Emilia Clarke is very well known for her role in the popular television series Game of Thrones. When she entered the room where 25 other bloggers were awaiting her arrival, everyone in the room clapped and cheered with excitement about having the unique opportunity to speak with her.

The biggest question on everyone’s mind was when did she become a Star Wars fan? Clarke wasn’t born when the first Star Wars film was released, but her brother was a huge fan. She shared with us that when she was little, they would both dress-up as Star Wars characters for Halloween. “When Episode 7 came out, I watched it with him, and I became a fan. I suddenly realized what everyone must have felt in 1977 when it first came out, and I thought to myself that this is how movies should be made,” said Clarke. When Clarke saw the film for the first time, she shared with us that he screamed louder than her.

In the film, Qi’ra is a survivor. She does what she needs to do and keep being around. “What you get to see is her and Han from the very beginning. You get to see a youthful side of where they both came from when nothing was too serious. They were just surviving like Bonnie and Clyde. Then when you see her later on in life, she has lived a large amount in a short period of time. She had to hustle and grow-up real quick,” said Qi’ra.

Clarke is already a role model for many young girls, and we were curious what advice she has for all the young girls who admire her. She said, “We are just women. You can take strong out of the equation. Strength is within us as women. It would be wonderful if the young girls watching me play these characters just see that as part of being a woman as opposed it being a choice – we are all strong women. We all have it in us, so go and get it.”

One of the most challenging things for Clarke was dealing with so much history. She wanted to make sure and not disappoint any Star Wars fans. “It is a big thing to carry and to make sure that you’re doing it right,” said Clarke.

An interesting fact about Clarke is that her dad was in the theatre as she was growing up, and so she spent a lot of time backstage. She mentioned to us that she feels it is essential to be involved as an actor both on stage and screen. “When you do stage, it is like going back to school, and you get to relearn everything. There is magic in the theatre, and there is magic in being part of an ensemble – unlike anything you could ever get when filming on screen,” said Clarke.

When it came to the costumes, she had two very different looks in the film. In the beginning, they are just kids, and then, later on, she is grown-up. “I remember when I first put on the younger outfit, I was like ‘yes,’ and then later on my outfit needed to have an impact,” said Clarke.

It was important for Clarke to ensure certain things were set in place to ensure that Qi’ra is shown as a strong woman in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Don’t miss Clarke’s epic performance in theaters on May 25th. Learn more about Solo: A Star Wars Story online, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
