Extreme Beer Fest 2018 – Boston: A Whole Another Level

Onion. Pistachio and avocado. Marshmallows. Maze. You read that last word right –the chemical found in pepper spray and all of the aforementioned food products imparted some of the many flavors found in craft beers at Beer Advocate’s Extreme Beer Festival in Boston.

Bostonians and East Coast beer aficionados braced the cold weather in an extremely long line outside the Seaport World Trade Center as they waited to enter the 15th annual event. Onlookers may think they are crazy and ridiculous, but the attendees received instant gratification once they step into the conference hall.

EBF showcases the extreme of the extreme beer and the festival highly encourages brewers to explore their identity as creators and masters of their craft. These “beer scientists” did not fall short from impressing their peers and the thousands who flocked to EBF just to taste these one-of-a-kind beers. From barrel aged in rum stouts and highly bacteria filled sours to wine-infused ales and beer-infused slushies, attendees tasted as many 2-ounce pours of the over 500 beers available from 96 breweries in a span of three hours.

People demand excellent beer, which was evident by empty beer kegs and vacant booths found half way through the session. The craft beer community sure is a thirsty crowd and a hungry one too. Lines formed for sweet Belgium waffles and mouth watering barbecue tri-tip sandwiches. As the lights began to flicker on and off – a warning that the festival’s end was near – groaning sounds filled the convention hall space. Extreme Beer Festival has come to an end and the craft beer served transported guests on a whole another level.

Traveling to Boston this June? Attend Belgian Beer Fest on June 22-23, 2018 at The Cyclorama.
