Dogs Hang Ten at Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach Pier

It’s been two weeks, and my kids cannot stop talking about the morning they watched hundreds of dogs hang ten at the Huntington Beach Pier. It was the first year that our family got up early to come to see the popular Surf City Dog competition in Huntington Beach.

My kids have been wanting to try surfing, and after seeing that even a dog can do it, they are ready to hit the beach and start surfing. These dogs were rockin’ the waves as some of them even did some cool tricks. While the dogs were doing tricks on their surfboards in the waves, Sony Electronics was busy capturing all the memories for pet owners with their unique waterproof POV video cameras.

The dogs competed in four weight-class division, and were judged on a variety of different skills. The top dogs of the competition were Tillman, 1st Place; Louie, 2nd Place; and Libby was 3rd Place.

In the Medium Category, Abbie Girl took 1st, Sugar, 2nd and Beans, 3rd place. Bentley was first place in the Small Category, followed by Kihei (2nd) and Toby (3rd).

The top tandems riders were: Kona and Kai taking the dog/person tandem while Hanzo and Kalani took the dog/dog category. Special awards went to the following: Louie (Crowd Pleaser), Sugar (Best Wipeout) and Beans the Whippet (Best Grom).

Surf City Dog

Surf City Dog was three days of action packed fun in Huntington Beach, and pet owners are already training for the 2014 competition. The event included a doggie fashion show, costume contest and 2-Day Eukanuba expo. Families might be lucky to catch a glimpse of one of these dogs training for next years competition by catching a wave at the Huntington Beach dog beach.
