Chef… a Feast for the Eyes

disclosure

If like me, cooking is your passion, you are in for a treat with the soon to be released movie, Chef, written and directed by Jon Favreau. Last week, my sister, Shan and I attended an advance screening which thankfully started outside of the screening room at The Stouffer’s Mac ‘N’ Cheese Food Truck, where we sampled a variety of mac ‘n cheeses prepared by Chef Luciene Vendome.

I say “thankfully”, because going to this movie hungry is a big mistake… you will not make it through it as Chef Carl Casper, played by Favreau, serves up one mouthwatering dish after the next. It’s a feast for the eyes and you can almost taste everything through the screen. Favreau is completely convincing in his role as a chef and looks to be a natural. A little digging and I discovered he trained with Roy Choi, the founder of Kogi BBQ Taco Truck & Catering as well as with Wolfgang Puck. Apparently he is a quick study.

Chef tells the story of how Carl Casper finds inspiration that reignites his passion for his craft after a blowout with the owner of his restaurant leaves him jobless. While reclaiming his creativity, Chef Casper works to rebuild his relationships with the young son and ex-wife he has emotionally abandoned.

The all-star cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara, Robert Downey Jr., Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris and 10 year old, Emjay Anthony who plays Chef Casper’s son. Emjay has also starred in It’s Complicated as Alec Baldwin’s step-son, Pedro and was thoroughly charming as he introduced the film at the screening. We’ll be looking out for him in future roles.

This comedy will leave you feeling uplifted… and hungry! So a word of advice, make a reservation at your favorite restaurant to follow the movie because the first thing you will want to do after you see this is eat something amazing.

Chef opens May 9 and is Rated R. Here’s the official trailer.
