Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse Brings a Taste of the East Coast to Orange County

We dined as a guest of the venue

When the Irvine Company announced that they were going to bring a little bit of the east coast to the west, with the opening of Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse back in 2017, I knew that it had to be something spectacular.

So what makes Davio’s so special? Chef/Restaurateur Steve DiFillippo. After graduating Boston University and the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, the then 24-year-old Steve began his journey in making a regular Italian steakhouse into a fine dining experience.

The first step in making his vision a reality came with the purchase of an established restaurant called Davio’s in Boston’s Back Bay.

With hard work, insight, and a deep understanding of what people want in a dining experience, Steve’s empire grew from one restaurant in Boston to nine on the east coast and his first west coast location here in Irvine.

So what is the secret to the success of Davio’s? As Steve explains it, hospitality is the key to his restaurants’ success as well as mouthwatering dishes and unique cocktails. But there truly is so much more to Steve and Davio’s success.

We started dinner with an incredible seafood platter. The fish was fresh, and tasted like it had be caught from the ocean the morning before we dined at Davio’s.

I find that their attention to detail as well their ability to read a room and make everyone feel welcomed has a lot to do with it. Growing up with an Italian-American dad and Portuguese-American mom, food was what brought everyone together.

Cooking, sitting around the table, eating a fantastic meal, and interacting with one another is what shaped Steve’s vision of what dining should be.

An intimate, delicious experience that has you leaving with a full belly and happy spirit; that’s exactly how I felt after dining at Davio’s.

So what does an Italian steakhouse serve? Everything. From fresh popovers that melt in your mouth to a crab cake that I can write on and on about to pasta, meatballs, grandma’s recipe gnocchi, Georges Bank Sea Scallops that flake off onto your folk, and steak, 60-day aged center cut steak.

Wait wait wait I forgot dessert. Seriously who forgets dessert? I had the most fantastic panna cotta.

This rich, silky, decadent dish is surrounded by fresh blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries giving your mouth a ying/yang sweet/tart experience that you will dream about for weeks to come.

If the food above hasn’t enticed you enough wait till you experience Davio’s signature cocktails and impressive wine list.

It’s hard to narrow down which cocktail is my favorite, so I will give you my top 5 that you must try: Irvine Fizz, Mango Salsa, Von Karman Kocktail, Skinny Watermelon-Basil, and last but not least Raspberry-Basil lemonade.

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse is located at the corner of Von Karman and Michelson. 18420 Von Karman Ave, Ste 100, Irvine, CA 92612. For reservations and inquiries, you can contact Davio’s at 949-477-4810 or check out their website at www.davios.com/irv.
