Celebrate Mother’s Day at Sea

We dined as a guest of the venue

One of my favorite ways to celebrate Mother’s Day is being close to the ocean. This year, my husband gave me the gift of taking me out for a romantic Hornblower dinner cruise in Newport Harbor, and it was one of the best Mother’s Day gifts I have ever received.

We had recently gone on a Hornblower brunch cruise, and my husband knew how much I enjoyed that afternoon. Last weekend, he told me to get dressed up, and we were going out somewhere special to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The minute that we arrived at the Hornblower dock in Newport Beach, I was overwhelmed with delight. I couldn’t wait to experience Hornblower at night. We walked up to the boat where the staff took a commemorative photo, and the captain welcomed us to board the ship.

Once we boarded the boat, the staff handed us a glass of champagne and guided us to our private table. We made a toast in celebration of our love for each other, and the beautiful children that we are raising.

Before dinner, we went to the bow of the boat at watched the sunset over the crystalline waters. The sky was painted with beautiful colors, making it an unforgettable sunset to watch.

Then the captain blew the horn, and the boat set sail. Our server brought over a basket of bread and butter for us to begin our meal and took our drink orders for the evening. The artisan bread was paired with a delicious garlic and herb cheese spread and a cilantro pesto sauce – I am still craving more of that butter.

Next, we were served a crisp house salad. The salad was light, fresh, and delicious. It featured crisp romaine hearts, cherry tomatoes, parmesan cheese and radicchio with a creamy caesar dressing. It was the perfect start to our dinner.

The main course featured two dishes. We began with the panko-crusted salmon with a miso honey glaze paired with seasonal vegetables. Following the salmon, we enjoyed every bite of the captain’s beef short ribs with a chipotle port wine sauce.

When it came time for dessert, the DJ started playing some energetic music, and everyone started dancing on the dance floor. We savored our delectable desserts and then danced the night away.

It was an evening that I didn’t want to end, and I will remember forever. Hornblower Dinner Cruises is now my favorite way to have a romantic evening out with my husband in celebration of a special event.

When looking for something fun, romantic, and unique to do for Mother’s Day, surprise Mom with the gift of brunch or dinner on a Hornblower Dinner Cruise. It is guaranteed to be a dining experience that she will never forget.
