Cinderella Ballet at the Irvine Barclay Theatre

We attended as a guest of the venue

Cinderella is a classic fairy tale, and it also happens to be one of my favorite fairy tales ever. I have seen Cinderella in many different forms of production including musical theater, ballet, hip-hop, movies, etc. But, I think ballet is one of my favorite forms to watch this story told is through ballet. I have seen many ballets of Cinderella before, and they were all amazing, but seeing it performed by the Maple Conservatory of Dance at the Irvine Barclay Theatre & Cheng Hall has one has to be one of my favorites.

I already knew I was going to like it when I started reading the program and saw a few familiar names. As soon as the first act started, I was immersed in an entirely different version of Cinderella. Of course, it still had the same storyline, but something was different. They mixed the original Cinderella story with the Disney version of the story.

What made this show so amazing to me was the costumes. Every single outfit you saw looked as if it fit the dancer perfectly and went perfectly with the act they were dancing in. My personal favorite was the dancer who represented the clock and had a beautiful black and white costume with numbers to show the amount of time Cinderella had left. Another one of my favorites was that the Cinderella dress wasn’t blue. It was a pretty shade of nude yellow. That definitely took me by surprise, but the dress was still so beautiful.

Every role in the ballet was portrayed by a fantastic dancer. I don’t think there was one dancer in the production that looked out of place or didn’t know what was going on. Even when the little kids were brought out on stage to dance they all looked so professional and didn’t forget any movements which really brought the whole thing together.

Although this was only a one-day ballet performance at the Irvine Barclay Theatre & Cheng Hall has impressive shows year-round. This production was my first production at the Irvine Barclay Theatre & Cheng Hall, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

If you have a child who loves to dance, I highly recommend learning more about the Maple Conservatory of Dance.
