Angels Gate Park: Korean Bell of Friendship

Posted by on Aug 24, 2018 in San Pedro, Travel | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of San Pedro One of the highlights of my visit to San Pedro was going to Angels Gate Park where there is the Korean Bell of Friendship. The massive bell was donated in 1976 by the People Republic of Korea to honor the veterans of the Korean War and symbolizes the friendship between the two countries. The bell weighs 17 tons, twelve feet tall, seven and a half feet in diameter, and is made of copper and tin, with gold, nickel, lead and phosphorous. The Korean Bell of Friendship sits in the center of Angels Gate Park overlooking the beautiful coastline. It is in the center of a gorgeous pagoda stone structure that is supported by twelve columns representing the twelve designs of the Oriental zodiac. The bell is rung only four times each...

The Historic Warner Grand Theatre

Posted by on Aug 16, 2018 in San Pedro, Theatre, Travel | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue One of my favorite things that we did when exploring San Pedro was visiting the Warner Grand Theatre. I am a little bit of a history and architecture nerd, and the minute that the trolley stopped in front of the historic theatre, I was in love. The Warner Grand Theatre opened on January 20, 1931, and was built by the distinguished team of architect B. Marcus Priteca and the artist Anthony Heinsbergen (the same team that designed the Hollywood Pantages). The theatre features some exemplary aspects of art deco like: lines, steps, sweeping curves as well as chevron patterns and the sunburst motifs. The finest examples in the Warner Grand are on the auditorium ceiling and the mezzanine ceiling. This Theatre’s design has been called “Neo-byzantine.” The theatre looks just as...

Coffee by the Sea at Siren’s Java & Tea in San Pedro

Posted by on Aug 14, 2018 in Dining, San Pedro, Travel | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue We started our day exploring San Pedro by visiting the popular local coffee shop, Siren’s Java & Tea. The coffee shop is located in the heart of downtown San Pedro and offers a variety of unique coffee creations and breakfast pastries. One of my favorite things about Siren’s Java & Tea is the ambiance. There are many tables, chairs, couches located throughout the coffee shop for families to relax and reconnect. My friend, Anita and I, found a table in the back of the coffee shop where we enjoyed catching up while sipping on a warm cup of coffee. I had heard that they are well known for their “Mermaid Kiss” coffee, and while I am not one for sweet coffee drinks, I couldn’t resist ordering a cup. The coffee featured...

Cool Craft Brews at Brouwerij West in San Pedro

Posted by on Aug 13, 2018 in Dining, San Pedro | 0 comments

We visited as a guest of the venue The summer temperatures were rising while we were busy exploring San Pedro, making it the perfect time to stop into Brouwerij West for a refreshing taste of their craft beers. What I love about Brouwerij West is that they have a large indoor and outdoor venue complete with food trucks, making it a family-friendly brewery. We had just finished supporting local artisans by shopping at the neighboring Crafted and then walked over to Brouwerij West. The minute that we walked into the brewery, we immediately felt relaxed. There were many tables available, twinkling lights, and friendly staff. I have to admit that I have never been much of a beer drinker, but recently I have found some craft beers that I’ve quite enjoyed. I went into the craft beer tasting with...
