The Ecology Center: A Maker’s Market

The Ecology Center is pleased to present Handmade: A Maker’s Market on Saturday, November 10, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For one day only, the non-profit’s ecological oasis in San Juan Capistrano will transform into an open-air market and modern village showcasing a variety of handmade goods from some of Southern California’s most creative artisans and makers.

In The Ecology Center’s 5th year of Handmade, they call attention to the principles of a handmade culture and the building of a self-sustaining modern village. Imagine that everything needed for us to thrive is made within our community. Where the dishes we eat from, the clothes we wear, and the soaps we use, are all created by our neighbors and friends. Where everything is made from materials sourced in our region, not in a factory using chemicals and inhumane labor.

The organization’s community of artisans and makers are producing goods at a small scale, producing no waste, giving back to the earth, sourcing local, and taking a human-centered approach, all to make a statement, reminding us that how we consume can change the world. By consciously consuming products at a hyper-local scale, we support our local economy and inspire each other to make the products we use everyday. When we make products at a small scale and create directly for our community with self-sustaining practices, we can build a vibrant, thriving local economy. Select products from a variety of local makers, artisans, and farmers are available in The Ecology Center’s newly remodeled Farm Stand year round.
