Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Teen Review

The Nutcracker is a timeless tale that everybody loves! Ever since I was a child, I have been going to see the classical ballet, and with Disney’s new Nutcracker and the Four Realms I can watch it in a movie theater! One big twist on the film is that it is not based on the theatre performance, but on the book! Before going to see the movie with my little brother, I read the children’s book and painted my nails with the new OPI Nutcracker collection, just to put me in the holiday mood.

My little brother and I were super excited for this movie because we both have our own love for Nutcracker story, and know the original story by heart. He might’ve not seen the ballet as many times as me, but we loved it just the same. We went to the movie theater, bought some popcorn, and took our seats. We were eagerly awaiting the start of the new Disney film.

Once the movie started, I realized that my favorite thing about it was the costumes. I have never really paid that much attention to the costumes in films before The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Even when Clara wasn’t in the fantastic realms, when she was just in London, the dresses were still beautiful. And when she entered the realms, I was blown away by the spectacular designs and patterns on every single outfit. In the snowflake, flower, and sweets realms were costumes that I would die to wear.

Another thing I loved about the film is the twisted take on it. There are still evil mice and Clara, and the SugarPlum fairy, but they added some really cool plot twists and plot changes. Clara has to navigate herself through the Four Realms with one of them against the other three at war, and Clara has to do her best to restore the peace in the film. Clara also learns some life lessons as she steers through friendships and enemies. Watching the mesmerizing movie taught me some lessons about who people are on the inside and discovering yourself after a significant loss.

Another thing that Disney kept in the film was the beautiful ballet dancing. About halfway through the movie Misty Copeland (who is my FAVORITE ballerina) comes out to do the dance of Clara’s mother and how she discovered the realms. The dance was so beautiful, and it reminded me of being back in the ballet theatre with my parents and grandparents.

Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is in theaters now, and you will definitely want to watch this new take on a holiday classic with your friends and family. Start getting into the Holiday spirit by watching the new film today!
