This is the last week for spring break in the OC, and there are some great events going on! We just upgraded to a new events calendar, so stay tuned as we start updating it daily with more events for you family to enjoy. Have a great week!

 

April 8th

Basketball Spring Break Camp

Laguna Niguel Family YMCA

Laguna Niguel, CA

Basketball Camp – Spring Break (ages 6-15)

Basketball Camp is an opportunity for youth of all skill levels to learn the fundamentals and develop basketball skills. Participants will practice drills to develop dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. Players should be dressed in athletic gear, bring water, and have a morning snack.

Flag Football League

Youth will have a fun learning experience learning about teamwork and football values like responsibility and accountability to help them succeed on and off the field. Program is held off-site at various elementary school fields. Practices are held once/week; days and times determined by which team. Games are on Saturdays. Fees include uniform. Mar 2 – May 4.

Erna makes art classes fun for kids with fabulous projects aimed to inspire with the help of some of history’s most famous and beloved artists. Let Van Gogh, Seurat, Chagall, Kandinsky and Mondrian inspire them to create stunning art work everyone will be proud of!
All lessons include a presentation and discussion about the theme/artist as well as all the materials needed to complete the project

This class is a four week session, Monday afternoons in which they will complete four projects.

Junior Neptunes (ages 6 to 8) on April 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Children will discover the hidden world beneath the ocean’s waves, including a look at marine creatures.

Junior Oceanographer (ages 9 to 12) on April 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Become a marine biologist for the day, learning the principles of marine biology and oceanography. The day also includes a visit to the Dana Point Marine Protected Area on the beach alongside the Institute and a two-hour cruise aboard the R/V Sea Explorer.

Come explore the rainbow of color in Bommer Canyon as we hike along the trails and match up fun hues from the different plants and animals we find. We will make a fun color chart to carry along our trek. This program is perfect for wee little ones 2-6 with their parents. We will start by enjoying our program’s topic, maybe make a craft or have a story, then explore the trails at an easy pace suitable for off-road strollers. Bark at the Great Park

Bring your four-legged friends* to the Orange County Great Park for a fun, interactive and educational afternoon that will help you take better care of your dog. Bark at the Great Park will include informative presentations on dog care and training, American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen exam pre-tests, opportunities to speak to a vet about dog health, as well as performances by Disc Dogs in Southern California.

Visitors to Bark at the Great Park can also dress their furry friends in costume and parade them down our “doggie fashion runway” or just take them on a walk on one of the Great Park’s dog-friendly paths.

Children’s Garden Workshop Series: Three Sisters Gardening: A Native American Tradition

The Great Park Food + Farm Lab is hosting a series of fun-filled garden themed workshops specifically designed for children, on the second Sunday of every month, at the Farmers Market.

The workshops run every half hour, and include a brief interactive presentation and hands-on activity to help kids develop a deeper understanding of the food they eat, the importance of environmental stewardship, the history of agriculture in their community, and what it takes to ensure a healthy and sustainable future.
