Epic Family Night Out at the Hollywood Bowl

We visited as a guest of the venue

One of my parent’s favorite things to do when I was a child was to have a date night at the Hollywood Bowl. I always thought that my husband and I would follow in their footsteps, but life gets busy when raising three children, and it finally worked out with our schedule to make our first visit to the Hollywood Bowl this past weekend. While I thought my first visit to the Hollywood Bowl would be a date night, we ended up bringing the kids for an unforgettable night under the stars for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We got box tickets (which I highly recommend when coming with young children). We left early and planned to arrive right when the gates opened, which again, I recommend doing when bringing your family. While on our way to Los Angeles, I stopped at Stonefire Grill to pick-up dinner for the family. Stonefire Grill is one of the best places to get picnic-style food, and I recommend the tri-tip salad and breadsticks – yum.

When we arrived at the Hollywood Bowl, we parked our car in the parking lot and brought our picnic basket to the front gate. We did end up having to toss out the sodas that we brought, so I recommend just planning on purchasing all your drinks from the Hollywood Bowl concessions.

Once we entered the gates, we purchased some drinks, and the staff helped to guide us to our box seats. The reason that the box seats are the best for families is that it is a contained space (perfect for toddlers). There are tables and chairs for your family to enjoy eating dinner together comfortably.

We listened to music, ate our dinner, and eagerly awaited the start of the performance. Then it was time for the fun to begin. The lights began to dim, the crowd started to cheer, and John Stamos took the stage with an epic pre-show performance.

My husband was beyond happy that they played the original version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – his favorite. My children enjoyed the mini stage show performances throughout the film that truly brought the film to life. The entire show was a fully immersive experience into the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Our entire family had the time of our life, and we can’t wait to come back for another night creating lifelong memories at the Hollywood Bowl. Check online for upcoming shows/performances at the Hollywood Bowl.
