Dining In the Vineyards at Welk Resorts and Spa in San Diego

Posted by on Jul 7, 2015 in Dining, Featured, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

We attended as a guest of the resort Before there was Donny and Marie, even before there was Sonny and Cher… there was Lawrence Welk. the legendary host of his own self named variety show, which launched in 1951 and aired for three decades. While best known as an entertainer and big band he also became the owner of what is now Welk Resorts and Spa in the early 80’s. Recently, we were invited to dine “under the stars” in the Lawrence Welk Vineyard in Escondido at the Welk Resorts and Spa and celebrate Welk’s new craft beer and wines produced in collaboration with partners Iron Fist Brewing Co. and Belle Marie Winery. A stay at one of the resort’s villas following the tasting was included in the invitation, thankfully! Join us on a photo tour of his resort...

Mission San Antonio de Pala

Posted by on Jun 29, 2015 in California Missions, Featured, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

While having a little weekend getaway in San Diego, we stopped at the beautiful Mission San Antonio de Pala. The mission is very close to the Pala casino and is only accessible by a small dirt road. When we pulled off the main road to visit this hidden gem, our children were amazed by the beauty of this mission. It was founded in 1816 by Fr. Antonio Peyri. It was very prosperous and received more than 1300 Indian converts until the beginning of its decline after the secularization by the Mexican government in 1846. Partially restored in 1903, the restoration of the original quadrangle was complete in 1959. The mission is the only one of the original California missions still ministering to Native American People. (source: Mission San Antonio De Pala) The mission is gorgeous and full of...

Momcation at Harrah’s Resort Southern California

Posted by on May 11, 2015 in Featured, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

We stayed as a guest of the resort As Moms, we are always working. Driving carpool, cooking dinner, doing homework – our job is never done. The best thing that I have found to be the best Mother and wife is to take the time to care for myself. At least twice a year, I plan a weekend getaway, leaving all the stresses of parenting behind to focus on myself and inner healing. With Mother’s Day happening this month, I surprised by Mom by taking her with me on my “Momcation” to Harrah’s Resort Southern California in San Diego. I left my husband behind with the kids for the weekend and picked up my Mom for the ultimate weekend getaway. Being a food lover at heart I planned to stay at Harrah’s for the 2nd Annual Latin Food &...

The Amazing Cape Rey

Posted by on May 6, 2015 in Carlsbad, Featured, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

We stayed as a guest of the property I love weekend getaways, especially ones that are local.  One of my favorite spots to relax and unwind in is only 35 minutes south of Orange County. Now you’re probably thinking San Diego is more like 50 minutes south, but unbeknownst to most people there are amazing beach cities between Orange County and South San Diego County.  When people think San Diego they think downtown, La Jolla, Balboa Park, and Mission Bay, what they tend to forget about are the North San Diego County cities of Solana Beach, Encinitas and my favorite Carlsbad. I’d rather not share about the best kept secret, aka the gem of San Diego County (in my opinion), but since I already started I might as well let the cat out of the bag.  Why is Carlsbad...

A Fabulous Day at The Flower Fields

Posted by on Apr 17, 2015 in Events, Featured, San Diego, Staycation, Travel | 1 comment

We visited as a guest of the Flower Fields My husband, son and I visited The Flower Fields in Carlsbad. We were there as part of a special media tour. It was very fun and informative. We learned many new things about The Flower Fields that we had never known before today. These things were shared by Paul Ecke III (the Ecke Family started the flower fields) and also by the General manager of The Flower Fields Fred Clark. Our Journey through The Flower Fields started on an antique tractor ride. Once we boarded the tractor our tour began. We headed towards the field furthest away from the tractor start. The Ranunculus are planted sequentially so that the first bloom start all the way on the field to the left and then move towards the right as the weeks...

Street Performer Fun at Balboa Park in San Diego

Posted by on Mar 28, 2015 in San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

Believe it or not one of the highlights for our kid’s when visiting Balboa Park in San Diego was watching the different street performers. We spent almost as much time watching the various performances along the sidewalk that runs between the different museums as we did inside of the museums. While our kids watched the different performers, they were invited to participate in some of the live street shows. My kids smiled from ear to ear while watching people juggle, play music and dance amongst the visitors at the park. When the kids were not watching the performers, they were taking their shoes off and frolicking in the cool fountain along with other children or climbing on the different art sculptures. Balboa Park isn’t just a great place for museums and dining but also entertainment. I encourage families...

Balboa Park Historic Carousel

Posted by on Mar 27, 2015 in San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

Take your kids for a ride on the historic Balboa Park Carousel. This carousel has been delighting children since 1910 and still has all of it’s original hand-carved European animals. The carousel is one of the few in the world that still has the classic brass ring game. Classic band music plays as children ride in circles on their favorite animal while being surrounded by beautiful hand-painted murals. It is located at Balboa Park directly outside of the OC Zoo gates. The ride lasts for five minutes and is $2.50 per ticket or $10 for 5 tickets (all adults riding must have a ticket with babies under the age of one ride free). After your children ride the carousel there is also a small animal swing ride and train rides available just a few feet away. Location: 2920...

