The fun continues with lots of great events happening in Orange County for families including Shark Nights at the Aquarium, The Swallows Day Celebration, Story time and more!

Monday, March 17th

Pretend City St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Dress your kids in green and bring them to Pretend City on Monday, March 17th. Children can participate in a treasure hunt, Irish art, and some leprechaun fun. There will be storytime, and dance with rainbow ribbons throughout the day. All of the fun events are included with the price of admission and will be happening throughout the day. Tickets are $12 for adults, $12 for children, and complimentary for children under the age of 12 months.

St. Josephs Day and The Return of the Swallows Celebration

Dont miss this world renowned celebration held each year on March 19th, marking the return of our famous swallows to Capistrano and the coming of spring- a time of renewal and rebirth.

This annual celebration includes: ringing of the historic bells, live mariachi music, flamenco performances, community presentations, traditional song and dance performances by Mission Basilica School students, history of St. Josephs Day and Swallows Legend, local food vendors, special Guest Lecture on Cliff Swallows by Dr. Charles Brown, and more.

Shark Nights

The public is invited to get up close with the ocean’s ultimate predators at the Aquarium of the Pacific for FREE during Shark Lagoon Nights. Guests will have the opportunity to touch bamboo sharks and see large sharks such as sandtigers as well as rays in the Aquarium’s Shark Lagoon. Coffee, hot cocoa, beer, wine, desserts, and snacks are available for purchase.

Date night gives you an opportunity to drop off your children at the Y for an evening activities while you enjoy a night out. Each Date Night has a theme and includes games, movies, dinner and snacks. Registration is open to youth 3-12 years old. Because parents will not be on site, children must be potty trained an a current emergency contact form must be on file. Registration for Date Night will close the Thursday prior to the event. Spaces are limited. Pick up must occur no later than the ending time.

Story time and healthy eating come together in the Orange County Great Park’s new 2014 Story Time in the Garden Series. Once a month, the Great Park’s Farm + Food Lab will host a fun-filled 30 minutes of food-related stories, songs, games and activities designed to help children build strong language and literacy skills. Event starts at 10am to 10:30 in the Farm + Food lab.

56th Annual Swallows Day Parade presented by the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Assocation

Parade Begins: 11:00 a.m.
The annual Swallows Day Parade, presented by the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association, is the largest non-motorized parade in the country. Held right in downtown surrounding the Mission, the Swallows Day Parade is part of the town’s Fiesta de la Golondrinas celebrating the legend of the return of the swallows each year to Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Be sure to join us for St. Joseph’s Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration held each year at the Mission on March 19th, and to visit the Mission following the parade for live mariachis. See more information below.

Divers Day

There will be educational presentations, live dive demonstrations, and more. The Aquarium will also host several organizations that are related to the sport and science of diving. The diving community is invited to find out about volunteer diving and other opportunities for involvement with dive-related organizations in Southern California. Divers who present valid proof of certification with their photo I.D. will receive free admission.
