Spot native and summer resident birds, with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists on this moderate 2-mile, level  hike over uneven terrain through one of the most diverse plant communities in the United States.  Ages 12 and up.  Event runs 8:00am – 11:00am. Wear hiking or walking shoes and bring your binoculars! Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Ranger Headquarters, 28373 Alicia Parkway (from southbound Aliso Creek Road, turn right on Alicia Parkway, first right on Awma Road, left into parking lot). Ranger Led Nature Hike

Join our Park Rangers Sunday mornings for an easy 1-mile hike on the Nature Trail. Hike runs 8:00am – 9:00am. The trail takes visitors through grassland, oak woodland, riparian and sandy cactus scrub communities. Meet at Old Corral Day Use area. Rain will cancel hike.

  • Fee: Free
  • Parking: $5 per vehicle
  • Wear comfortable clothing, hiking shoes.
  • Sunscreen, water and insect repellent are recommended.

Free activities in the Muth Interpretive  Center classroom once a month with a different educational theme to explore.  The activities are self-guided and may include hands on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more.  Join Preserve Staff for a short hike at 11am and 2pm.This month’s theme is Astronomy. Recommended for ages 3-12. Event runs 10:00am – 3:00pm.

Back Bay Science Center (BBSC) Community Day

Come explore the buildings and surroundings of the BBSC!   Event occurs every Sunday and runs 10:00am – 2:00pm. Talk to the City of Newport Beach staff and volunteers about ongoing research, education, & restoration projects. Get your fingers wet in our tide pool touch tank, tour the teaching lab and aquarium tanks, and do some bird watching. The Science Center is located just off of Back Bay Drive on Shellmaker Island (600 Shellmaker Rd). This program is free and no reservations are required.

Farmer’s Market – Sundays at the Orange County Great Park are headlined by the fresh produce and fun at our Certified Farmers Market. Every week, rain or shine, the Great Park Certified Farmers Market features fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, handcrafted artisan products, live music and entertainment, and a selection of gourmet food trucks. Market runs 10:00am – 2:00pm. Free parking and admission.

The Art Lab: Creation Stations – Play, create and explore at our self-directed creation stations. These hands-on activities emphasize divergent thinking, problem solving skills and innovation. Families with children of all ages are welcome. Event runs 10:00am – 4:00pm at the Great Park Artists Studio. Free.

Outer space is more enormous than we can ever imagine…but imagine we must! Let’s take a closer look at our planets and stars to see what it is like to live there, and hypothesize what it would be like to discover a planet and its inhabitants. We will become Astronomers to discover our out-of-this-world knowledge of space.

J.O.Y. for Nature (Juniors or Youths for Nature) is a monthly series dedicated to showcasing different career opportunities in nature for pre-teens. From examining tiny bugs to exploring outer space, each month will investigate a different nature-related profession. This series is geared towards pre-teens ages 8 – 12, who are interested in discovering more about the world around them. Event runs 3:30pm – 5:30pm for ages 8 and up. Register online. Tonight the Huntington Beach Concert Band will have a Side-by-Side Concert with outstanding local high school musicians joining a program of popular marches and melodies.

Bring out your lawn chairs and blankets! The HB Concert Band Summer Series is an eleven-week series featuring a variety of performance groups and music, such as community bands, Latin bands, and swinging Big Bands. The 2015 Summer Series runs June 28 – September 6, 2015. Performances begin at 5:00pm and are free.

Concordia University Irvine Concerts on the GreenPhil Jeffrey tribute to Frank Sinatra

“Concerts on the Green” is a free series of outdoor concerts presented by Concordia University Irvine. Jeffrey and his band take audiences back to the time when Frank Sinatra—born 100 years ago this year—dominated the charts with his jazz and swing music. Bring folding chairs and blankets for seating; picnics. Grilled bratwurst, soft drinks, and snack will be available for purchase.  Event runs 5:00pm – 7:00pm.

Sunset at the Zoo Summer Concert SeriesHigh in the 80’s

This after hours concert series and tasting event features live music, art by local artisans, Zoo animals, Train & Carrousel rides. For an additional $10 donation, you can get wristband access to an exclusive beer garden tasting experience. Adults 21 and over for the beer garden, please. All funds raised help the Zoo.

Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, blanket, family and friends and enjoy the concerts. Sunsets at the Zoo are a great Sunday summertime activity for friends, family, and couples looking to picnic together, while listening to live music and enjoying all the Zoo has to offer.

Event runs 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Cost is $12.95/person ages 3 & up. FOSAZ members pay half price admission of $6.95/person.

Knowlwood Café at the Zoo restaurant sponsors a “Blues at the Zoo” concert series on the same dates as Sunsets. However, they are separate events from Sunsets. These family fun concerts take place during regular Zoo hours from 2-4 PM inside the Zoo on the front lawn and feature some of the finest Blues performers and bands in Orange County. “Blues at the Zoo” is included in the regular price of Zoo admission.

Join Aliso Viejo Community Association from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Grand Park for a live concert. For those of you who come to the park early, blankets and chairs are allowed. No roping off, no caution tape, no tarps are allowed. All tarps will be removed by AVCA due to the damage they cause to the grass. AVCA is not responsible for any unattended items.

Grab your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and dancing shoes for an evening of music in the park. Gourmet food trucks will be onsite with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee and other Irvine nonprofit organizations. Event runs 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Things to bring: chairs, blankets, sweatshirts, picnics or plan on enjoying a specialty item from one of the gourmet food trucks. Long pants, closed toed shoes and layered clothing are strongly recommended.
