DiscoveryScienceCenter

It was just announced today that the popular Orange County family destination, Discovery Science Center, will receive a 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The Discovery Science Center is one of 10 recipients of this National Award presented by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The National Award is one of the highest honors that a museum or library can receive. The Discovery Science Center has been encouraging a love for science and education in young children within our community for the past 25 years. They offer hands-on activities, immersive environments and role-playing. The Discovery Science Center has hosted 71,000 field trip students and has implemented educational initiatives in 650 schools this year.

The award will be presented at a celebration in Washington, D.C. on May 8th. Congratulations to Discovery Science Center on this prestigious award for your commitment to the children in our community.

“Museums and libraries serve as centers for lifelong learning and as cornerstones for our communities. Discovery Science Center has embraced environmental education as a core area of learning, and its programs, exhibits, and immersive experiences are positively affecting behavior. We are proud to name Discovery Science Center one of this year’s National Medal for Museum and Library Service winners,” said Susan Hildreth, director, Institute of Museum and Library Services.
