Counting Down the Days Until OC Children’s Holiday Business Fair

This is the third in a series of posts following the path of two young entrepreneurs, 7-year-old Johnny and his 11-year-old sister, Cali, as they prepare to produce, market and sell jalapeno poppers at the OC Children’s Holiday Business Fair, which will be held at Orange County Rescue Mission’s Village of Hope on Saturday, November 2, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

The Fair will feature unique booths hosted by students from local elementary and middle schools as well as children living at Village of Hope. All participants are between the ages of 6 and 14.

Johnny and Cali decided to sell jalapeno poppers, along with a jalapeno popper combo with a soda, because they love to eat them at family gatherings and want to share the delicious treats with everyone else.

With the Fair date rapidly approaching, the siblings have started preparing their poppers at the Village of Hope kitchen using their newly acquired time management skills. They are also learning how to handle the hot peppers more carefully as Johnny accidentally squirted jalapeno juice in his eyes as he was de-seeding the peppers!

“Working in the kitchen was so much fun but it made me hungry,” says Callie. “These poppers are from a delicious family recipe and we can’t wait to share them!” Johnny agrees and called dibs on licking the spoon after the batter was prepared.

The two are also actively marketing their product. “We’ve already been able to tell so many people at Village of Hope about our booth and a lot of people are excited to try our poppers,” says Johnny.

“We’ve also been telling all of our friends at school about our booth and we are working hard to drum up business,” adds Cali. “We know our poppers are going to be a big hit!”

The community is invited and encouraged to attend this entrance free holiday event to support some of the youngest entrepreneurs in Orange County while getting a head start on their holiday shopping.
OC Children’s Holiday Business Fair is hosted and sponsored by Orange County Rescue Mission with the goal of developing the skills kids need for future self-sufficiency and success.
