Cox Communications Commitment to Connected Independence

Sponsored

As my parents have begun to age, I have seen it become harder and harder for them to stay connected and as active as they once were. I recently had the opportunity of visiting a Cox Communications “Smart Home” that was set-up with everything that aging parents need to enjoy connected independence.

Did you know that according to the AARP, research indicates almost 90% of adults over the age of 65 want to stay in their current home and community as they age? That makes it more critical than ever for them to take advantage of the advanced technology available that can be powered by Cox Communications high-speed internet.

One feature that I learned about when visiting the Cox “Smart Home” was the ability for aging adults to have access to telemedicine. They can use devices to monitor their health conditions and even have video consultations with their doctors right from the comfort of their home. This technology can help elderly who might not have easy access to transportation and avoid the possibility of contracting illnesses while waiting in medical waiting rooms.

Another great feature that you can get to be installed in your parents home is Cox HomeLife. With Cox HomeLife you can have live HD video cameras and smart home controls installed in your aging parents home. With these controls, it can give you peace of mind that your parents are safe and enjoying living independently.

Three “smart” home tools that I felt would benefit my aging parents would be:

Smart Pill Dispensers – Helps seniors stay on schedule with their medications. Helps prevent forgotten dosages or mixed medications, and sends audible and visual alerts up to 30 minutes before pills are scheduled to be taken.

GeniCan – Garbage can that scans items as they’re thrown away. The GeniCan app builds a shopping list based on what needs to be replaced, and schedules home delivery through Amazon Dash.

Double Robotics Telepresence Robot – Provides a way to check on older adults when their loved ones can’t be there in person. People can see and be seen as they steer the robot via remote control from anywhere in the world.

Cox Communications is committed to helping support our community by providing services that can power technology allowing the aging population to have access to the world still like they did when they were younger and more active. Learn more about Cox Communications online.
