One of the most popular destinations for families visiting Catalina Island to have a beach day is the Descanso Beach Club. The beach club has everything that families could desire for a family beach day. There are cabana rentals, luxurious beach chair rentals, kayaks, snorkel gear, turquoise water and ocean front dining. The beach club offers a complimentary shuttle from downtown making it easier for families to visit. Once you’re at the beach club, it is complimentary to sit on the beach surrounding the cove. The cabanas and beach chairs are available at an additional charge, and we recommend reserving them in advance (especially on weekends, summer and holidays). We arrived at the beach club after spending the first part of our visit touring the island on a golf cart. We found a table at the restaurant right on...

One of our favorite things we did while spending the day at Catalina Island was visiting The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Gardens. While it was HOT on the island, it didn’t stop us from exploring this gem of the island. We arrived via our golf cart which I recommend vs. walking. Once we paid our admission, and purchase water, we were in for a magical treat. There were hundred of plants, trees and cactus’ for the kids to explore throughout the gardens. The kids were able to learn about the different plants, their origin, and details about the plants. Every plant featured its own informational plaque making it a wonderful educational opportunity for my children. At the end of the gardens was the historical monument. Our children listened to the echo of their footsteps as they walked up the...

Want to bring the kids to Catalina? Wondering how to get the most out of your day trip? We have recently spent the day exploring Catalina Island and were able to experience most of Catalina in just one day. Tickets to the island are available from the Catalina Flyer (Newport Beach) and the Catalina Express (Long Beach, Dana Point). We were able to get discounted Groupon tickets through Craigslist to ride the flyer only costing us $50 for a four tickets! When you first get off the boat, you’ll want to rent a golf cart. Do not go to the first stand with the white carts. They are more expensive and take cash only. Walk a little bit further to Catalina Island Golf Cart Rental & Tours (blue golf carts). Tell them that you want the buy two hours...
