Romantic Summer Comedy: Crazy Rich Asians

I attended a screening as a guest of the studio

My mom showed me the trailer for the movie, Crazy Rich Asians a few months ago, and ever since then, I have literally been counting down the days until we would be able to go see it. Based off of the book, Crazy Rich Asians is probably one of my new favorite movies. With the romance, drama, and comedy it is honestly one of the best films that have hit the theaters for a long time. It has the most beautiful storyline, and the characters are perfect for the roles they are portraying.

When films are based off of books, it is hard to get the movie just right. The movie is either too similar to the book or too different, but Crazy Rich Asians were neither. I also loved that there was more than one love story in the film. It was mainly based on the wealthy heir (Nick Young) and the city girl (Rachel Chu), but there was also another romance drama in the film. There was so much drama, but not to the point where you were overwhelmed. It was the perfect balance between love and emotion.

Another great thing about this film is all of the comedic characters. Akwafina, who played Rachel’s crazy ex-roommate (Goh Peik Lin) added so much humor to the movie that you couldn’t stop laughing whenever she was on the screen. Along with Akwafina, Ken Jeong who played Goh Wye Mon was insanely funny and added that extra comedic mood to the movie.

The last thing I absolutely loved about this film was the storyline. Mainly how a New Yorker falls in love with a guy who is crazy rich and is the heir to a major company. Everything fit together so perfectly, and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing. We were all laughing, crying, and waiting on the edge of our seats to find out what would happen next. There were times when I knew that the whole theater was in awe of the love that never died even when an entire family threatened to rip it apart.

Crazy Rich Asians is in theaters August 15th. Make sure to go see it as soon as you can. I can almost guarantee that you will fall in love with the film just like I have.
