‘Curry Up’ and Get Authentic Indian Cuisine at the Irvine Spectrum

Finding good (and authentic) Indian food has always been a challenge in Orange County. In the past, there have only been a couple of restaurants where I would seek authentic flavors, and most are sit-down restaurants. When I learned that Curry Up Now, a fast-casual dining destination, was opening at the Irvine Spectrum Center, I ‘curried’ over to get a taste.

Curry Up Indian Restaurant

The restaurant is located in the new wing of the Irvine Spectrum and is right next to the new playground. The best part is that parents can eat a delicious Indian dinner while watching their children play in the outdoor play structure.

It has a fast causal set-up which is perfect for busy families with young children. When I entered the restaurant, I went up to the counter to place our order. The menu featured everything from traditional dishes to dishes with a fresh new take on the classic recipes.

Samosas at Curry Up at Irvine Spectrum

Since I was dining with a friend, I was able to get a couple of different dishes to try. With samosas being one of my favorites, we started dinner by trying the famous appetizer. They were massive, and plenty for a family of four to share. The dish features two handmade empanada-like pastries stuffed with curried potatoes and chutneys. Plus, it is vegan!

Along with the samosas, we tried the papdi chaat. The dish featured chaat masala yogurt, crisp papdi chips, and potato garbanzo mash. The vegetarian dish was light, refreshing, and the perfect dish to begin your dining experience at Curry Up Now.

Main Dishes

My favorite dish out of everything that we tried was the “Death by Tikka Masala Thali.” The dish featured chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, and daal lentils. The dish is large enough for two people to share, but I enjoyed every last bite.

If you are in the mood for more rice, then I would recommend the Tikka Masala bowl. The bowl comes with a large serving of rice, chana garbanzo masala or homestyle daal lentils, pickles, and pico with choice of protein. Did I mention that it is also gluten-free?

Sexy fries at Curry Up at Irvine Spectrum

We had to get a taste of the sexy fries, and they were a foodies dream come true. The dish is Indian-inspired poutine. It comes with sweet potato fries topped with cheese and your choice of protein.

Finally, another must-have is the quesadillix. Deep-rooted in the streets of Punjab; whole wheat potato stuffed parantha flatbread, mozzarella, choice of protein, pickles, chaat masala yogurt, and chutney. Oh my!

We ended our dining experience at Curry Up Now by savoring the sweetness of the Gulab Jamun. The dessert is caramelized milk balls in sugar syrup.
