comments

This year Halloween is on a Saturday, which makes it an ideal time to get away with the little tykes for a grand “trick or treat” extravaganza in the mountains. On Halloween night, Big Bear Village becomes extensively decorated with jack-o-lanterns, cobwebs, flying bats, strobe lights, and other gadgets and gimmickry to create a “frightfully” fun Halloween experience. New this year is a unique display of scarecrows scattered throughout Big Bear Village that adds to the festive atmosphere. The streets of Big Bear Village shut down and transform into a massive gathering of goblins, ghouls, witches, princesses, super heroes and presidential candidates. More than 100 village merchants hand out thousands of dollars worth of candy and other goodies to “trick or treaters.” Village merchants created this event to ensure a safe and secure environment for families to enjoy the...

We visited as a guest of Big Bear This weekend is the perfect weekend to plan a day at Big Bear Lake to admire the fall foliage and tour local homes during the Hearth and Home Tour. It is the 36th year of the Hearth and Home Tour where local families will open their homes to the public to enjoy and admire their lavish decor. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3rd from 9 am to 3 pm. Four different homes will be available for guests to tour that will be themed as “Fall Harvest,” “Thanksgiving,” “Old-Fashioned Holiday,” and “Christmas.” We had a unique opportunity to tour two of the homes prior to the annual event. The “Christmas” themed house is one of the most beautifully decorated holiday homes we have had the pleasure of visiting. There...

Seven Oaks Mountain Resort

Posted by on May 6, 2014 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 7 comments

Seven Oaks Mountain Resort is a little gem of a campground located half way up Hwy 38 (the back way) to Big Bear. It boasts hiking, biking, fishing and is close enough to take an easy drive up to the mountain or the lake.  It is perfect for a great family camping experience! Seven Oaks is a small, low-key campground offering only about 40 spots. It is located along the Santa Ana River and about half the sites are riverfront sites so close to the water that you will fall asleep listening to the rush of the river down the bank. While being a small campground and having a lot to offer, it is surprisingly easy to reserve a spot, which is seeming more and more rare for campgrounds in California! The sites are spacious, and accommodate, car, tent...

Travel Tuesday: Big Bear Alpine Slide

Posted by on Feb 4, 2014 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of Big Bear Lake With a chill in the air, it is finally starting to feel like winter in Orange County. When the weather starts to get cold, I can’t help but start craving a trip to the mountains. One of our favorite family activities at Big Bear is to visit the Alpine Slide. The Alpine Slide is one of the biggest slides that my family has even gone on before, and the ultimate family mountain experience. Once your family arrives at the Alpine Slide and purchases your tickets, you’ll get to board a ski lift that will bring your family to the top of a giant mountain. Once at the top of the mountain, take a moment to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views before jumping into your sled for the experience of a...

Stanfield Marsh Wildlife Preserve at Big Bear Lake

Posted by on Dec 28, 2013 in Big Bear, Travel | 0 comments

Planning a trip to Big Bear? One of our favorite discoveries while visiting Big Bear last month was the Stanfield Marsh Wildlife Preserve. When we first arrived at Big Bear Lake, we searched reviews on Yelp to help find the best trail to take the children hiking. There were so many options, but this trail appeared to be the most enticing. When we arrived at the Stanfield Marsh Wildlife Preserve, the children were immediately in love! We parked the car, and from the moment that we stepped out of the car, we were swept into a world rich in beautiful nature and wildlife. The kids took the time to climb on the giant rocks while my husband and I took a moment to take in the beauty that surrounded us. Then it was time to explore! The kids...

Ultimate Big Bear Family Staycation with Gold Rush Resort Rentals

Posted by on Dec 8, 2013 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 0 comments

Sponsored Want to plan a family staycation in Big Bear? Don’t know where to stay? We have found the ultimate place to have a Big Bear family staycation with Gold Rush Resort Rentals. When planning our weekend staycation, we wanted the kids to have a traditional mountain getaway. Gold Rush Resort Rentals made planning our weekend effortless, and helped with finding the cabin that was perfect for our family needs. We started by going online and researching all the different cabins that they have available to rent. Since we were expecting a major snow storm that didn’t quite deliver the amount of snow were were hoping for, we picked the “Gold Rush” cabin because it has its own personal sledding hill along the side of the cabin. When we arrived in the mountains, we went to their office where...

Gold Rush Mining Adventures at Big Bear

Posted by on Dec 5, 2013 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 0 comments

Sponsored While staying in Big Bear last week, we rented a cabin from Gold Rush Cabin Rentals. When we checked in at the office to get our keys to the cabin, the kids immediately noticed the signage for their interactive Gold Rush Mining Adventures. We made a reservation for the next day for the kids to learn about the mining history of Big Bear while getting to mine for their own special precious gems and stones. The kids started their adventure by picking out the stones that they wanted to discover. There was a large variety including minerals, fossils and geodes from all over the world. Once they got all their mining supplies together, it was time to go outside to the giant water wheel to start mining. Before the kids put their mining pans into the water –...

Snow Play and Tubing in Big Bear

Posted by on Dec 3, 2013 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 0 comments

It was our first time visiting Big Bear, and one thing that I could not wait to do was some snow play and tubing. I had no idea what to expect when first riding the covered lift to the top of the mountain, but the minute that I got into that giant tube, and headed down the hill, I had the time of my life. There were three giant hills, and each of the hills, had a different speed. We went down all connected as a family, with a kiddo on my lap, and lots of times alone. What I thought would just be a short hour experience, we ended up spending over four hours riding the tubes. It was one of the most unforgettable memories of our weekend trip to Big Bear, and we cannot wait to...

Big Bear Zoo

Posted by on Nov 25, 2013 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 0 comments

My children love animals. We have more animals than people currently living in our house because the kids have such a passion and love for animals. When planning our recent weekend getaway to Big Bear, the Big Bear Zoo was #1 on our places to visit. The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is much more than just a traditional zoo and is also an animal rehabilitation center. It is the only zoological facility in San Bernardino County, and the only zoo in the United States that specializes in alpine wildlife. They are currently providing care and shelter for approximately 160 non-releasable orphaned and injured wildlife representing over 89 species including Grizzlies, Foxes, Cats, Raccoons, Reptiles, Wolves and Black Bears. The moment that my kids walked into the zoo – they did not want to leave. My son spent most...

Grays Peak Trailhead is the Best Place for Free Big Bear Sledding

Posted by on Nov 24, 2013 in Big Bear, Featured, Travel | 3 comments

After spending the weekend in Big Bear, we cannot wait to return. Since we are always going up to the mountains for day trips during the winter season, we have always found the biggest challenge is finding a safe and free place for the kids to sled for a couple of hours. Before heading down the hill from our weekend getaway, we scouted out some future places to go sledding on day trips, and found that the Grays Peak Trailhead is the best place for free Big Bear Sledding. Reason #1 There is a large parking lot. Families don’t have to worry about parking along a busy street with the fear of the kids getting hit by a car when trying to exit the vehicle. If your kids are anything like mine – they are so excited to...
