The District’s Taste of 10 Anniversary Event

The District at Tustin Legacy is turning the big 10 this year! When The District first opened in 2007, it was the largest shopping center to be built in Orange County during that decade. Mermaid Breakfast at the Ocean Institute

Mermaid Breakfast at the Ocean Institute

We visited as a guest of the venue If you are lucky and look closely across the horizon on the cliffs of Dana Point on a random September day, you can see “pirate” ships sailing on the waves to the Tall Ships Festival at the Ocean Institute.    Sadly, I missed that glorious day, but my daughter and I were equally lucky to meet the mermaids that swam to shore to see these magnificent ships up close.  The three day Tall Ship Festival started Friday night with the Parade of Sail and ended Sunday evening with the Cannon Battles. In between the celebrations, the Ocean Institute was able to connect with the Mer-kingdom and brought to surface some beautiful mermaids for children to meet. The Mermaid Breakfast began at 9:00 am, and as guests enjoyed pancakes, fruit, eggs, and sausage, that pirates brought to land for the mermaid friends brunch, story time, and under the sea fun.   While assembling her mermaid crown, my daughter looked up and saw a pirate rushing into the room holding something or better yet someone in his arms.  As he ran to the ocean stage with his special guest, we heard a beautiful voice speaking out to that crowd, the voice of Mermaid Rachel. Mermaid Rachel sat on her clam thrown and greeted everyone.  She then had the children come close to her shell for a story as well as a Q&A.  After her amazing tales of the merpeople world, we were given a chance to meet two more mermaids in a special room that housed a tank for the mermaids. Once in the room, mermaids Cataline and Chel gave us the 411 on life as well as a special picture opportunity.  It was truly a unique experience, one of which I highly recommend to all. The event is very popular and sells out quickly so I recommend that you follow our Facebook page for information on future events so that you can have a shot at obtaining such a sought after experience like this.  Thank you, Ocean Institute for bringing magic into the world and hosting such a lovely event. Stay tuned for more magical mermaid events at the Ocean Institute. I’m an OC mom of two and photographer. I love living in Southern California and want to expose my children to all that it offers. I love taking my kids on adventures and capturing their every moment so much so that my kids find it odd if I don’t take their pictures. You can see my work on...
