Customizable Mexican Food at Chronic Tacos

We dined as a guest of the venue

Chronic Tacos has locations across Orange County, and it wasn’t until this week that I finally made my way into a location to see what all the hype is about. Since I spend a lot of time driving from South OC to Santa Ana for my son’s school events at Orange County School of the Arts, I find myself stopping in Tustin a lot to eat. While on my way up to Santa Ana earlier this week, the little ones were hungry, so we stopped at the new Chronic Tacos that just opened off Newport Avenue.

I loved that there was plenty of parking in the parking lot, and when we entered the restaurant, I admired the decor. There is a beautiful mural on one side of the restaurant and plenty of tables for families to enjoy a tasty meal together.

All of the menu items are customizable – which I love. Since I am on a strict diet, I loved that I could customize my meal to work with my diet, and there are a lot of healthy choices. The staff was bringing out fresh meats and beans to the counter, and one chef was in the back cooking shrimp fresh for one of the customers. It went right from the pan to his burrito!!

Since I am working hard to eat healthy, I ordered a salad. I was able to pick from the many ingredients to customize a fresh and delicious salad for dinner. It was so big that I had a couple of bites, and there was still enough for the girl in my carpool to have the other half for dinner on the way home.

The minute that my kids saw someone in the restaurant eating Chronic Fries, they knew that was what they wanted to order. Chronic Fries featured a large plate of fresh french fries topped with melted cheese, beans, carne asada, and sour cream. They devoured every bite of the dish within minutes.

For the main course, my younger ordered a simple carne asada taco, and my daughter ordered a torta. Both of the dishes were fresh, delicious, and they both said that they wanted to come back another time for more.

Since my older son is a shrimp lover, I ordered him a grilled and fried fish taco. I wanted to see which one he liked better, and it was the grilled shrimp that was his favorite. Both of the tacos were super flavorful, and one of the best fish tacos that he has had.

We ended our dinner with a cup of their famous churro bites. I warn you – you can’t just eat one!