One of the highlights for children visiting Balboa Park or the San Diego Zoo is taking a ride on the Balboa Park Miniature Railroad. Children can ride on the miniature railroad along a long windy track surrounded by giant animal sculptures, lush green foliage and more. Before leaving Balboa Park, we ended our visit to the area by taking our kids on a train ride. The kids laughed and giggled as the train made its away along the track throughout Balboa Park. The train ride is about three minutes and goes on a 1/2 mile trip through four acres of the park. There are only 50 currently models of this train remaining, and your kids can ride on it today at Balboa Park in San Diego. Location: 1800 Zoo Place San Diego, CA 92101 Hours: Open DAILY, 11am...

Climb the California Tower at the Museum of Man

Posted by on Mar 25, 2015 in Featured, Museums, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

When I learned that the California Tower at the Museum of Man was opening to the public for the first time since 1935, I could not wait to bring our children to be a part of history. Families get to go up a staircase that has been hidden from the public to get a glimpse of history and spectacular San Diego views. When we first arrived to climb the tower all of the tickets had been sold out, and we were lucky to get tickets for the last tour the following day. It is important when planning a visit to purchase your tour tickets in advance (there are limited amounts of tickets available each day). Since I am deathly afraid of heights, I spent time exploring the Museum of Man while my husband took the kids on the...

The Discovery of King Tut at the San Diego Natural History Museum

Posted by on Mar 24, 2015 in Museums, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

It is a great time to plan a visit to the San Diego History Museum with the arrival of The Discovery of King Tut exhibit. The west coast premiere of the exhibit will only be at the museum until April 26th, and it will take your kid’s on an in-depth journey into the discovery of King Tut’s tomb. When planning to visit the exhibit, families need to plan at least 2-3 hours to discover and learn (and an additional couple of hours to explore the rest of the museum). The journey begins with a video that uncovers how the tomb of King Tut was discovered. Then the audio receivers guide your family through the three-level exhibit uncovering a world of knowledge and learning. The kids were not the only ones who enjoyed learning during our visit but also...

San Diego Air and Space Museum at Balboa Park

Posted by on Mar 23, 2015 in Museums, San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

San Diego is home to some of the most amazing museums with most of them centrally located in Balboa Park. When planning a weekend getaway to San Diego, we spent most of our time at museums, and the San Diego Air and Space Museum was one of our kid’s favorites. The museum is full of large scale plane models, artifacts, educational experiences and more. Parking is always a challenge in Balboa Park, but they have multiple parking lots located throughout the park. Getting around the large park is easy for families with the complimentary tram that runs every 10 minutes. The tram takes families from the parking lots to the museum or the restaurant of their choice. Once your family arrives at the museum, your children can spend hours learning about space and planes. They can climb into...

The hotel is conveniently located near hotel circle within a short distance from Sea World, Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. Five Reasons to Visit to the Birch Aquarium in San Diego

Posted by on Feb 26, 2015 in San Diego, Travel | 0 comments

Last summer our family took a trip to the beautiful state of California with one of our stops being sunny San Diego. I had done some research beforehand on The Birch Aquarium at Scripps and decided that would be a perfect educational hands-on experience during our visit. Besides, the aquarium’s interactive exhibits would encourage not only children, but adults as well, to really open their minds and think while having fun. Birch Aquarium is north of San Diego, located in La Jolla, California and is filled with interesting exhibits and home to captivating sea dragons, creatures so fascinating you could spend hours just watching them alone. At the aquarium you can watch the creatures being fed (which is always a good time) and actually touch some of them in the outdoor Tide Pool. We found this to be very...

We stayed as a guest of Paradise Point Paradise is not a plane ride away, and can be found just an hour drive down the coast in San Diego. Over the summer, our family created incredible family memories at the waterfront resort, Paradise Point. While at the resort, we truly felt like we were on a tropical island enjoying water sports, activities, and more. When we first arrived at the resort, we were greeted with refreshing lemon flavored water and accommodating staff members who took us to our bungalow on a luxurious golf cart. After being personally guided to our weekend hideaway, we were given the key to paradise. The waterfront bungalow featured enough room for our growing family of five to have a relaxing weekend together in San Diego. It had a large bedroom, family room, two bathrooms,...

Our kids love the ocean, and we knew that they would love the opportunity to learn how to surf while on our summer staycation. When we checked into the resort, the staff gave our children a souvenir tote filled with all the necessary paperwork, release forms, towels and tickets for the ferry ride across the bay. The kids bursted with excitement when receiving the information, and could not wait until the following day to begin their surfing lessons. The morning of their surfing lessons, the kids put on their favorite swim gear and walked to the docks to ride the ferry to the Mission Bay Aquatic Center....

The Duck Dive is a Must When Visiting San Diego

Posted by on Jul 4, 2014 in Dining, San Diego | 1 comment

We dined as a guest of Duck Dive My husband and I packed up the kids and traveled South to San Diego for a long weekend for some much needed relaxation.  Besides lounging poolside, I always look forward to a few amazing dinners out and I was thrilled to have been invited to Duck Dive in Pacific Beach. Upon arrival, I was excited to see the restaurant had a typical beachy feel with huge wide open windows and a casual appearance.  We had reserved a large table to accommodate our family, we were seated right away next to one of those huge windows I mentioned that over looked the bustling street.  The service was amazing! Everyone was helpful, friendly and prompt in menu suggestions and delivery.  I’ll admit, I’m new to the Moscow Mule craze, and I giggled with delight over the...
