Disney On Ice Rocks With the New and the Old

School is almost out for winter break, so here’s your final OC Mom Blog quiz…

Question: Where can you see ice-skating horses, dancing teacups and flaming arrows being shot by a feisty red head?

Answer: Disney On Ice’s Rockin’ Ever After at the Honda Center in Anaheim!

My daughters had been eagerly awaiting our Disney On Ice evening to come, and boy did it ever live up to the hype.

As the pink show lights cascaded across the enormous ice white rink, the show began with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and all their pals introducing the enchanting tales of Ariel, Tangled, Merida and Bell.

In the first tale, Ariel took us deep beneath the waves as she dreamt and sang about being a part of Eric’s world. Sebastian and Flounder even got into the musical numbers. Of course, the show would not be complete without an antagonist, Ursula, who convinced Arial to trade her tail for human legs in exchange for her beautiful singing voice.

Next, and a favorite of mine, is “Tangled,” featuring the long-haired beauty, Rapunzel, who joined in a chorus of harmless hooligans in the song “I’ve Got a Dream.” In true Disney fashion, the realistically costumed horse Maximus on ice skates stole the show with his sliding spins on the ice. The closing scene was a breathtaking display of floating lights when Rapunzel finally realized her true identity.

The houselights went up, which meant an intermission and time for treats. We made our way down the Honda Center halls to a variety of food, treats and Disney toys. Moments later, we returned to our seats to the sound of Scottish bag pipes…

From the latest Disney Pixar film, Brave, competed to win the heart of headstrong, sharp-shooting Merida – in her first ice-skating debut. You could sense the fierceness of Merida’s character, and the mother-daughter tension as if you were watching the movie all over again. Disney even threw in some fancy pyrotechnics in this entertaining and exciting story.

The show closed with the classic tale “Beauty and the Beast.” You couldn’t help but move your feet to the Beast’s enchanted entourage of household wares. And with his own group of female admirers, the arrogant Gaston pumped up his muscles and the crowd with incredible ice skating axels. Once again, you were transported back to the original Disney favorite that never seems to get old.

So, for those who passed the quiz (or who read the answer) – purchase your Disney On Ice tickets today. The show runs until December 22. Tickets start at $22 each. Call 800-745-3000 for more information. Remember to allow plenty of time for parking ($15 cash only).
