How To Complete Your Outfit With Jewelry

Fashion icon Coco Chanel once said that ‘before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.’ That’s because she knew that a great outfit is more than just clothes, it’s hair, make-up, accessories, and jewelry.

But just how do you choose the perfect jewelry to go with any outfit?

Balance occasion with your own personal style

Sometimes you can go all out on the glamour, and other times you may need to be a little more understated. Try and bring your own style to the sense of occasion.

If you’re at a wedding or a party, then you can afford to go a little more ostentatious with your selection. Thinks statement stones, helix earrings, and bracelets.

Complement colors

The most beautiful piece of jewelry in the world isn’t going to look as good as it could when it’s paired with the wrong outfit. Think of colors when you are choosing. For example, if you’re wearing a very colorful outfit, clashing colors of stones isn’t going to work.

If you’re wearing darker or more muted colors, then you can afford to be a little more daring with the color of your jewelry.

Look at necklines when choosing necklaces

You don’t want to risk your necklace overshadowing the line of your dress. It can make everything look very unbalanced.

Unless you’re wearing a polo-neck, or going for a long pendant effect, then a necklace should usually sit a few inches above the neckline of your outfit. If your neckline is quite complicated, with stitching or sequins, then keep the necklace fairly plain. The opposite is also true. If your neckline is simple and uncomplicated, then wear a necklace that is more of a statement.

Complement your skin tone

You generally choose make up and clothes based on how well they go with your skin tone, but do you do the same with your jewelry. The colour of metal you choose, and the type of stone need to work well with your particular skin tone.

For example, people with very pale skin, often don’t suite yellow gold unless they have a darker hair colour.

When putting an outfit together, think about what you’re wearing, your skin tone and hair colour as a whole.

Less is more

Remember that advice from Coco Channel? Don’t feel like you need to overdo it on the jewelry. A few key pieces make far more of an impact than wearing every piece of jewelry you own.

Know when to break the rules

You know your own style better than anyone. And sometimes rules are meant to be broken. While it’s good to stick to some rules, experimenting with your look is something that you should do until you find something you’re happy with.

Final thoughts

Styling an outfit with jewelry seems to come easier to some than others. If you’re struggling for ideas, then keep these tips in mind the next time you’re choosing an outfit. You’ll have found your signature style before you know it.
