Creating Family Memories at The Ranch Restaurant

This past holiday season was a year of new traditions for our family. For years, we would have a huge Christmas Eve party. All of our friends and family would gather at our home to celebrate all of our memories shared throughout the year.

The one problem with this tradition was that I would never get to visit with our guests. I was always hosting the event and spent most of the holiday in the kitchen and serving our guests.

This year, I wanted to focus on being on spending quality time with our children. I spent a great deal of time researching local restaurants and discovered The Ranch Restaurant in Anaheim. It looked like the perfect setting to have an intimate family dinner on Christmas Eve.

I planned for an early dinner so that I could have plenty of time relaxing by the fire while sipping on hot cocoa and reading Christmas stories with the kids before bedtime.

When we arrived at The Ranch Restaurant, it was beautifully decorated for the holiday. We took a family picture by the Christmas tree and then took a seat at one of the beautiful booths located within the dining room. Our favorite thing about the restaurant was the staff. With my son being a culinary arts student at OCSA, he is passionate about acknowledging excellent service, and he was overwhelmed by the service we received at the restaurant.

The Ranch has a pre-set menu for a holiday, and it was one of the best dinners we have ever enjoyed together. For the first course, our favorite was the Fairytale Pumpkin Ravioli. The dish featured Cuyama Orchards apples, Christmas goose, hazelnuts, and garden sage. The flavors blended beautifully, and when paired with their freshly baked bread, it was heavenly.

While I thought I was going to prefer the salad for the second course, it was the cauliflower veloute that was our family favorite. The soup featured a duck confit, swiss chard, and olive oil croutons. It was perfect for enjoying a chilly evening in Orange County.

For the main course, I devoured every last bite of the land and sea. The dish featured cape grim Tasmanian grass-fed filet and Alaskan king crab legs. It was paired to perfection with a king crab risotto and a cabernet reduction. The steak was cooked to the perfect temperature, and the seafood brought out the rich flavors of the meat.

My kid’s favorite dish of the evening was the Baja striped bass. The fish was paired with baby dutch potatoes, Castelvetrano olives, baby artichokes, and acqua pazza. The fish melted in our mouth with every bite and was the highlight of our meal at The Ranch.

I invited our children to bring one small Christmas gift to open at dinner. They laughed captured images and enjoyed every moment opening one of their presents while savoring the rich desserts. It was our favorite Christmas Eve spent together, and it was the staff that helped to make it extra special.
