Spot local native and spring resident birds with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists on this slow and easy 2-mile walk through a landscaped suburban parkland setting at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Hike runs 8:00am – 11:00am. Wear hiking or walking shoes; bring binoculars! Laguna Niguel Regional Park, 28241 La Paz Road, Laguna Niguel (Enter park and make a right turn at the T intersection. Come search for evidence that animals leave behind in Round Canyon. Mule deer, bobcat, coyote and even mountain lion call this hidden canyon home. Gain the basic tracking techniques as we search for evidence such as tracks, fur, bones, homes and even scat. You never know what you may find! Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting a little dusty. This program is focused for older children and adults. Join us in beautiful Baker Canyon as we observe the many species of birds found in this canyon’s diverse habitats. Baker Canyon is home to red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture, white-tailed kite, scrub jay, acorn woodpecker, California towhee and many others. Discover why their home is a protected wilderness area. Earth Day Festival at Aquarium of the Pacific

Learn what you can do to help our ocean planet at the Aquarium’sfifteenth annual Earth Day festival. Join us for a weekend of family fun celebrating the Earth while learning easy, everyday tips to protect the environment. Visit booths from various Earth-friendly organizations and participate in hands-on learning demonstrations for people of all ages. Festival runs Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. $10 off Adult Admission with eWaste Trade-in. Drop off your eWaste at the booth in front of the Aquarium during this festival weekend for a coupon worth $10 off adult admission to the Aquarium. Valid April 25-26 only.

Want to stand knee-deep in rows of blooming color? Want to refresh your senses while giving back to Nature? Sign up to help behind the scenes at the Irvine Ranch Conservancy’s one-of-a-kind Native Seed Farm in Irvine!  You will be harvesting seeds from native Spring wildflowers, like California Poppies and Arroyo Lupines. Tools and training will be provided, and no experience is needed.  After a quick ride to the Farm-site in an open-air safari vehicle, you will get introduced to some of our beautiful native plants, and then we’ll get to work! The big yellow bus will be waiting for you at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 25 as we go on a fun-filled tour of several Lake Forest parks. Kids will enjoy playing on the new playgrounds at Tamarisk and Baker Ranch Community Parks. We will visit Etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, explore the beautiful new Sports Park, and enjoy the serenity of the Nature Park. Our day will end around 1 pm with a barbeque at Baker Ranch Community Park and a visit from our very own City mascot, Nectar. Ages: 3 years old to adult. Fee: $3 per person for tour and much more! Earth Day at the Ocean Institute

The Ocean Institute will be celebrating the 45th anniversary of Earth Day! Join us for a celebration and participate in hands-on conservation activities.

  • Create fun, eco-friendly crafts
  • Learn about the importance of protecting natural environments through hands-on activities.
  • Volunteer for the beach/harbor clean-up and get free admission for the day!

Clean-up hours are 9am – 11am; check-in at the front of the Ocean Institute; supplies will be provided. Registration is not required, however for groups of 10+ please inform Katie Markisz in advance at (949) 496-2274 x 367 or [email protected] so that we can have ample supplies available for the clean-up. Public hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Admission price is $6.50 for adults (13 yrs+) and $4.50 for children (3 -12 yrs); Children 2 and under are free. Members are free. Join our naturalists on a nature walk and learn about the local plants, animals and history of Irvine Park. Light to moderate walking on both paved paths and trails. Beachside Chat – Learn about some of the fun and interesting animals that live at Crystal Cove State Park on Saturdays, April 4 & 25 from 11-2pm at the Historic District Education Commons where Ranger Jenn will host a Beachside Chat.  Park in the Los Trancos lot (PCH inland at stoplight Los Trancos then walk through the tunnel or take the shuttle.) What do moms do all day while their kids are in school? Well, they go to Mom School, of course! They have to learn all of those important mom characteristics, like how to cook vegetables and fix bicycle tires. Illustrator Priscilla Burris will join us for a special session of Mom School, where the kids will teach the moms a few tricks! There will be giveaways, as well as a signing. Mom School is going to be getting a lot of national attention, so you’ll want to be one of the first to see this darling, clever book! No Cost. Enjoy an early evening family hike on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. We hike a gradual climb of 500′ elevation of  as we watch for red-tailed hawks and mule deer. The hike will average 3 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation. This program is for participants who would enjoy a slower-paced gradual climb hike. Hikers should be in good health able to do a beginning hike over a variety of terrains. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water for the hike. Be ready to enjoy the sounds and smells of early evening. This free program runs 4:00pm – 6:00pm for ages 8 and up. Register online. Driving directions emailed upon registration.
