Join us in beautiful Weir Canyon as we observe the many species of birds found in this canyon’s diverse habitats. Weir Canyon Nature Preserve is home to red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture, white-tailed kite, scrub jay, acorn woodpecker, California towhee and many others. Discover why their home is a protected wilderness area. Remember to wear sunscreen, bring plenty of water, and bring your binoculars. Spare binoculars are available. Come search for evidence that animals leave behind in Fremont Canyon. Mule deer, bobcat, coyote and even mountain lion call this hidden canyon home. Gain the basic tracking techniques as we search for evidence such as tracks, fur, bones, homes and even scat. You never know what you may find! Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting a little dusty. This program is focused for older children and adults. Free event runs 8:00am – 11:00am for ages 12 and up. Want to smell the sun-dried sweetness of summertime? Want to feel the crunch of crispy golden brown pods?  Come and refresh your senses while giving back to Nature!

Sign up to help behind the scenes at the Irvine Ranch Conservancy’s one-of-a-kind Native Seed Farm in Irvine!  You will be harvesting seeds from our quirky native Summer wildflowers, like Yellow Pincushions and Heart-leaved Beard Tongue. Tools and training with be provided, and no experience is needed.  After a quick ride to the Farm-site in an open-air safari vehicle, you will get introduced to some of our beautiful native plants, and then we’ll get to work! Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo

The Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo is good old entertainment for the entire family, not to mention the richest 2-day rodeo in the nation with a purse totaling over $250,000. The top 30 rodeo contestants in saddle bronc and bareback riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bull riding and team roping will come to San Juan Capistrano for this chance of a lifetime.

Celebrating the golden age of early California history and the American West, Rancho Mission Viejo has committed to the preservation of the cowboy way of life. Carrying on the cowboy tradition of “passing the hat” in support of a sick child or needy friend, all proceeds from the rodeo will benefit local charities.

Rodeo begins Saturday at 4:00pm (gates open at 1:00pm) and at 1:30pm on Sunday (gates open at 10:30am). See website for details and a schedule of events. Admission is $30 adults and $10 children 4-12. Parking is $5 cash only. Parking is limited so be sure to arrive early!

Enjoy an early evening family hike in Agua Chinon, part of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. We hike a gradual climb of 500 ft elevation of  as we watch for red-tailed hawks and mule deer. The hike will average 3 miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation. This program is for participants who would enjoy a slower-paced gradual climb hike. Hikers should be in good health able to do a beginning hike over a variety of terrains. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water for the hike. Be ready to enjoy the sounds and smells of early evening. Free event runs 6:00pm – 8:00pm for ages 8 and up. Register online. Driving directions emailed upon registration.

Join Aliso Viejo Community Association from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Grand Park for a live concert. For those of you who come to the park early, blankets and chairs are allowed. No roping off, no caution tape, no tarps are allowed. All tarps will be removed by AVCA due to the damage they cause to the grass. AVCA is not responsible for any unattended items.

The 2015 movie series will begin with a screening of the “Muppets Most Wanted.” We build up to the “Lego Movie,” then go back to school with “Monsters University.” Next, we will discover what “A Bug’s Life” is really all about. Last but not least, we will make friends with our favorite robot, Baymax, in the movie “Big Hero 6.” Fee: Free! (Snacks will be available for nominal fee). Event runs 7:30pm – 9:30pm.

Movies start at 7:45 pm. Seating will be available on the grass, so bring a blanket or low lawn chair. If you choose to bring a chair, please sit in the back or on the side, so as not to block the view of others. For the comfort of the audience, dogs are not recommended.
