Don’t Miss ‘School of Rock’ at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts

We visited as a guest of the Segerstrom

Writing about musicals is something I love to do . Especially the ones at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, which happens to be the place where I recently watched School of Rock take place on the stage. I barely knew anything about this musical before being told it was coming to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, so when my mom told me we were going, I immediately called some of my Musical Theater friends and asked them about it. They told me that they didn’t want to spoil much, but they said it was hilarious, cute, and charming. Let me tell you one thing – they were not wrong.

When we first arrived at the theater the first thing I noticed was all the kids that were coming to see the show. That was a huge sign on how amazing it was going to be if all these kids wanted to come to see it. We had a quick meal at Center 360 before heading into the stunning theater to take out seats.

The lights dimmed down, and a voice came on the loudspeaker saying that all of the children acting in the show did, in fact, play all of the instruments themselves. That fact alone blew my mind throughout the show as a bunch of kids performed their musical abilities on the stage. Just watching all the kids running their fingers through the frets of electric guitars and bases was enough to make me want to watch it again.

The story of the show was just adorable as a struggling rock artist gets kicked out of his band and creates a new one with all preppy, young private school students. Throughout the entire show, the audience was laughing, and “aw” ing, and eagerly waiting for the next song to play. After the show ended, I caught myself even singing some of the tunes they played in the show.

School of rock is at Segerstrom Center for the Arts until August 5. Don’t forget to gather your little ones, or big ones for that matter and take them to see the heartwarming story of how the School of Rock came to be.
