Come enjoy a leisurely paced, 2-3 mph, hike in the Irvine Open Space. Get to know the nature around you as we explore the Orchard Hills loop. We will walk through and around an active avocado orchard that borders on the natural open space. Far-reaching views from the highest point reward your effort. The Orchard Hills route is 3 miles and includes several significant climbs. Please be prepared with water and closed toe sturdy shoes or boots, sunscreen and all other necessary elements to keep you healthy on the trail. This free hike runs 8:00am – 10:30am for ages 10 and up. Register online. Driving directions emailed upon registration.

Bayside Buddies is OC Parks new summer program for school age kids offered on selected Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (ages 4-10)! This is a parent and child hike with activities and games along the way, and ending with a craft in the cool classroom. Come learn about the different habitats of Upper Newport Bay, who lives here and why the Bay is important. Come prepared for exciting experiences! $5.00 per child and pre-registration is required. We’ve loved having this workshop on weekdays this summer! It’s a great way to keep kids engaged in the storytelling process, being creative, and having fun–all rolled up into one great one-hour collaborative workshop! $5/child for the first Annie Banannie workshop. Ages 7+. Workshop runs 3:30pm – 4:30pm.

Slow-Paced Fitness Hike on Paved Hicks Haul Road

Enjoy an evening fitness hike through stunning rock formations and fragrant native plants as you listen to the sounds of nature. This hike is done at your own pace as a walk, jog, or run (speed range typically 2.5 to 3.5 mph), so is suitable for beginners who are just starting their fitness program as well as more experienced hikers who are looking for a workout. This out-and-back program travels the 3.5 mile route to scenic Loma Ridge (450′ elevation gain) and back down, with most participants completing the route in about 1.5 hours. The hike is family-friendly, but children must be closely supervised by an adult and able to hike with the group, or be safely carried by a strong adult or secured in a jogging stroller. This free hike runs 6:00pm – 8:00pm for ages 12 and up. Register online. Driving directions emailed upon registration.

Fullerton Downtown Farmers’ Market

Located in the Downtown Plaza on Wilshire Avenue, between Harbor Boulevard and Pomona Avenue, adjacent to the Fullerton Museum Center.

Fullerton Market offers farm-fresh produce, flowers, fresh-baked breads, live entertainment, outdoor beer garden, arts and crafts, and activities for children. In addition to the traditional favorites, new vendors will be added each week. The market runs 4:00pm – 8:30pm, April 2 – October 29, 2015.

Admission to the market is free. There are kids’ activities, live entertainment, an outdoor beer garden, arts and crafts, produce vendors and more! Visitors to Fullerton Market will also be able to tour the award-winning Fullerton Museum Center, which offers a special reduced admission rate of $2 per person from 4 to 8 p.m. on market days the first Thursday of every month.

Parking for Fullerton Market may be found in any of the free downtown lots, or in the parking structures at Wilshire (enter from Harbor); Lemon Street and Chapman Avenue; and in the Transportation Center on Pomona and Santa Fe Avenue. Musical Entertainment starts at 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. each night. See website for band line-up.

Bring your blankets, find yourself a spot on the sand, and come watch Lilo & Stitch at Bolsa Chica State Beach! The Amigos de Bolsa Chica will be serving up popcorn and there will be crafts and games so bring the whole family. This free public event will be at the Bolsa Chica State Beach Lifeguard Headquarters building on Thursday, August 20th. Activities start at 6:30 pm and the movie begins at 8 pm. OC Parks welcomes back its annual outdoor summer concert series. Six free concerts at Salt Creek Beach, Mason Regional Park, Mile Square Regional Park, Irvine Regional Park and Craig Regional Park will present Southern California artists performing live under the summer sky June through August. Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point will kick off this year’s free summer concert series. Thursday, July 23 welcomes U2 replica The Joshua Tree performing with the progressive and classic rock tunes of Zach Churchill.

All concerts are from 6 to 8 p.m., free and open to the public of all ages. Bring your family and enjoy live music under the stars with OC Parks this summer. Event: Free. Parking: Free.
